Re: Product Spotlight: Pregnancy Pillows

  • I am a stomach sleeper. I will continue to sleep on my stomach until it’s not comfortable which is what I did last time somewhere around early 2nd tri.

I bought the Snoogle Mini Pregnancy Pillow last time and I grew to like it. It took some getting used to. I wanted a bigger one but H refused to let me take up that much of the bed. It helped me sleep on my side but did require some adjusting if I wanted to roll to the other side.

  • @jvk2012 Thanks for the link, I will definitely look into this pillow!

I am a side/stomach sleeper and I already have a LOT of pillows. DH is also fighting me on getting a pregnancy pillow. Right now my only concern is having to pee so much. Every single time I finally get all my pillows situated and I'm comfortable - I have to pee! GAH!

Funny that we are talking about pregnancy pillows because I just caved yesterday and bought one. It’s the PharMeDoc C shaped pillow on Amazon and I’m really looking forward to getting it tomorrow!

Being a FTM, I didn’t know what to expect with sleep changes. Im one of those people who NEEDS to sleep well to function and I typically do that on my stomach or right side. I slept on my stomach until I couldn’t anymore, then switched to my back randomly. A couple days ago that became too uncomfortable for me too so I started side sleeping with pillows to prop my leg up and support my back. I’ve just found that maneuvering two pillows every time I need to adjust is difficult and not really helping. I’ve already gotten frustrated with 3 days of bad sleep, so fingers crossed this pillow changes my life like the reviews said it would. This mama needs the back pain and sleepless nights to go away!

  • @brookert615 I feel your pain. We put in all this hard work to situate ourselves just right and then when we’re finally comfortable, it’s time to pee! So frustrating lol
  • I also have a Snoogle. This time around I bought a cover for it that zips, because taking off the original cover and putting it back on is the PITS. The cool thing about the Snoogle is it supports sleep on left or right side, you just position it differently for the right.

I used to be a stomach sleeper but after 6ish months of sleeping with a snoogle I can't sleep on my stomach anymore, as it hurts my neck and trap oddly enough. I sleep on my left side because I read that it supports better blood flow to the baby. The problem is that since I switched to the side of the bed closest to the bathroom, I have to lift the entire pillow to get out of bed, and it can be a big mess.

Also DD loves the pillow and when she comes and hangs out with us in the mornings while we get ready she loves to play with it. This morning it was a fire truck.

  • I am a back and side sleeper. I haven;t made any adjustments, and my OB practice as a whole says you can sleep on your back as long as its comfortable for you- you arent risking cutting off blood supply to your baby, thats pretty unfounded. No concerns going forward. I have seen this movie before. BTDT.

    For STM/STM+...

    • Did you have to modify your sleep position? If so, how? I ended up sleeping more on my side (right or left doesnt matter) by the end because my back was too uncomfortable, but I did learn to use my pregnancy pillow to hike under my back so I was like...kind of on my back.
    • What type of pregnancy pillow would you recommend/worked for you? I got a U shaped pillow. SO MUCH BETTER than the C shaped because if youw anna flip over at night you dont have to also move your pillow since the pillow is also on your other side already!
    • What brand pregnancy pillows would you recommend/worked for you? I found one on amazon, cant remember
  • I’m typically a stomach sleeper and it hasn’t been comfortable for awhile now so I’ve been sleeping on my side with a pillow between my knees. I do have a Snoogle that I used when I was pregnant with both my LOs but I’ve been hesitant to bust it out because it kind of hurt my neck and I remember it being annoying when I wanted to roll over in the middle of the night. I’ll probably cave and bring it out soon, or maybe just use a body pillow this time.
  • I did get a pregnancy pillow last pregnancy but didn't end up using it much. I had heartburn pretty badly so couldn't sleep in the bed as it was too flat. I also had bad right hip pain later in pregnancy so I couldn't lie on my right side. I ended up sleeping in the couch with some extra pillows! I already gave away my pregnancy pillow and I think I'll just get by with some extra pillows... It was such a pain to get in and out of bed with it anyways. If it's helpful for you, great, but I found it not really that useful for me
  • I had a snoogle my first 2 pregnancies and I loaned it to a friend. It’d had it after 3 uses. This time I got one that was a prime day deal on amazon. It’s fairly similar. I like both.

I sleep on my side so nothing really changes. It’s hard to stay in any one place too long and I’m sure that’ll only get worse (it always has). Currently I fall asleep in our recliner then wake up for my progesterone shot and move to the bed.

  • I'm a flipper. I usually sleep on all sides, so I began sleep training myself for side sleeping early because I knew it would take some time.  I'm a FTM, but I bought a pillow weeks ago when stomach sleeping became uncomfortable and I love it.

QUEEN ROSE Pregnancy Pillow - Full Body U Shaped Maternity Pillow,Support Your Back/Neck/Head with Velvet Cover,Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N44MTLJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UAXuDbBN39EPF

I don't use any regular pillows at all anymore, just this one. You kind of have to fluff it up when you get it out of the vaccum seal, but I have zero complaints. I also like that I can still back sleep and just kinda prop one side under my back so im a little leaned if I need to. Yes it is huge and takes up half the bed, but I finally have claim back of my side.  My husband has been invading my side of the bed for years, now he physically can't! I love it. He's also jealous and wants one for himself 😆
  • I have always been a side sleeper. Right now, I’ve only been uncomfortable because I get up 2-4 times to pee.

I just used a body pillow with my first pregnancy, and kept using one even when not pregnant. I hug it, and put part of it through my legs. It helps me sleep.
  • I am typically a side sleeper but for some reason I keep waking up on my back since getting pregnant. I haven't gotten to the point where I need the extra support yet, but have definitely added a pregnancy pillow to my Amazon wish list for later.
  • +1 for the mini snoogle!

STM I had the mini through my first pregnancy and liked it to support my belly and between my knees.

I busted it out already this pregnancy.

I sleep however ever I can get comfortable these days. A mixture of side and back.
  • FTM here.
I'm an all over the place sleeper. DH laughs at some of the positions I've pulled off, (for example laying on my back, leg bent so my foots flat and the other leg crossing the upright leg).
I sleep much better on the right side than I do if I try to sleep on my left side. For some reason my nose gets stuffy on the left. Ive heard sleeping on the left is much better so I guess that concerns me the most.
  • I've always been a side sleeper, with a little stomach mixed in. I've been trying to just sleep on my left side because I have bad acid reflux. I have never been a back sleeper, but weirdly, I've been flipping onto my back in the last few weeks. I have lower-back aches the next day when I do this, so something I'm trying to work on. Would definitely love suggestions on the best pregnancy pillows because I'm a historically bad sleeper and will take anything that helps. Is it mainly to just have some more support on your side/to support a belly?

  • @babylawyer, as you get bigger your belly will want to rest on the bed which can be awkward unless there is a pillow under it lifting it up a bit. Also, for me, having my knees together while on my side is uncomfortable so I like a pillow between them. Whether you achieve the support from a pregnancy pillow or a bunch of well placed regular pillows is personal preference. But you probably will want more support as your belly grows.
  • I am a side or back sleeper so I got the C shaped Snoogle and it helped me a lot. It helped me stay on my side, and supported my belly. It also helped with sciatic pain. I really want to try to go dig it out of storage, but it might be easier to just buy a new one. I’m interested in the mini since we are in a smaller bed currently. The snoogle took up a lot of space and we had a king at that point.

  • I’m a side sleeper and I used the Snoggle for my first pregnancy. I need to dig it out of my storage bins to make sure it’s all good. I liked it because it supported the belly and could go between the legs for hip support.
