This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. OMG I made it in here early, I always feel like I'm light years behind and get overwhelmed and don't end up posting anything. Where is everyone?

Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS, some MFI

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I triggered last night, IUI #2 is tonight! Progesterone starts tonight as well.

How are things going?: This has been a rollercoaster of a cycle so far. TLDR: I was freaking out about the timing of my IUI before my RE leaves for a conference at the end of the week but it all worked out.

My RE is away for a conference as of Friday, and when I called in my CD1 last week they told me I may or may not be able to do the IUI if my follies don't grow fast enough. Then I found out on CD4 that my progesterone was still too high to start my letrozole (which I had already started on CD3 like usual) so I didn't end up starting that until CD6. Then after it went away for 2 days, AF came back with a vengeance for 3 more days, which also put the IUI in jeopardy because my RE said he wouldn't do it if my lining wasn't ideal and I was still bleeding because what's the point. He eventually said he'd do one pro-bono for me because I was so sad about possibly having to miss this cycle and next (we leave for our honeymoon at the end of the month). Thankfully after bleeding off and on for 10 days and only getting in one BD before having to abstain before the IUI, my one left follie was measuring 16mm as of Saturday morning so we triggered last night and my RE is staying late tonight to do the IUI for me. Bless his heart.

Any questions?: How long can/does sperm live in a tube once MH gives his sample? Our last IUI was in the morning so he dropped off at 7 and it was washed and IUI done by 10:30am. This time my IUI isn't until 6pm... I assume they have a way of keeping it 'fresh' all day?

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)? Big difference between my favourite subject and my best subject, lol, but English or history. I got some of my worst grades in English, mostly because I had a bitch of a teacher who didn't agree with some of the theses I wrote and she failed me. I fought it but school admin sided with her because she was scary. I loved it though.

@kiki047 so early! I get overwhelmed in here too. That’s so sweet of your RE to do that for you guys. I have no idea how they keep it “fresh”, but I’m sure they have a way!

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)? I loved my high school Spanish teacher + class- she’s what inspired me to study Spanish in college! None of my college Spanish classes were even close to being as difficult as my high school ones.

How are things going?: I feel better today, but I think it’s because I had a crazy weekend at work and my mind is on that instead of obsessing over this RE appointment. I think it also put things into perspective for me, that there are a lot worse things than waiting for an appointment date! I’m hoping to hear something about an appointment soon, but in the meantime I’m working on using mind/body techniques so I’m in a good mental state when I do eventually get my appointment. Who knows, maybe I’ll be a magical unicorn and get KU before I get in to see the RE!

GTKY: I enjoyed math and science, but my best subject was English. My fav class though was an intro to psychology course in high school!

How are things going?: Well I got AF over the weekend. On one hand I am glad I got it so I can move forward but on the other it is soooo bad. I heard the first one after egg retrieval is rough but damn. Now I just want it to go away.

Starting BC again tonight and Hoping to get my Saline Sonogram scheduled

Any questions?: Those who have done IVF, was the first AF longer than usual? Or just heavier than usual?

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)?
I enjoyed history and english the most in grade school. But in college I loved my database management and computer programming classes

@b_1029 I’m so sorry you’re down. It never gets easier seeing a bfn and sometimes I think it’s harder to watch the trigger fade away. Take some time for yourself and hopefully you and YH can agree on good next steps.

How are things going?: they're going well! we had a busy weekend between the IL's and a small birthday party for DH that it helped keep my mind off TTC. I'm currently 11 days past trigger and I'm itching to test but I know that even if something is there, it's still possible to be the trigger since I didn't test it out. So I'm doing my best to be less crazy.... it's quickly coming to the surface though.
I've had some cramping this morning so half of my mind wants it to be a good sign but the other half is telling myself that it's just my period coming this week.

My sisters and I are hosting our SILs baby shower this weekend so I'll have just found out if I'm pregnant or not beforehand..... not the best timing and I'm honestly nervous how I'll be at the shower either way.

Any questions?: I've searched this and read many different answers, but I still figured that I'd ask you guys who have taken different triggers.... did you notice a difference of how long it stayed in your system between Pregnyl and Ovidrel? How long did each or either last for you?

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)? Math. literally always math--except calc 2. Though, I did really enjoy my nanomedicine class in college.

@kiki047 that's awesome that your RE is willing to stay late for you! FX this IUI works! There must be something they do to keep the sperm fresh. DH always had to come in 2 hours before my IUIs to go through the sperm wash. Did they say anything about YH coming in around 4pm or something to provide the sperm?

How are things going?: I had a bit of a blow up at DH on Saturday and he actually did a pretty good job about telling me to calm down since that was my whole goal this weekend to keep happy and positive for the FET. It's an issue we'll have to revisit, but we're moving past it for now.

This Office quote has been the center of some of DH's jokes lately, especially after I said it's recommend I wear socks to help keep blood flowing to the uterus instead of my cold toes:
"It's as simple as keeping the womb extremely warm for two days after sex, and then extremely cold for five months."

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)? I always enjoyed math and science (no wonder I became an engineer). Sometimes I wonder if I would have enjoyed just being a math major in college, but at the same time trying to do math and get it to work out is headache inducing. Anyway, my high school had this combo class that was physics and Advanced Algebra combined so our class was like 50 kids with 1 math teacher and 1 physics teacher. We were all a fun bunch!

What are you doing this cycle? Nothing. HSG next week, and October IUI!

How are you doing? Impatient. Waiting for AF so I can schedule that HSG for early next week. We won't get in much HIO next cycle before I leave for a business trip, which I'm trying to make peace with. IUI!!

Any questions? Anybody done both HSG and SHG? How does the pain (during and after) compare? The SHG was definitely painful during but I didn't have much pain after.

GTKY: Like my fellow engineer @mokay19 MATH! Always math, of any variety. Science was a close second, mostly because there was sometimes math in there. 😆

@jennifer_louise I haven't done a SHG, but my HSG was pretty painful. That said, I either had a complete blockage of one tube, or that tube spasmed shut, so not typical.

@mokay19 I did ovidrel this cycle, and am testing it out. 4th day of still-positive tests, FWIW.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI was cancelled, so just clomid, trigger, TI, and estrogen to help my lining

How are things going?: I'm feeling less bummed about the change in plans this cycle. I was really uncomfortable this weekend before O, which was an interesting feeling. I can't imagine people who do stims and get a bunch of follies! Ouch!

Any questions?: I don't think so.

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)? My government class was probably the most influential in my life. My teacher was really passionate and instilled a sense of responsibility for political involvement in me.

How are things going?: I honestly feel okay with whatever happens this cycle. I'm in a good place, mentally, right now and whatever happens, happens.

GTKY: what was your favorite subject in school (any grade level)? Hmmmm.... Math and Writing! (Although I don't remember nearly any of the mathematical stuff I learned but I was really good at it when I was in school!)

@hanshotfirst77 I hadn't heard that about AF post-ER but ugh that sounds awful. I hope it's nice and short (my theory was always that the heavier it is the shorter it should be because it all comes out at once. It should be noted that I have zero scientific basis for this, lol).
@mokay19 I don't actually know what kind of trigger I did because it's not a brand name here in Canada but I also was not consistent in testing it out of my system so I don't think I can help answer your question. Curious to know if there is a difference though! I wonder if some of it just has to do with the way each person's body synthesizes the drug?
@inthewoods23 I've been thinking about your upcoming FET all weekend! LOL at that Dwight quote, I like that. Hopefully by the time to come back around to whatever the argument was about, some of those initial emotions will have dissipated and maybe it won't be such a big deal anymore. Re: timing, I did question that when they called and she was like "you're right, he doesn't need to come in at 7am, he can come between 8 and 8:30 instead." Uhhh... ok.
@jennifer_louise Thank you, I also love my RE. His banter is the best, sometimes I like to think that if he didn't work 24/7 and wasn't my doctor, maybe we'd be friends. But not really, because he's too cool for me. So excited for your upcoming IUI! It really does take some of the pressure of needing to have "perfect" timing. Our timing is definitely going to be less than ideal this month but IUI!
@shogapoff I think I missed it but how come your IUI was cancelled? I KWYM about the discomfort before O, I've been getting that more and more each month and with PCOS I always end up with a ton of follies so I'm rather apprehensive about what an ER cycle might feel like.
@kpearse99 still in limbo over there? Oh goodness, what a crazy cycle. I'm glad you've made peace with it though! and I'm right there with you about timing the drop off between 1-2hrs before but they were insistent he bring it in this morning for the wash and now I'm panicking that all the precious spermies will be dead in the water - literally - by the time they get 'em all up in there.

Question for those of you who have done subQ shots... I did my trigger last night and was sure to pull back on the plunger a little to check for blood to make sure I didn't hit a vessel, and there wasn't anything so I went ahead with the shot. But there was some bleeding after which made me worried that all my HCG oozed out with the blood, and now I have a really DARK bruise in that spot so I definitely ruptured something. I should've POAS to see if the trigger made it into my system but I forgot so I'm now also freaking out that maybe my body won't absorb enough of the trigger to force my body to ovulate. Gahhhh. (ETA: I forgot my actual question) Is it a bad sign that I bruised this badly? My last bruise was just kinda yellowy and faint.

I am sure that if your RE said to bring it in this morning that they know what they are doing and everything will be fine!

I was told that I could expect a bump and bruise from the trigger after I did it, and that it would be tender and sore a few days after. I didn't get the pull the trigger, as we know, so I don't have experience on this yet... that's just what she told me to expect. She also didn't mention anything to me about not hitting a vessel...lol

@kiki047 I've never heard of pulling back on the plunger for a subq shot... but I also may be misinformed haha. I did not do that for my shots and I never bled or bruised. However, even though I let it stay in for a little bit, a few drops of medicine still came out with the needle. I still ovulated though! Furthermore, doctors use anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 iu of hCG for trigger so I would assume that any amount close to that will work!
I totally agree that everyone synthesizes it differently and the drugs themselves have different half lives. Also, I think my Pregnyl was 10,000 iu and my Ovidrel is only like 5,000 or 6,000 iu. Just typing this out is making me want to test tomorrow

@mokay19 I feel like everyone was given different instructions for their shots. My RE's office ran through it so fast, then at the end she was like "just go home and google it." But even then, I'm taking instructions from randos on youtube who may not actually have any idea what they're doing, they're just repeating what they do. *shrug* Dr Google tells me there's lots of little blood vessels in the belly area so it's normal to bruise like that. And you're right about the dosage, I'm just needlessly worrying about anything and everything.
@kpearse99 lol @ that GIF. Also, yes to all of the above, very tender and sore, last time there was a bigger bump, this time there's a bigger bruise. The tenderness only lasted about 2-3 days tho. Thankfully I can still get away with dresses at work without tights because there was no way I was going to wear pants or any kind of waistband.

@kiki047 it's possible you knicked a blood vessel a little pulling the needle out. If the bleeding stops fairly quickly there's no cause for concern.

@hanshotfirst77 Thanks. I don't actually know if it's helping my lining. They haven't brought me back in for a scan yet. I go back in a week for a lab draw. I wonder if they'll look then, or if it even matters then?

@kiki047 My lining was too thin (5 mm), so we opted not to go through with it. But I had 1 mature follie and 4 medium follies from clomid, so I definitely felt them growing! I can't imagine having too many more than that. (Or maybe I'm just a big baby!)

@kpearse99 Thanks! I haven't really noticed side-effects, through in my googling, some people do. I am having really vivid dreams lately, but I have no idea if that's from medication or just a coincidence.

@mokay19 I don’t know what I expected. AMH is on target for my age and I seem to have enough follicles / eggs left. As for DH...

I know 1% morphology can be considered low, but he misunderstood about the 2-5 days and abstained for that long instead of “cleaning the pipes” while I was finishing the MC. They aren’t concerned because I’ve gotten pregnant four times. Either way, we need two abnormal SA to do IUI, so we can probably push this one in either direction if we need to.

I did a little bit of researching, and studies show it matters least of the 3 major things shown in the SA, but I’d love some info / advice. I did start him on Vitamin D and CoQ10 this week finally.

@emeraldduchess Thanks! I know it's a few days away but I'm rooting for your beta on Friday!

@NYTino24 both my OB and my RE consider the low morph to be a yellow flag as they have no evidence that it actually affects the ability to conceive, so it sounds like they see it as a possible factor but not definitively a factor. An abnormal sperm could fertilize an egg. Morph is one of the qualities that is very hard to change with supplements, but there can be some improvement with it.

Yeah, and I feel like it could easily explain the losses we’ve had. If we have one more, I’m going to try to push for the IUI with sperm wash. DH took up using chewing tobacco pouches not long after our son was born because he wasn’t getting sleep and was falling asleep while in traffic because of working 70 hours a week. It’s a nasty wartime habit he picked up in Iraq and it absolutely can affect his sperm. I’ve been telling him this for a while and hopefully it’s the wake up call he needs to stop.
