  • @ktmaesim i'll be your friend IRL! same to anyone else :)
  • @Peachie89 have you had your posture checked? I had major back pain issues with my daughter and it turned out to be due to my posture - and not just from my hips but also my feet. This time around I've been a lot more conscious about it and have had minimal issues so far.
  • @CapricaAndrea you’ll test at home with a glucometer. I do fasting (first thing in the AM) and two hours after every meal. I count carbs. So each meal and snack has a limit. I do take meds but only an oral med so far. Last time I went on insulin. I really didn’t/don’t have a ton of additional appointments because of GD. Some extra growth scans at the end to check size. Also many docs will induce around 39 weeks for GD.

Im happy to answer more questions. I am on my second go round with GD.

  • @ashorkey I asked OB today and she said posture looked fine but since the brace she recommends is not helping she is gonna send me to physical therapy which I'm fine with if it gives me some relief.
@Stac928 I totally feel the same way about the baby being as big as a toddler!!
  • @lucylivesinwa Awwwww, your friends and your husband are all so sweet, that sounds amazing!! As for no sex, are you able to do non-internal sexual activity? There are lots of external stimulation toys and activities that could work in the meantime.

@KTZ17 and @Stac928 Thank you so much for answering me. I haven't officially heard from my midwife yet, but I can see my results online and if I'm reading them right, I passed my 2h test! (*sidenote, apparently in Canada its 2h, not 3h. One draw after fasting, then at 1h and 2h).
  • @CapricaAndrea I think the two hour is becoming more common. In fact, more recent literature suggests going straight to the two hour test.  The one hour has a ton of false positives.  Some docs skip it altogether and go for the two hour.

  • @Stac928 I knew logically that the 1h had lots of false positives, but despite only eating eggs and cheese that morning my result was so close to the point of straight diagnosis instead of additional testing that I was completely preparing myself to fail this one too. Like I literally bought different foods at the grocery store this week so I’d have high-protein/low-carb things to eat, which i guess is still beneficial anyway 😆

    Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: 12/28 / 24w, 4d

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Green

Baby is the size of a(n): Ear of corn

Upcoming Appointments: 10/4 for 28wk appt and 1-hr glucose screen; 10/11 for growth scan

How are you feeling?: I’m tired and emotional. I’m feeling super run down to be honest. With school starting, I am running from drop off, to work, to pick up to all the after-school activities including gymnastics, cub scouts, baseball (for both kids), and therapy. DH was having car trouble yesterday, so that was another issue I had to deal with. Plus tomorrow night is Back-to-School night and Friday night is a school event that I am co-chairing and have so much to do for. Add a major home renovation to this mix and I just feel like I can’t catch my breath. Rants/Raves: See above.

Questions: Has anyone been cracking open the occasional glass of wine yet? Maybe I’ll be the first, because I’m ready.

GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? Too many to list but some that stand out are chewing with your mouth open @anniemarie887, and not bringing your grocery cart in @KTZ17!

@lucylivesinwa - Having a high sex drive and not being able to do it sucks! I was on no sex, zero orgasm restriction my whole first tri starting at 6 weeks because of implantation bleeding. It was just to be on the safe side because I was already at a higher risk of miscarriage in the 1st tri. So we had to follow it.

My tips are - avoid sexy shows, movies, books and songs. If it makes you think about sex, move on. Also, keep yourself distracted with work, nesting or hobbies. I put in a lot of overtime until the 14 week mark. It helped that I was so exhausted when I got home I barely wanted to do anything but sleep. But that's just what worked for me. I can't remember if they have you off work right now, sorry if that tip ends up being invalid.
  • I guess this is where I update with how my OB consultation went?
Long story short, we're just keeping an eye on the cyst for now. She's sending me for another ultrasound and some extra bloodwork, and I go back in 2.5 weeks. If the cyst hasn't gotten any bigger, then we just put it on the back burner for now and continue the pregnancy as normal. If it has gotten bigger, she recommends doing a transfer of care away from my midwife to her, due to the increased risk of needing a c-section. Ugh...

Not only do I hope to avoid a c-section, but I really, really do not want to transfer to an OB, and today's appointment really reaffirmed that for me. There were a lot of reasons I chose a midwife in the first place and they haven't changed. The office layout/appointment experience alone was enough. I'm used to my appointments being on time, both with my current midwife and my whole previous pregnancy at a completely different practice. Today I was in a crowded waiting room for over 30 minutes past my appointment time (which was still before 9:30 am!), the desk is so close to the chairs that pregnant women talking to reception literally had to stop and move to the end of the desk for there to be enough room for other patients to walk by. Then they had my name spelled wrong on all the paperwork I need, and they couldn't get it to print properly so it was almost 80 minutes past my scheduled appointment by the time I was actually able to leave. I can't be doing that every 2 weeks once I start this contract in the city (which is approx a 1 hour commute to get to)

So fingers crossed this stupid cyst is disappearing on its own.
  • @mrszoobear Thank you for these tips!! I’ve been doing my best to keep super busy. I go back to work the week after next, which I think will really help. My husband and I are just trying to keep upbeat about it. Jokes like “I remember really enjoying sex - can’t wait to do it again one day” are keeping us going. 😁

@CapricaAndrea I’m so sorry the OB office sucked so much! I’m obviously pretty biased, but I’d recommend keeping super on top of the cyst with ultrasounds. Even if it it’s benign (which is super likely) if it grows and then twists or ruptures it can be incredibly painful. That’s what happened to me when I was 15. And if it does get bigger there is for sure a higher chance of needing a c-section. Are there any other OB offices you could check out that would maybe have a more pleasant experience? Crossing my fingers and sending good vibes your way that the cyst goes away on it’s own!
  • @lucylivesinwa I definitely don't want to compromise any care when it comes to the cyst, and my midwife chose this OB specifically, so I'll probably stick with her if I do have to be transferred. I'm just really frustrated at the idea of having to switch away from a midwife in the first place because they're so hard to get in this area and I feel like I already won a sort of lottery getting my first choice.
  • @CapricaAndrea - fingers crossed for you! Would you consider adding a doula to your care if you had to go with the ob?
@lucylivesinwa - glad you got some tips and that you and your DH are able to find some humor! Wishing you the best!
  • @jandawg I believe that even if I do transfer, i can request to have a midwife at the birth as well, sort of a joint care situation. I like the idea of doulas in general, but we had a not so great experience with ours the first time around, so there's no way I could convince my husband we should spend the money on one again.
  • @CapricaAndrea - I love the idea of keeping a dual care option. It’s so important to have someone who’s mentally on the same page as you and it sounds like you totally have that in your midwife. Good to have all the medical monitoring as well and if you do end up seeing the OB a lot, maybe a chat with her about your expectations - saw your other post and I hate that she would insinuate something you are doing is incorrect just because it wasn’t the easiest. I’m still really hopeful it go away on its own and you won’t have to deal with it though!!
  • Adding another Pet Peeve to my post from yesterday ... People who don’t “reply all” on business emails. If you drop someone off the email thread, and I add them back on when I replay, then Reply All, dipshit!

I only work part-time so need the owner copied on 99% of my emails, so he can follow-up when I’m not here.

  • @CapricaAndrea I'm sorry the experience at the OBs office was so frustrating.  That's rough.  See if  your midwife had a reason for this OB specifically.  Maybe share your concerns and she may have alternative suggestions.

@lucylivesinwa I'm not on pelvic rest this time (knock on wood) but I was last time because of placenta previa.  I couldn't do anything solo and I was kinda out of luck for the most part but we found other alternative enjoyable activities that accomplished the goal for him.  Not ideal but it was enjoyable and kept us connected.

  • Sorry if this is a repeat of info @CapricaAndrea, I’m just now starting to read the responses.

You get a glucometer and you check your blood sugars in the morning before food, then 2 hr after ever meal. If you can control via diet, no meds needed. If you can’t likely will get insulin. I think my nutritionist and high risk dr liked to see a weeks data before deciding. Typically you want your fasting to be under 95 and after meals to be under 120.  Good luck!

  • @McKBaby you won’t have me beat on the wine but you can join me! I’ll have a small glass once a week or once every two weeks.

    Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: mid-late December

Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: adding pink #3!

Baby is the size of a(n): no clue

Upcoming Appointments: I keep canceling and rescheduling due to my work schedule. I did my glucose test though and passed.

How are you feeling?: not too bad until I eat something spicy which I crave all the time and I have heart burn to the max.

Rants/Raves: I think this is my last full week of working nights which is great. I’m loving the fall weather that we are finally starting to get!

    Questions: None

GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I feel like I’ve become more tolerant about a lot of things that used to drive me batty. I guess my biggest one at the moment is when people don’t take responsibility for their own actions and put the blame on other things/people.

  • @McKBaby I’ve had wine on a few occasions.
