Product Spotlight 8/9: Bath Time

    I'm going against the prompt. ☺️ We ended up using a baby bath tub once when DD was 3-4 months old and hating it. Until she could sit up on her own, we lay down beach towels on the counter and did a sponge bath, washing one limb at a time. Once she sat up consistently, we put her in an empty bathtub and use the shower wand to give her a shower.

    • What you like about it: It worked. I really hate giving the baby a bath until they can sit up, but this one works, so 🤷 We used this from 2 weeks (when the umbilical cord fell off) until I was sure she could sit up well, probably around 6 months. 
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: It's hard to store.

    • What you like about it: This product was great for DD's sensitive skin. She would breakout with any J&J, even their sensitive line. It also helped her cradle cap. I didn't switch to J&J until she was about 18 months.
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: It's hard to wash out of a wash cloth because it's thicker like conditioner.

    Just a question about bath time. How often do you need to bathe baby when they're so tiny?

    @peppyj9 - About every other day to every 3rd day, more than that and it can cause dry skin. You do need to wipe the face and neck area and bottom area with a wet wash cloth every day though.

    @peppyj9 like mare said, we did every 3rd day, we wiped her with a wet cloth daily around face and neck + bottom.

    @peppyj9 We were told once or twice a week at first and then move to every few days. We do a bath every other day right now.

    We had the angel care bath for ds and loved it. I was able to use it on the counter for sponge baths in the beginning then I set it in the tub afterwards. We used it until he could sit up. I like that it didn’t collect water, was easily hung up out of the way and was easy to clean off. We will use again this time around too.

    When he first starting sitting up, I liked this sponge so he didn’t slide all over. Easy to use and easy out. Dried quickly and easy to store

    For spout covers we had a hard plastic one that didn’t fit well over the spout. I eventually found this and actually still use it 3 years later.

    For products I love the Shea Moisture Baby. Ds has sensitive skin and eczema. This helped calm his skin and we still use it at 4 years old. It smells so good.

    For dd we just used a cheap baby bath & since we only have a shower in our house atm, we go into the shower with her now.
    we use childs farm products for her & love them - all natural products & smell amazing (we also use their moisturiser, sun screen etc)

    • What you like about it: we loved this product for our last two! For the first 4-5 months we do sink baths and our babies loved this. It kept them off the cold surface (even the plastic tubs can be startling cold) and it was way easier to ring out than the blooming flower mat we had for our first.

    • Additional thoughts on [bath time]: we are a real keep-it-simple family and for us it was much easier to store this than a big plastic tub. I don’t think it would work well in an actual full size bathtub if you wanted baby to be able to be partially submerged.

    @persnickity I'm with you.  I sat in the bath maybe once or twice with my daughter and then from then on we just took her in the shower with us, which was maybe once a week. We never used soap on her skin either and still don't unless she really wants to act like us.  When we started there were tears, but she learned to deal.  Now she showers with us whenever she has had a really messy day.  

    To everyone else - just do what works for you.  I personally don't think you need anything, but that was just our experience.  


    Edited to add:  My sister, who lives in Mexico, is horrified by how infrequent we bathe my daughter and that we use the shower. They bathe their kid's every day, warm the bathroom, use special towels, products etc. It is one of those funny parenting things that we just don't talk about.    So basically, to each their own.
