Soon-to-be-FTM who plans to use CD. I was reading that cloth diapers were less likely to lead to diaper rash... so I assumed that diaper cream was less of a necessity. However, I'm also hearing that i should be using diaper cream with each change. I also know that some diaper creams are incompatible with cloth diapers.
What brands do you recommend? and with what frequency are you using?
This really depends. Some babies get fewer rashes in cloth because they're sensitive to the materials in disposables. Some babies (like mine) get more because the cloth is more "wet." It's still not a lot of rashes though.
I only use rash cream when my baby has a rash. I've heard of putting cream on with every change, regardless of cloth or disposable, but I don't know anyone who does that.
Basically, the general advice is you want a non-petroleum rash cream because the oils can coat fibers and cause them to repel liquid. (Some say that isn't even necessary because a good wash routine will take care of that.)
I use Weleda, I only use it when my baby has a rash, I have always had rashes heal fast, and I have had no issues with my diapers.
I use the green Bordeaux tube. Definitely not every change. I've heard the you can use any paste if you use all natural diapers (cotton, bamboo, hemp) but then you must have main wash be hot. I wash on warm, so I only use non-petroleum.
