We did have a car seat cover which I really liked. It goes over the seat and nothing is inside so it doesn't effect the function of the car seat if in a crash. When you close the cover, there is also room in front of their face.

Not totally apparel, but apparently Graco and Chicco both make infant seats with a sleeping bag thing over it. Are they worth it or is a blanket over the seat just as good?
I’m excited to get this baby a cute bunting like this https://www.carters.com/carters-baby-girl-jackets-and-outerwear/V_18508910.html
Since its winter, I'm stocking up on long sleeve onesies. If you're worried about baby scratching their face, you might look for the ones that fold over their hands (the mittens look cute, but both my kids pulled them off in an instant). Scratching really isn't that big a deal, though. They won't actually hurt themselves and eventually learn not to do it!
For the infant carrier, we used a light blanket or my nursing cover was multi-purpose, but we only used a cover with snow or rain. Unless it was negative degrees, she would sweat with a cover in the car.
Luckily dd was a jan baby too so we should get use out of all her clothes again but I have no boy clothes yet.
@kbrown2385 thanks! For a moment I started to 2nd guess myself. I got about 70 pieces in a few different sizes, so although the total was high, cost breakdown by piece seemed reasonable to me. 🤷♀️ I'll have to look to see what thrift stores or consignment stores are near me. So far, I only know of the goodwill in my area and from what I saw the one time I went to browse, I would spend about the same at Carter's brand new (about $4 a piece) I was only briefly browsing though, so maybe I didn't look well enough. We unfortunately don't have "Once Upon A Child" or an "Other Mothers" in my area, which I heard were good, but both are hours away from me. 😕 at this point, baby's set for the first few months so I have some time to shop around more.
DS had a ton of clothes in every size but 99% were gifted. Baby Girl already has a ridiculous amount of clothes as well and I’ve only bought a pack of leggings 😂
Not crazy to get the itch to shop though! I buy ahead when things go on clearance (so this fall I’ll buy things for next summer etc)
If you are having a baby shower I would wait until after that to take tags off the things you bought just in case you end up with 50 0-3 month sleepers or something. I also buy very few things in newborn size and mostly in 0-3 month because DS was large and I am expecting this baby to be big too. So the newborn stuff fit for maybe a week and 0-3 month had a much longer life
@leprechaunlady that would be equivalent to the entire first year, if not year and a half of clothes for us. Haha
The biggest challenge at first was just how quickly she grew out of sizes!
With DS1, tho, I went gaga over all the Carters boy stuff. I absolutely loved the designs on their butts! Pumpkins, turkeys, a Teddy bear, I even had one with a crab that said Mr. Crabby Pants!
Edit: Sigh. I just went and looked at the sale. I have a feeling I'm going to blow my monthly misc budget on Carters. A dinosaur butt? Monster butt? HALLOWEEN BUTT?????
Right now I’m going crazy over receiving blankets with coordinating hats for the hospital. I want to buy them all, they are so cute.
Edit wasnt finished
@FyreFlyeRush yes, the butt designs!! 😍 I got teddy bear butt, dinosaur butt, koala butt and monster butt. I'm dying over thought of crab butt that says Mr. Crabby Pants! 😂
@kbrown2385 ya know, I haven't gotten any receiving blankets. I got a few blankets that match his nursery set. Is a receiving blanket different? You mentioned a hat, so is the receiving blanket like a swaddle?
Edit: typo
I also didn't buy any NB clothes. I figured if he was tiny, I could buy them. Otherwise, he'd grow into 0-3m pretty fast. Learned that the hard way with DD who was much smaller than DS1
I actually didn't find the receiving blankets that helpful. I felt like they were too small. I preferred some larger muslin blankets for those things and these really thick burp clothes for spit up. They were so amazingly absorbent.
I got a ton of receiving blankets from my shower (like 20) and I was so confused as to what I was supposed to use them for. They weren't big enough to swaddle DD in, and I had muslin swaddles for that purpose. But once I started cleaning up spit up, I found that the receiving blankets were so much better than my burp cloths. I had one in my purse, one on the couch, one in each car, one in the diaper bag. They were just so handy!
For sleeping we used a sleep sack rather than swaddling & found that the ones from the gro company washed best and stayed newer for longer.
This time I already bought two zip up sleepers (so much easier than snaps) and two long sleeve onesies and a pair of pants. I need to get some more but will wait until we see if we get anything from family. I will probably splurge on a lou lou and co gown and maybe a copper pearl swaddle/hat. DH is upset that we wont be able to reusue most of DDs clothes since we are having a boy this time, but I will probably reuse all her muslin blankets and swaddles.
The "real" clothes are so cute but pretty impractical for little babies.
