@allthingsfeta I am sorry your MIL was a witch. Why would she have a bad reaction to a pregnancy announcement?! Is she nice to your kids?

@doodleoodle do you mind me asking why you’re appointment isn’t until the 20th? My first isn’t Until the 22nd and I just want to hear this baby’s heartbeat!

@AlexisJoy92 I don’t understand why people think they have the right to tell people your news! That drives me crazy that people just don’t think! I’m glad you got to tell your family!

@kbrinks2 The first appointment at my OB office is a dating scan and they don’t like to see anyone until they are 9-12 weeks so that it is more accurate and they know for sure they should be able to see a heartbeat etc. I’ll be almost 13 weeks by then though.. I honestly think the receptionist who scheduled me had never scheduled a first appointment before though. She put me on hold a lot and seemed flustered.

@rikiteacup I can’t wait to hear about this interaction with your mil!

@doodleoodle gotcha! That makes sense then! I'll be about 13 weeks too but I’m out of province and won't be back until then for my first appointment!
  • Options
@kbrinks2 the waiting is terrible, but the good thing is that if things look good at that late in the first trimester then we should be good to go!

She loves my kids. And they love her. She is an amazing Grandma. But she is also a complete and utter pessimist. Basically everything decision that we make will "ruin" our lives.

I love her, but she is a whole lot to handle.

@zseirecarg, I just flew and talked to my OB. The metal detectors are fine and the full
body scanners are considered safe but my OB said it was up to me if I preferred to opt out. I only went through metal detectors but probably would have opted out to be safe.

@zseirecarg full body scanners are totally fine as well as metal detectors. There are countless sources online where you can find that information. Here is one with some OBGYNs chiming in.

@babyroma DH doesn’t have “paternity leave.” But he’s going to save up PTO so he can take some time off after I go back to work.

@babyroma my husband’s company offers paternity leave, but it’s unpaid so he’s hoarding all of his vacation time, and will probably only use a little paternity leave.

@babyroma a little anecdote, my cousin's hipster company offered "awesome" paternity leave. Something like 4 to 6 weeks PAID. This was really important to him when he was recruited. He got a baby earlier this year and planned to take his paternity leave once his wife would return to work. His company wasn't happy he was taking it and asked him to reconsider. Needless to say, he is looking for another job.

@rikiteacup wait so the company offers paid paternity leave, but is upset if you actually take it?

@ashpetralli I love your last meal! With my my first pregnancy I became so obsessed with Chick fil A sauce that I dipped everything in it: chicken, fries, grilled cheese, pickles etc.  If you haven’t tried the sauce yet then you’re missing out!

@babyroma my husband could split me the maternity/paternity leave but I’ve taken the full year for the past 2 babies. We both teach so he gets summers and holidays off with us! It’s easier for the school to just find one sub for the year as well!
  • Options
@daffodil_shoe yes, that is exactly it. He still took his paternity leave though but is afraid they're going to retaliate in subtle ways like not put him on important projects etc. That's why he is looking for another job.

@rikiteacup that's crazy!!! I cant say I blame him for looking for a new job! DH isn't sure about his options. He's hoping he has some, and if not, that he can rollover his PTO to have some time home.

    @rikiteacup that’s so messed up!
