September Foodies

As the second trimester approaches maybe we can finally think less about keeping the nausea at bay and more about eating healthfully. Or maybe you found a deliciously indulgent craving-buster. Share what you’re eating/cooking throughout the month to inspire others.

Re: September Foodies

  • I make a weekly batch of pumpkin chocolate chip muffins/bread. It’s my favorite fall treat. They aren’t healthy but they sure are delicious!
  • Loading the player...
  • @miss.sally Next time you make them, can you have your husband deliver ALL the big ones to me?  :D Kidding! Too soon?
  • Probably not as delicious as @miss.sally’s pumpkin muffins, but these have been life. From the Run Fast, Eat Slow cookbook.

  • We're only in false fall right now, it's still getting up to 80 degrees midday and I'm planning on going to the pool later, but nonetheless I'm getting into my annual pumpkin spice craze. I have a recipe for pumpkin oatmeal cookies that I keep considering making but always talk myself out of it because it involves getting the stand mixer out and all that Actual Baking Stuff.
Breaking out the apple crisp recipe will be nice when fall actually hits.

I just made that recipe as lunches for the week. Omg the sauce is soooo good!

  • @miss.sally recipe please! I’m a weirdo who doesn’t like pumpkin, but my hubs loves it so maybe I will surprise him this fall.
  • @momoftoddlers I watched the video like three times just drooling haha. I have almost all of the ingredients. I know what I'm having for lunch now!
  • If you love peanut curries, two of my favorite recipes for meal prep are sweet potato peanut soup with kale https://pinchofyum.com/sweet-potato-peanut-soup and Thai peanut sweet potato noodle stir fry (also works with normal noodles, the sauce is what makes the dish) https://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/spicy-thai-peanut-chicken-sweet-potato-noodle-stir-fry/

  • My garden is producing tomatoes galore, so I’ve made caprese salad, pasta with pesto and tomatoes, and homemade salsa!
  • I’m still struggling to eat many things but I was able to stomach egg roll in a bowl and o had the leftovers for lunch 😋 it’s so easy to make and so delicious. I make quinoa on the side during pregnancy since im not low carb right now.

  • I guess it’s fall bc I’m craving all the yummy crockpot meals! Last week I made a cranberry pot roast and today I just got beef stew started!

  • YES TO CROCK POT MEALS!!  I've already made a handful of things in the crock pot the last couple of weeks, but my partner made broccoli cheddar soup over the weekend and it was soooo good.  I'm oddly craving chili although I don't know how much I'll end up eating.
  • @varimama @silverhope @Malidocious

Please share crock pot recipes. I have one and love the convenience but have very few tried and true recipes. Thanks!
  • @momoftoddlers these three are insanely easy:

    https://sweetphi.com/5-ingredient-slow-cooker-salsa-chicken-quinoa/

    https://damndelicious.net/2016/05/27/slow-cooker-garlic-parmesan-chicken-potatoes/

    https://therecipecritic.com/slow-cooker-italian-chicken-potatoes/

I also made my son one with quinoa, frozen green beans, red and yellow peppers, and chicken and he loved it. DH said it was a little bland though (he just added bbq sauce to it).

The funny thing is I’m a vegetarian ha. I have never made myself a crockpot meal. My husband eats an insane amount of food so I usually cook for him and just eat frozen meals for myself. I have a bunch of veggie crockpot meals pinned but I have never made one. I really should try it. And then I can let you know if any good.

For vegetarian crock pot goodness, this is one of my go-to recipes https://kalynskitchen.com/vegetarian-greek-lentil-casserole/

Also, the Instant Pot is the best thing that's ever been invented. It's got all the "set it and forget it" of a crock pot but only takes 40 minutes tops.

@momoftoddlers I have soooo many crock pot recipes!  It is my go-to for delicious and easy dinners!  I'll gather my favorite recipes and report back!  :)

@mauvelousone I am hesitant to use the Instant Pot.  I had one for a while but a couple of people have had small pressure explosions when they've used them and my anxiety gets riled by that sort of risk, lol!  Otherwise, I concur that a pressure cooker is amazing when you don't have the time to slow cook something.  Yummy!
  • This is my pot roast recipe! It’s seriously amazing! https://numstheword.com/crock-pot-cranberry-pot-roast/

Here is my favorite crockpot chicken recipe!
    https://laurenslatest.com/healthy-crockpot-enchilada-casserole/

This is the beef stew I’m making tonight
    https://www.gonnawantseconds.com/crockpot-beef-stew/

this is is my favorite chili recipe. Not actually for a slow cooker but I just throw all the ingredients in the crockpot and cook it for like 8hrs on low and it comes out great. Sometimes I add ground beef other times I leave it as a veggie chili!

  • @silverhope @varimama @miss.sally

Thank you so much. All of that looks delicious!

I air fried some salmon tonight and it was delicious. The crispy coating from the air fryer helped with my texture sensitivity. And it only took ten mins!
  • @miss.sally I find that the "pumpkin" in most recipes has zero to do with pumpkin as a squash and 100% is about the "spice"--ginger, nutmeg, cloves, etc. so it makes sense YH is into this bread but not "pumpkin" normally. ^_~*

@mauvelousone I can't wait to be back into curries again--one of my faves. But I can't do anything remotely spicy these days (even things I could never have con"miss.sally" cy in the past) anyway. This is supposed to be a food love thread lol so i won't complain anymore. but i'm gonna pin the curry recipes you shared for my future--thanks!
  • @mauvelousone yes to the instant pot! Sooo fast and tasty!
  • So many good ideas on here! I made a variation of the peanut noodles to eat at work this week, and baked spaghetti last night, which hit the spot!
I plan to make some pumpkin chocolate chip muffins for a co-worker's birthday Friday... and because I want them. :)

  • Made our first batch of chili for the fall season this weekend and I was over the moon! You can make it in the crockpot per the recipe or in the Instant Pot on the beans/chili setting for 20 minutes. Our secret ingredient twist on it is that we substitute garam masala for the cumin and add a dash of cinnamon to it. PS if anyone on here has IBS like my DH, you can make this Low FODMAP by subbing hominy for beans and green onions for the regular onions. Who else loves tons of Fritos, cheddar cheese and sour cream on their chili like me?

  • @creativesoul83 Oh man, I need chili ASAP!!!  I'm also suuuuuper craving banana bread, weird.
  • No recipes today but just a tip. I’m finding that cooking a big batch of something on the weekend, or preparing a meal first thing in the morning that we can reheat at dinner time, is key. Because I am soo tired by the time 5pm rolls around. Please keep the yummy suggestions coming ladies!
  • I have been SO lazy with cooking. The only thing I feel like eating myself is salad. My kids won’t eat that so its been a lot of noodles, and freezer food from Trader Joe’s.
  • @kagesstarshroom that sounds so good and makes me want ramen

  • @kagesstarshroom that sounds amazing!!
  • Ramen sounds so good right now!

i just got back to cooking this week and last and it feels so good! My friend sent me a hello fresh food box to try for free, so last week DH and I had 4 meals from them and it was very exciting and inspired some new recipes and techniques for us! Since it’s not the cheapest I’m going to wait for LO to arrive and grab a discount for the other food boxes and try those then.

The weather is cooling so I’m feeling some whole 30 soups I used to make that I LOVE!

  • ....I'm from the Philly area, and live in the south, where there are no good soft pretzels (they are always ALWAYS stale). And DH & I were watching Gr8 British Baking Show & he was talking about how it was going to make him want to bake-- and I was like "bake me cinnamon rolls!" and then that turned into "...or cinnamon sugar soft pretzels. Friends, he delivered. I dipped them in cream cheese icing--VOILA. TASTE OF HOME. There's one left at home waiting for me when I get home from office hours. ::Drool Emoji::

  • @kagesstarshroom Omg I need those pretzels in my life right nowwww!!!
  • @kagesstarshroom drooling looking at that omg
