S+TM Mom Check in August

Starting this thread earlier this month! :)

General discussion - here are some questions that might prompt some discussion.

How's it going?

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around?

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around?

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go?

  • How's it going? I have my first OB appointment on Monday and am so nervous that something will be wrong with the baby or that there won’t be a baby at all and they’ll say I have a uterine tumor, or something. I guess you could say I’m an emotional wreck.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around? It never occurred to me. With my last pregnancy I remember vomiting more, but feeling less sick overall if that makes sense.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around? I have no idea when I felt movement with either of my children! I remember with my first I would sometimes feel this rhythmic pulsing and had no idea what it was until it happened at the OB and she told me it was hiccups.

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go? DD1 will be starting a 3 year old preschool class. Like @leksil I’m nervous because she’s not 100% potty trained. DD1 is so outgoing but seems to have trouble making friends at playgrounds etc. so as a result of that she is starting to become self conscious and is really nervous about school. She also has developed some eczema on her face and keeps asking me what the kids at school will say about her “bumps”. And that in turn, seems to be causing her to have more potty accidents already. I hope I’m making the right decision in enrolling her.

@leksiL I had a VBAC with my second and honestly it wasn’t a big deal. Good call on trying to avoid being induced though!
  • @doodleoodle - congrats on your vbac! My OB would not allow it so I found a new provider who is basically treating me like a FTM and said they have a 85% success rate so I'm hoping it isn't a big deal for me either. I think it is all about finding a good doctor. I belong to some online vbac groups that are overall making me feel nervous about trusting any provider ever.

I guess I won't be the only one worried about potty training!

I just looked back at my old BMB and some moms didn't feel movement until like week 20 so maybe I was being optimistic thinking this month. My girlfriend is a month ahead of me and has been feeling them for a week so I thought maybe soon.

@jvk2012 - It's nice that your provider has mixed groups of kids. DD loves babies too but is always in her own age group. Her BFF

  • @leksiL I am a FTM and 15 weeks along. I am fairly sure, though not positive, that I felt my baby moving on Monday (which was 14+6). A friend of mine felt definite movement with her first at 16 weeks. I think the people who don't feel anything until 20 weeks tend to be larger and/or less aware of what their bodies are supposed to feel like.
  • How's it going? I wish I felt better. Other than that, ok.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around? I didn’t with any of my other pregnancies. I should have! I’m forever asking my husband “did I _____ when I was pregnant with ___?” A journal would be helpful, ha.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around? 1st child - either 17 or 19 weeks 2nd child - 14 weeks. So definitely earlier.

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go? Oldest is starting kindergarten (😩) youngest is starting preschool. They have matching monogrammed shirts for their first day. Mainly the pictures, ha. I’m a wreck over kindergarten. He’s going to be riding the bus. 😭

  • @mandk1233 meh. I disagree that body size has anything to do with it for feeling internal movement. Outside, sure.

@AugustGlass - that is so exciting to think we could feel them earlier this time. I'm sorry you are such a mess about Kindergarten. My neice just finished K and I was surprised about the expectations for kids these days. Reading, etc., very exciting :) The monogrammed matching shirts sound adorable.

  • @leksil finding an OB supportive of a VBAC can definitely be tricky. I’m glad you were able find one! I wasn’t so lucky and basically had to be a jerk about it until they relented. I think it’s all about advocating for yourself. I did also insist on having a crash cart in the room so I’m sure that helped.

@AugustGlass how excited is your son to ride the bus?! I feel like that’s every little kid’s dream.
  • @leksiL thanks! Yeah, it’s intense. He did 4 morning a week 4K last year and by the end of the year they were writing, knew every letter sound, etc. It’s a lot! Thankfully he loves it.

@doodleoodle he is so excited! He talks about it all the time. I wish I was as excited, ha.

  • How's it going? Eh. Apparently my husband has some weird blood mutation called E and I was sensitized to it with my last pregnancy, unbeknownst to anyone. This time there’s a 50% chance this girl has it, and if she’s does, she’s at risk for rhesus disease- aka my blood attacks her blood and makes her anemic. The big risk is a stillbirth- not common, but a risk. If she does have it, once she’s born, she’s fine, so it’s not a lifelong issue. Just a pregnancy issue. I have a consult with an MFM later this month being set up to do an amnio to see if she got this mutation. Kind of scary stuff.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around? No. I’m never into that stuff.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around? 17 weeks last time! I’m 13 1/2 weeks now so hoping to feel something in the next 3 weeks

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go? Henry Just turned 10 months old so he just started day care and he loves it!
  • @kiwi2628 that is scary stuff. I’ll be thinking of you. Please keep us updated.

@therealbitts is it a steroid cream? We can’t use those on DD1 because while they do help the spots go away, once treatment is stopped they come back worse than before. The sunlight actually seems to help. So, we’ve been spending a lot of time playing outside and I’ve been moisturizing her skin with organic argan oil and it has helped reduce and eliminate most of it, but some of it is stubborn.

@craftywitch Thank you for the potty trainings encouragement. It gives me hope that preschool has helped you’re LO with it!
  • @kiwi2628 that is scary! Hoping baby girl doesn’t have the mutation!
  • @kiwi2628 - I have my fingers crossed for your baby too! That sounds very scary.

Thank you @craftywitch for the potty training encouragement - hopefully being with the older kids is just what she needs!

@AugustGlass one of my favorite things about parenthood is teaching things so I am really excited to work on it! She is an old hand at colors, but struggles with letters and sometimes skips numbers when counting. I've got to remember not to push her too hard because my parents did that with me and it definitely caused resentment and rebellion.

@doodleoodle crash cart? why did that make them feel better? it sounds scary to me.

  • @leksiL so that it is there in case something does go wrong.
  • How's it going? I’m still super nauseated and exhausted. I’ve gone back to work (middle school teacher), and now I’m so sore every day.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around? I didn’t keep a journal. I’m not this time either.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around? I was probably 17-18 weeks last time. I haven’t felt anything yet.

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go? My daughter started Pre-K on Wednesday. We took a first day of school photo. She has done great so far. She adapts easily.
  • General discussion - here are some questions that might prompt some discussion.

How's it going? Things are going great at the moment. Minus some random nauseousness and gagging in the mornings I am feeling really great. Really looking to start getting our "catch all needs to be turned into a nursery" getting cleaned out in the next couple weeks so I can stop stressing about that.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around? I did not get a pregnancy journal the first time around, so I don't plan to this time. Things from what I remember seem pretty much the same. I am having some of the same food aversions as the last go around as well.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around? I remember feeling movement at about 17-18 weeks last time. I have felt a few twinges here and there and thought maybe it could be the baby, but I highly doubt it is. I can't wait to start feeling it move though!

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go? My daughter is starting next month and will be entering 1st grade. I am taking the week before school off so we can have a jam packed week of fun activities. Normally we camp majority of the summer but since my husband has not been feeling well, this summer has just been a bust as far as getting out and having adventures. I have a chalkboard thing I will use, but half the time my daughter won't hold the sign and hates first day of school pictures, so it will be hit or miss if it will be used. My daughter did AMAZING transitioning into Kindergarten, and so I have a feeling it will be the same going into 1st grade. My mom works at the school as well, so most people know my daughter so she is super comfortable and confident there so I am really hoping all will go smoothly.
  • How's it going? Good! Just make sure to catch me before 4 pm, cause after that, I'm in bed.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around?
With my 1st. Not 2nd or this one. Not really sure why I even did it with my first tbh. No one wants to read some of the nonsense I wrote in there.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around?
It has been WAY earlier this time.

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go?
My boys are going into 1st and 3rd. I take pictures at our house before we leave. No props.
  • How's it going?  So far, so good! I'm still crashing hard every afternoon but now I feel more productive the rest of the day!

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around? No and no. I am really not into things like that personally. I hate clutter and it would be just one more thing I'd have to find a home for.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around? I have a late month due date so I'm not there yet.(I'm 12w now) I'm sure I'll feel them soon. With #2 it was around 16 weeks.

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go? #1 starts Kindergarten this year! She is so excited! We'll do the obligatory 1st day of school pictures and I'll label all her stuff with my cricut, but I think that's about it. My daughter is a social butterfly and never met a stranger, so I'm sure she will transition just fine.

  • Things are pretty good. I’m just SO tired.

Never thought to do a pregnancy journal but it would be interesting to look back and compare since my brain is mush. Things are fairly similar. I’ve been slightly less sick each pregnancy and so far I haven’t thrown up this time.

First time I didn’t feel anything until 18/19 weeks. Second time was around 16 weeks and I’m pretty sure I felt baby #3 a few times this past week.

DS is starting 3 year old preschool sept 9. I’m super nervous to see how he does since He is a bit of a piece of work these days. I think once he gets use to it he is going to love having friends to play with and enjoy learning.  I bought a little chalk board from target.
  • I am Starting to freak out a bit alright a lot about the logistics and general chaos of having 3 children 🙈 my boys will be a little over 3 and 20ish months when the new one comes. I am a sahm and am feeling so overwhelmed just thinking about it. We live very close to both of our families so I know they will help but still. 😬
  • @clee5711 I think that’s a normal feeling. I have three boys and was worried about the dynamic when I was pregnant with my third. Some might feel differently, but I did not feel like going from 2 to 3 kids was that difficult (except for the laundry; that sucks). The transition from 1 to 2 kids was actually tougher for me.
  • @therealbitts I am stressing about going from 1 to 2 but didn't want to say anything because going to 3 seemed even more overwhelming!

  • @leksiL I think it’s totally normal to stress no matter if it’s your first or fourth! Sorry if I stressed you more about my comment. When I went from 1 to 2, my oldest was right at 2 and he was a handful. So the age range made it hard to adjust at first, but that could’ve just been me. Also, I sorta mourned not having quiet rest time with my second newborn because I was constantly chasing after my first. I missed being able to just sit on the couch and snuggle for hours. When I had my third, I knew I had to be on my game no matter what, and took my newborn snuggles when and where I could get them ☺️

@therealbitts I agree 1-2 was a huge game changer and way harder than I anticipated! My oldest was about 20 months when I had my first so I completely agree that the close age range making it harder. I definitely missed being able to just snuggle a baby the second time around.

@leksiL my kids meeting for the first time at the hospital was my all time favorite moment. Every cute sibling moment makes the craziness so worth it
  • @therealbitts Well I won't say nobody warned me! ;) I feel like everyone keeps telling me I'm about to get the rug swept out going from 1 to 2, but I just don't believe it! Then again, I think toddlerhood is the hardest most awful thing ever, and I'm looking forward to having a screaming potato again (and dumping toddler with Dada more).
  • @craftywitch toddlerhood is soooo hard. I’m also looking forward to a mushy baby
  • @therealbitts - I could see how having a toddler around could make the newborn snuggles harder. My toddler will be at school during the day on weekdays so it will be a little easier. She will be three and I've heard 3 is very hard. Will I be able to sleep until 9:30 or will my toddler wake us up? I bet she will wake us up - sleeping late was my saving grace when she was a tiny baby. Weekends I'm hoping to get some alone time with my daughter as well as have her go with daddy too. We will see when I want to start pumping LOL.

Right now in the mornings while getting dressed I have do strange things like to fly Simba around the room and have him help pick out clothes while DD follows with Mufasa, and I wonder will I still be able to do that when baby comes? I am most afraid of missing out on my time with Bells she is such a fun sweet kid.

  • @leksiL I think three is a great age for introducing a new baby. My second son was 3 when my youngest was born, and I felt like he was the perfect age of innocence and independence. He was starting to do some things by himself but was also a helper and interested in the baby. Introducing a new sibling is always such a fun dynamic to watch with the older one(s).

I think having her in school will definitely help you get more newborn snuggles. That’s a regret I had when I had my second - I should have gotten him involved in activities earlier so I could have had more 1 on 1 bonding time with my new one. @craftywitch has the right idea about sending them with dad!

I’m nervous about this baby being even closer in age than my others (the new baby and my youngest will be 19 months apart). It’s going to be another adjustment, but I’m sure we will find our new normal... I think... 😬
  • @therealbitts I'm sure you will figure out the new normal and your 5ish year old will probably be even more helpful?

  • @leksiL I think he will! He will be four and his older brother will be six when the new baby comes. They are already SO good with their baby brother now, so I know they will be extra sweet to this new babe too.
  • Seriously cannot decide which pregnancy was worse. My dh votes this one but I dunno. With my first I lost 15 lbs my first try and couldn’t eat until like 16 weeks cause I was so sick. I lived on like crackers and grapes. Non stop nausea but only threw up twice. This one however I can eat anything I want for the most part. BUT I have thrown up so many times more with this one. I’ve already gotten sick more. And I can’t take medicine or it immediately makes me hurl. 🤷‍♀️

I didnt really know a pregnancy journal was a thing 😂 so didn’t keep one the first time. I did log my crazy dreams though cause I found them hilarious. I’m a photographer so we are definitely doing some stuff. I haven’t started any real bump pictures yet cause I don’t really have one but weekly we go to the store and I have my daughter hold the fruit of how big baby is in front of my belly.

I think I was 18 weeks when I felt DD move. I have a feeling I have already felt this one a couple times but I’m really not sure yet haha.

My daughter just started preschool. She’s 3.5. She loves it. I brought a chalk board and intended to just photoshop in the text but she was so excited for school she didn’t really wanna hold it. Got cuter photos without it so I’ll probably use those and just add text on the image somewhere.
  • @sharonholck28, I’m sorry you feel so sick again this time around!
  • How's it going?
Thankfully not as nauseous as I was during the 1st trimester. However, still just as tired. Although my son now loves to point out that my belly has a baby in it and announces it proudly wherever we go by telling people "look at my mommy big belly. mommy has baby in big belly." So that has been adorable and hilarious.

Did you keep a pregnancy journal last time? Are things different this time around?
I did not keep a pregnancy journal last time.. I tried too but kept forgetting to do it. I don't plan to do it this time around either.

This is the month some of us should start to feel movement! Do you remember when you did last time? T+TM was it earlier the second time around?
Last pregnancy I remember feeling movement around this time but the first time you could actually see the movement was at a Phish concert when I was about 18 weeks. I remember it clear as day because my husband was even able to see our little dude move. I can't wait for that feeling again. It is/was one of the things I missed about being pregnant.

LOs are starting school this month or next. What grade is/are your LOs entering? Are you doing anything special? Taking photos with those chalkboard thingies? Do you have any expectations for how transition to a new class will go?
Luckily, my kiddo won't start school until next year. He missed the cutoff for free public preschool by 2 months. And I am totally ok with it. I want to soak up as much time with him before baby gets here.

For those of you stressing about going from 1 to 2, you can do it! DD1 was only 17 months when DD2 was born, and I’m what some might call a hot mess mom. And, we survived! Were there moments when I let my newborn cry while I helped DD1 change her baby doll’s diaper? Yes. But at 3 and 2 they are best friends. It will take you a little while to find your new normal but you will find it.

ETA my biggest piece of advice would be to allow for everything to take 30 minutes longer than you think it will take.
