Baby is the size of a(n): turnip

Upcoming Appointments: Aug 30th, anatomy scan Sept. 17th

How are you feeling?: well, I spent the whole weekend throwing up anything and everything I ate, so that was new. I also developed heartburn for the first time this weekend. And there was the headaches. So yea, it was rough, but overall I'm feeling OK.

Rants/Raves: MH and I got baby's dresser delivered and built it this weekend. First item in the nursery. It made me so happy to put away the little bit of clothes I've already bought. Makes it feel more real somehow. Now just waiting on the bookcase and crib and I'm just so excited to see the nursery come together.

Questions: my midwife had suggested I take baby aspirin daily to help reduce my risk of preeclampsia. She said the OB didn't feel strongly either way so it was up to me. This was at my last appt a few weeks ago and since the OB didn't seem to think I absolutely needed to, I opted not to, because otherwise pregnant women aren't supposed to take NSAIDS. But after doing a little research on the daily baby aspirin thing, seeing that I have multiple moderate risk factors (first pregnancy, AMA, obese) I'm thinking maybe I should? The midwife suggested it but ultimately left it up to me. What do you think? Do any of you take baby aspirin daily?

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do? Set all the clocks in the house 2 hours behind. Rearrange the furniture. Set the language on the TV to Spanish.

  • @peppyj9 - that sounds like a rough weekend! I hope you are feeling better.  I have no advice about the baby aspirin thing.   Hopefully someone else does.

Baby is the size of a(n): pear

Upcoming Appointments: Midwife appt tomorrow, anatomy scan Sept 9th

How are you feeling?:  The second tri hasn't been too bad for me.  I am tired, but otherwise doing well.  School starts in two weeks, so I am hoping being back on schedule helps us all get through the next 5 months.

Rants/Raves: I think I finally felt baby move this weekend!  Just one evening though.   I felt my last so much earlier, it's been hard to not freak out about not feeling this one.  I assume I have an anterior placenta.   But I cannot wait to feel baby on the regular.

Questions:  Has anyone bought a baby book yet?  Is there one you particularly like?  I have a different one for each kid, and am running out of options at my regular stores.

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do?   Hide their coffee/tea.

How are you feeling?: ok. yesterday I was crazy nauseous and I’m still super tired.

Rants/Raves: Had an ok weekend. We went to a living museum saturday. DS had a blast. It was honeybee day so they had all kinds of crafts from the kids and honey tastings from a local meadery. We grow veggies and things so he has learned about helping bees already, so he loved it. We were there for about 3 hours and I proceeded
to pass out once we got home. The exhaustion is  so real still. I did manage to catch up on folding all of our clothes yesterday though. So kind of a win.

    Questions: nope

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do? Hide the remotes, put dead batteries in the smoke alarms so they start beeping at random
hours of the night, leave just a sip of all the beverages in the fridge.
  • @MollySm thanks! I'm feeling better this morning, but it's still early. We'll see how the day goes. As for your question, I was gifted this baby book recently and I like it! Since it's my first, I have nothing to compared it to, but it's cute and somewhat customizable if you don't celebrate certain holidays.

  • @peppyj9 I take baby aspirin daily to help prevent preeclampsia. I take magnesium glycinate along for the same reason since I am higher risk with twins. Hope you’re feeling better from the weekend!

@MollySm exciting you finally felt movement! I had an anterior with ds and didn’t feel anything until 21 weeks. Hopefully that’s just the case for you.
  • @peppyj9, I'm on baby aspirin and lobetalol to control my white coat syndrome and lower my risk for preeclampsia. Supposedly, starting it early has a BIG impact on not developing the really, really bad OMG we have to get the baby out NOW pre-eclampsia.

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Blue

Baby is the size of a(n): Clutch wallet

Upcoming Appointments: OB Aug 26, MFM Anatomy Scan 8/30

How are you feeling?: I'm tired. I have almost no energy. And, I've lost almost all patience. I can't wait for school to start back up next week so DS1 will be worn out instead of making me insane.

Rants/Raves: I'm back to is it baby or isn't it. Annoying and not at all reassuring. I think this kid is just content to hang out in my back and I'm never really going to feel him move. After two active and playful babies, this one is being super difficult. And I swear I still just look like I've gained 40lbs of belly weight. It's hard not to get discouraged.

Questions:  I had an anterior placenta with DS1 and I was able to feel him by this point. CONSTANTLY. Anyone have trouble with a posterior placenta baby and not being able to feel them?

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do?  Disconnect their cable/fios at the modem but not in a way you can see it. I'm skilled like that.
  • @kbrown2385 thanks! I'm going to start taking it. The benefits seem to outweigh any risks, and, better safe than sorry. I'm kinda wishing I had started it earlier now lol. Sounds like you had a fun, albeit exhausting, weekend! And folded laundry is definitely a win!
  • @FyreFlyeRush yea, I read its most beneficial if you start between 12-16 weeks and of course I'm now at 17weeks. I'm hoping it will still be beneficial enough. I'm kind of kicking myself for not looking into it sooner when my midwife suggested it, but, life. I'm sorry you're not having more movement from this baby and getting that reassurance. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise though and it's a sign he'll be one of those super calm babies that never cries and sleeps through the night. 😉

Baby is the size of a(n): Artichoke

Upcoming Appointments: 9/4 Anatomy scan, 9/30 OB, 10/30 OB

How are you feeling?: HOT omg I never get hot but now like I get miserable if it's hot and humid out. IT's so bad. And it takes FOREVER to cool off. I've never wished summer to end and now I just want slightly cooler temps so that it's bearable to be outside again.

Rants/Raves: Mom finally read up that it was OK for her to throw a baby shower for me (I'm an only so I only have extended family to rely on otherwise). I think her and my MIL are co-hosting. So yay I get my OCt baby shower. Earlier my mom was all like, you can't make that kind of request... I'm sorry if I have to travel 3hrs to my own baby shower, I would rather do it before the holidays and the snow hit, mother. I feel like that's a reasonable request.

Questions: Since my OB hasn't gotten back to me yet, birthing classes? When did you take them? Were they helpful? Did you tour the facility??

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do? I would change all of their electronics languages to something non-english and turn off all their easy water shut offs. LOL

@FyreFlyeRush I feel like I'm still guessing too. I'm hoping at the anatomy scan I can feel some wiggles and attribute them to the movements on the screen. But I also have an anterior placenta so they said it maybe until 21 weeks until I feel her consistently. So who knows.

  • @stashattack we did birthing classes around 30 weeks. We did it once a week in the evening and it included a tour of labor and delivery. It was 4 or 6 sessions, I can’t remember exactly.
  • Ugh, I did not keep up with this thread last week, but I am determined to this week.

@peppyj9 - I took baby aspirin daily for 3 months TTC and then the first 3 months of pregnancy. My doctor said it wasn't really risky or anything, and it helped me feel better that I was "doing something" about my miscarriage.

@MollySm - That first feeling of flutters is so amazing!

@kbrown2385 - That awesome that they are teaching kids about bees so early. Most people don't know how important they are!

Baby is the size of a(n): sweet potato

Upcoming Appointments: 2 weeks from tomorrow!

How are you feeling?: finally feeling like 2nd tri! Nausea is so slight when it comes, I usually just take a mint to combat it. Still battling some fatigue, but nesting is starting to take over.

Rants/Raves: DH and FIL got most of the roof put on the addition this weekend! Next weekend they will make the cut into our existing roof, finish the framework, put up the rest of the sheets of plywood, and then shingle. It's so crazy to see everything coming up and our dreams coming true.
I'm starting to make headway in changing the guest room into a room for DD. I just posted all the furniture for sale, and have a new mattress in my Amazon cart for DD. I can't wait to decorate it!

Questions: Should I get a tall dresser for DD or a short long one? What do your kids have in their rooms?

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do?  spread legos in front of their doorways (or is that not "mild" enough?)
  • @FyreFlyeRush - Not quite the same boat, but with both DD and this one, I started feeling them around 17 weeks. I've always heard you feel the 2nd one earlier, but that wasn't the case with me. I had an anterior placenta with DD, but I don't know what I have with this one.

@stashattack - I feel like I touched on this topic with you last time, but I took my birthing class around 30ish weeks last time, and pretty much everyone else in the room was with in a few weeks of that. We did have one lady that was 38 weeks though, lol. This time I'm doing it at 36 weeks because that's the only weekend that worked for us 🤷

Upcoming Appointments: Friday for anatomy scan

How are you feeling?: pretty good (same gripes as before: tired, mild headaches, sore feet, poor sleep). A bit nervous about the upcoming scan.

Rant: My husband started grad school a couple weeks ago and I hardly ever see him anymore. His school is just 23 miles away, but the commute can take up to 2 hours if traffic is bad. This also means I'm the sole wage earner in the family and there's no option of being a SAHM. I've never imagined myself as a SAHM anyway, but this is our first kid, i don't know how I'll feel when I go back to work but I'll need to go back to work regardless. I'm also thinking MH won't make many appts going forward (I had to reschedule the upcoming scan twice to accommodate his schedule). I hope that we work out a better school/life balance going forward, because I've been feeling alone the past couple weeks.

Rave: Baby kicks! Not constant, but definitely there (I've felt them 2 out of the last 4 days). Funny timing because my best friend just gave me a maternity tshirt last weekend that says "You're Kicking Me Smalls" lol

Questions: I'm a bit overwhelmed by everything I need to get for baby. Anyone have a good list of the essentials? I'm thinking after the anatomy scan I'm going to start getting things together, but I hate clutter and I can't imagine one tiny baby NEEDS all the stuff on these registry checklists, but I could be wrong.

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do?  Turn off the water heater 😈

@peppyj9, yay for starting on the nursery! It will feel so great when it's all set up! I'm in this weird position of being told not to buy baby things because my pregnancy has been iffy, yet feeling behind because we don't have anything yet.

@FyreFlyeRush, I feel you on the lack of patience! I swear, lately I'm either missing my husband or he's driving me crazy, with very little in between. 😂

@MollySm, What baby book have you liked the best so far? FTM here, so I don't have a good recommendation, but I'm thinking about getting one.

@kbrown2385, I'll be sending positive vibes for your amnio on Friday. Does it take long for those results to get back?
  • @noranorabobora results can take up to two weeks. I’ll be making myself crazy on google during that time, im sure.
I took those registry lists with a grain of salt. We pretty much had the basics for ds; a safe place to sleep in our room, a crib for his room, some clothes (you’ll get a ton from your baby shower, if you’re having one. People like buying baby clothes.) diapers, a car seat/stroller and a way to feed them whether it’s breast feeding or formula. Start with that and go from there. All the extra is fluff. You certainly don’t need a wipe warmer or a spatula to put on diaper rash cream or even a diaper pail.
  • @peppyj9 I'm late to the party this week, and you've already gotten great advice, but if it makes you feel better- I also started taking baby aspirin around 13 weeks. I'm also actually on Lovenox (a blood thinner) and cleared the baby aspirin with my hematologist before starting if that gives you any comfort.

Baby is the size of a(n): hershey bar

Upcoming Appointments: not until 9/10 for anatomy scan

How are you feeling?: I think I might have overdid it this weekend in the ocean with my 7 year old niece, so i'm exhausted, achy, and woke up feeling lightheaded with a headache. I guess I need to take it easy

Rants/Raves: I'm in the no movement camp. I THOUGHT I felt something this weekend, but passed gas soon after so I don't think I got it right. I'm kind of upset/anxious about it since I figured with twins I'd feel movement by now. I brought it up to the US tech last week at my appointment and she said "it's way too early. even with twins. you're a FTM, don't expect anything until 18-22 weeks." Seems late based on others experiences on this board, but trying to stay positive!

Questions: Has anyone gotten nursery items from Ashley Homestore? We bought our living room/dining room furniture there, and happened to have a great experience. I was browsing their nursery selection online, and they seem to have great basics, even if a little pricey.

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do? What an interesting question!! I might saran wrap the entrances to all of their doors and closets. Seems like a fun prank .
  • @noranorabobora - After the anatomy scan, YH doesn't really need to be there anyway. Those checks get really routine and boring. As for buying essentials for baby, there are some really great checklists on Pinterest of what necessary and what's not. Also, if you find you don't have something you need, it's not really a big deal to order it on Amazon, or send YH to go pick it up. For example, all those lists say you don't need a diaper pail, but I found it a hassle to take it to the kitchen trash and then it started smelling, so we ordered one and had it there within two days. NBD.

@amb0924 - I didn't really start feeling anything with this baby until around 17 weeks, and I'm a STM. So I think you are perfectly fine to not be feeling anything yet. Most people that say they feel things, still have a hard time distinguishing between baby and gas.
  • Hi all, I'm relatively new here (introduced myself on the introductions board a few days ago, and figured I'd jump in here since I'm due the end of January.  Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Baby is the size of a(n): turnip

Upcoming Appointments: midwife appt Sept 4; anatomy scan Sept 9!

How are you feeling?: It was a busy weekend and so my hips/back can feel the fact that I've been on my feet a lot.  Otherwise, I'm feeling a lot less tired so that's nice!

Rants/Raves: My next 2 days of work are going to be intense.  I'm going in late today because I'll likely be in a meeting until 10PM/11PM this evening!  Then I need to be back tomorrow morning at 7AM for an all-day meeting during which I'll need to be mentally engaged the whole time.  I'm exhausted just thinking about it, and strategically planning my caffeine for the day.  However, I do love my job and these days are few and far between, so I can't complain too much.  Plus, these meetings tend to be very meaningful and interesting, so it's worth it!

Questions: Has anyone thought about/started baby registries yet?  If so, where are you making them?  This LO is my 3rd, so I likely won't have a baby shower, but we do actually need a fair amount of baby gear since we moved twice since DD was born and got rid of a lot of it during the moves.  I'm mostly interested in the completion discounts, freebies, and having them available if family/friends want to get me Christmas presents from them  Any ideas about the best registries for those considerations?

GTKY: If you were a burglar, and instead of stealing when you break in, you did things to mildly inconvenience your victims. What would you do?

@peppyj9 I had preeclampsia with DS, so I'm taking baby aspirin this PG since I'm at increased risk due to history.  Back when I had DD, it wasn't yet recommended for people in my situation and I didn't have PreE with her, so I was a little unsure about taking it this time.  However, my midwives strongly recommended it, so I decided to read the studies and guidelines to see how strong the data was (I'm a scientist in biology, so I have a somewhat good ability to evaluate clinical data).  My conclusion is that baby aspirin does substantially decrease risk of PreE, and particularly decreases the risk of preterm PreE with poor outcomes.  Side effects/adverse effects were pretty much non-existent and seem to be much less severe/common than previous studies with higher doses of aspirin, so there appears to be very little risk in taking it.  Based on this, I felt comfortable starting baby aspirin between 12-13 weeks.  As PP mentioned, data shows that it is most effective if you start it early (recommended between 12 and 16 weeks), so you might want to consider starting soon if you're going to take it.

@kbrown2385 best wishes for your amnio

@stashattack I think birthing classes are generally recommended in early/mid-third tri so that the information is fresh.  It probably depends on if you're taking something that is more intensive and requires study, though (eg, hypnobirthing).  I took a generic, 1 day "unmedicated birth comfort techniques" for both kiddos and found them not terribly helpful.  From the first one, I pretty much learned deep, slow breathing techniques (which actually did help with both my labors) and with my DD, things progressed so fast, there wasn't really much time to think about comfort measures at all.

  • @marebear15, @cats_in_a_window thanks for your input on birthing classes.

@cats_in_a_window I have started my registry on buy buy baby.

@noranorabobora Yeah I'm trying really hard to keep my registry super small right now. I'm trying to keep it to essentials and even keeping toys (minus a really cute tummy time thingy) off the regsitry cuz I'm trusting my friends/family's judgment on being able to buy toys if they so wish. As well as clothes. I don't feel the need to register those either because I feel like if we are going to get those I'll love them anyway and some specific ones I want I'll probably pick up myself (fandom specific onsies).

  • @stashattack - I think hospital tours are totally worthwhile.  This is my 4th delivery, and will be my 4th hospital.  Every one looks a little different and does things a little differently, so I like to know what to expect.   As for birthing classes, H and I took the free one when I was pregnant with our first, and it was useful.   A lot of the info was repeat for me because I had read up, but it was great for H to learn a little more about what was going to happen.  They also spent a lot of time showing the partners how to massage you, where to push, how to stand to help you be comfortable, etc.   So that was both enjoyable and useful when I was in labor.

  • @peppyj9 I also take a low dose aspirin.  I'm high risk for blood pressure,  age,  and previous uterine surgery (plus a first pregnancy). It helps me with blood flow.
  • @marebear15, I sometimes wonder if it's PGAL brain talking me out of what is probably movement. In the last couple of days, it's picked up to where it's like, OK... THAT was baby, then my brain goes No. It's probably gas. And I don't feel anything for a while, so PGAL Brain says I told you it was gas... Even though the location is highly unlikely.
  • @peppyj9 hopefully you're feeling better after the rough weekend! It's so great getting to buy nursery furniture.

@MollySm hiding the coffee is just plain mean!

@kbrown2385 that living museum sounds like a lot of fun! Very cool that they were teaching all about need. They're so important.

@stashattack I really liked the hospital tour, but didn't think the classes were as great. Mainly because I read so much, that none of it was new. The one class I liked was the newborn care class.

@marebear15 it's amazing how much progress your making and so quickly! Can't wait until it's done and we get to see the finished addition! For a dresser, we decided it was important for her to be able to access her clothes to get dressed in the morning. So we got something she could access.

@noranorabobora let me see if I can find the list we used to register. It was very straightforward and streamlined.

@stashattack yay for your Oct baby shower! I'm glad things worked out!

@marebear15 that's so exciting your addition is coming together nicely! For the nursery, which will continue to be DS's room as he gets older, I chose the long,  shorter dresser so it's easier for him to access in his younger years. Plus, I like the extra space on top for putting things on.

@noranorabobora that shirt is hilarious! Also, it sounds like you've got some big transitions with YH starting grad school and a new baby on the way all at once! I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end once he graduates 😊

@amb0924 thanks! I bought some low dose aspirin yesterday and started taking it so I'm hoping it makes a difference. I also haven't felt any movement yet and I'm getting so anxious about it! Also, I have dining furniture from Ashley and love it so I'm sure their nursery stuff is great too. For my nursery, I went with storkcraft furniture from target (they also sell it at Ashley but for a bit more) and it's great quality for the price!

@cats_in_a_window hi and welcome! And thanks for your input! I started the baby aspirin yesterday at 17 weeks so I'm hoping I'm not too outside of the optimal window to reap the benefits! Also, I registered everywhere that gave me a completion welcome box. I got so many free diapers, bottles, pacifiers, a couple onesies, a swaddle, and various other samples, it was worth it. And then I was able to add all my registries on babylist (which lets you add from anywhere online) and babylist gave me a free box too! ($5 shipping)

@MrsJessS welcome back! Glad you had a nice vacation! SO excited for you that you may get to go home while YH is deployed!

@persnickity glad your rash is gone! Weird that they don't know what virus. At least it apparently wasn't a horrible virus. Happy birthday to your DD! 🎉
