Re: July 2019 FET

  • @covergirl2985 They didn’t have you increase progesterone after your beta/progesterone check on Monday?? That seems strange to me. I would definitely be questioning their practices... I’m so sorry.

  • @covergirl2985 Although I obviously cannot guess at your clinics reasoning, that seems very odd to me. During my first FET I had a very low starting beta (60 14dp5dt), and they had me continue meds and beta did rise, although it then turned into a loss. That was obviously an embryo issue, but in your case your embryos might be perfectly viable but the environment might not be conducive due to low progesterone. Also, I think it is relatively normal not to test levels after FET transfer, but since you are a first time transfer and they decided to not give you the "gold standard" progesterone (e.g., PIO) I think it would have been due diligence to test.

  • Congrats on your ultrasound @wifeinraleigh28
  • @covergirl2985 you are only doing PIO once every 3 days? I’ve always been told to do them every morning. I’m surprised they haven’t been monitoring your levels after transfer.
  • I haven’t done PIO shots because I did not do a medicated transfer... instead i am doing Endometrin suppository 3x a day and started this about 6 days before the transfer. I don’t know that PIO is the gold standard as I asked my doctor is there really a difference and she said they’re the same hormone and achieve the same results.

(I did however go in 2 days post transfer to make sure my progesterone level was good)

  • My protocol just for comparison - PIO every other day in the am, endometrin suppository 3x day, 4 estrogen patches every other day and an estrogen pill I take vaginally nightly, and aspirin daily.

I feel like it’s so hard to know to what the “right” or best strategy is because all clinics seem to have their own protocols.
  • edited August 2019
Wow, seems like there is a lot of variation between clinics. But I would also think that individual bodies respond differently too. I take estradiol pills 3x/day and a PIO shot every night. Been that way for all my transfers. I'm pretty sure that's my clinic's standard. @covergirl2985 I have everything crossed for you that this could turn around, but if it doesn't, I guess you'll be consulting with your doctor about how to make sure your progesterone is at a good level next time. I'm so sorry you're going through this. My last transfer was a straight BFN which was hard but this limbo stage you're in sounds so much harder. Hugs to you!

Edited because I just wanted to add that although it sucks, don't worry too much about losing your "best" embryos. In my own personal experience and in my experience meeting other ladies on these boards, the quality grading doesn't even seem to matter that much in terms of transfer outcome. I've seen it happen so many times where the embryos graded the lowest are the ones that result in a take home baby.

  • Just had Beta 2...results later today. I drove 90 mins to my clinic so I could have results today as opposed to when I went to my GYN office on Monday and they had a 24 hr turnaround.
I get to my clinic and they say, “we have you down for tomorrow, we already sent labs today so we would t have your results til Saturday if we draw today.” This is after the nurse emailed me my lab slip with 8/15 date.
I’m so freaking fed up with this crap ER office. You’d think for paying over $15k for this, we should be getting white glove treatment and instead I’m basically trash.
I told them that if they don’t take my labs and get me results today, that I’m going to seek legal counsel. That changed their story.
I’m really considering changing offices for my next FET. But I don’t want to have to go thru the whole consult etc again.
We told them we wanted to speak to someone re our concerns and they said we’d have to make an appt for next week.
To say I’m stressed and frustrated is an understatement.
Anyone have clinics in Atlanta GA, please let me know.

  • @covergirl2985 Good for you for standing up for yourself! That can be really hard to do. Fingers crossed for beta today, really hope that things turn around.

It is interesting to see the variation in protocols. My doctor only does PIO for medicated FET cycles (in addition to 3x estrogen pills and a patch every 3 days), but based on what others are doing it seems that suppositories and PIO are used interchangeably. PIO might not be the gold standard my clinic has led me to believe it is.

I went in this morning for b/w and ultrasound. It was great to see the yolk sac and the gestational sac. My beta hcg #3 is at 6,000. I’ll be going away on holiday next week so my next scan will probably be Monday Aug 26!

  • @covergirl2985 I’m so sorry. I do want to say that if you want to switch clinics don’t let dealing with another initial consult stop you. I hated my experience at my first clinic and we also had a negative outcome. At first I felt like it was too overwhelming to switch clinics and feel like I was starting over again but I can tell you it was the best experience ever for me. I ended up at CCRM in Houston, I see they have a location in Atlanta, I’d highly recommend them: https://www.ccrmivf.com/atlanta/

  • Hi fellow Houstonian! @ladyp0tter Aspire first. Who did you use??
  • I just had my 8 week check up, little boy is measuring on track with a heartbeat at 169. I can’t believe we graduated from our IF clinic! Next appointment will be on the 27th with my OBGYN.
  • @nancinator so glad to hear everything is continuing to progress well.
@akak23 so glad to hear everything is going well and that you are graduating from your clinic! That's so exciting!

My next appointment is Tuesday for a U/S checkup. I will be 8w3d. I wont be graduating from my clinic as I live abroad and finding English speaking doctors can be somewhat difficult. We move home in about 2 months so I will be about 17 weeks along. My clinic has been so wonderful and has agreed to let me continue with my OB and prenatal care there.
  • Thank you @ACAC25! Good luck at your appointment on Tuesday ☺️
  • Glad to hear that everyone is doing well! @ACAC25 my next appointment is Tuesday too. I'll be 7+3 so exactly a week behind you. They wanted me to wait an extra week before coming back but they didn't have ANY appointments that week that worked in both mine and hubby's schedules. This will be my last appointment before graduating to my OB. So excited and hoping everything is still looking good in there with our little guy!

    How is everyone else doing?

  • @wifeinraleigh28 thats great! Fx for great scans tomorrow. I'm not going to lie I'm feeling super anxious for mine. My symptoms seem to come and go so up and down. Yesterday I was nauseous and threw up and exhausted and today I mostly feel fine. I've not slept well the last 2 nights, i think its anxiety. I keep going from panicking about this scan to thinking about baby showers and how the hell I'm going to breastfeed 3 babies. Such back and forth emotions.

@ladyp0tter that's such great news. FX for sticky embryos!

  • Thanks! Good luck on your ultrasound this morning!
  • Did anyone tell their family and friends yet?
Anyone exercising and having sex? I asked the doctor today if I can have sex and exercise she said yes but no hot yoga. I’m nervous about both that will make me spot or bleed.
  • @italianmommy8, we've told our close family and friends just because they already know we've been doing this and trying for a while. I am too scared to exercise or have sex.  For sex my clinic says none until 'fetal heart tones seen on ultrasound' which I'm thinking we may or may not see Friday at my 6+1 ultrasound? Even when we get the ok I am so scared to try!
