1. How long have you been TTC?
2. What is your diagnosis?
3. What is your treatment plan?
Re: TTTC Check-in: 07/29/2019
AFM I took letrozole last week and have my first ultrasound tomorrow. I’m weirdly excited to see my insides and see if my body is responding well to the medicine. I also have my trigger shot so I’ll be interested to see when I’ll have to do that or if the doctor will. Does anyone have any insight? Or are there any questions I should be sure to ask the RE while I have her in the room?
AFM, nothing new, just on the next pack of BC. Surgery is next week Tuesday. Bleh. My mood has been all over the place and I'm trying to keep level headed as we get closer to using meds. Time to pick up yoga and meditation right? 😅
QOTW: Share the one thing/person/ritual/food/drink/etc you couldn't live without.
DH of course! 😁 There are a lot of other little things that come to mind though, like pickles (if I have a good aversion to pickles after I'm KU I'm going to be soo sad!), our new deck, the trees in our yard. Oh, and definitely my car and phone.

@2dogsmom I am so so sorry. Cry it out! This whole process can be so hard in so many ways. We are here for you and supporting you! I haven't done IUI yet so I'm not sure about the costs at my clinic, but that does seem pretty expensive! Does your insurance cover any of it?
@b_1029 I really like having the ultrasounds and seeing how my body is working! It helps me to feel a bit more in control....knowledge is power! Haha. I've been doing TI for three cycles now and we've always triggered at home. They showed us how to do it at the office but then it was up to us to do it at home. So I would guess that they will most likely have you do it at home. As far as questions for the RE, I would just make sure you completely understand your schedule they give you - when to trigger, when to BD, when to start/stop any other meds. I'd also ask if there is anything they think you should do or refrain from doing around the time of the trigger shot and the days following, in case there are things that can mess with the process. And try not to stress!
@hithertorue how are you doing? been thinking about you and all the hard things you have been through recently, and wishing you well
@nancinator i hope your transfer went well yesterday!!!!!!
AFM: had my beta today and it was negative. DH and I are going to talk about what we want to do next - if we want to keep trying TI or move on to IUI or take a break. We scheduled an appt with our RE on Wednesday to see what she thinks as well. I don't want my body to revert back to not ovulating and not having periods and all that, but I also am thinking that maybe if I take a few months and just really strictly diet and exercise and lose weight then maybe we will have a better chance of getting pregnant. I don't really know. When on vacation last week with my parents, my mom said that maybe I'm not getting pregnant because I'm so fat, and I'm thinking that maybe she is right. My RE said that the number on the scale doesn't matter as long as I am eating healthy and exercising, but my general practitioner physician said that reducing my BMI by 5% could increase my chances of getting pregnant. So I'm just confused and frustrated and unsure and scared. But, on we go! Hopefully we will have more information come Wednesday.
dx: PCOS, hypothroidism
Second TTGP: started meds for first cycle of tx on 10/13/21
@b_1029 My triggers were always in the evening between 7-10pm (for 1 TI cycle and 2 IUIs).
@inthewoods23 It will be quick and easy. My hysteroscopy was not bad at all x
@knockupthestock So sorry you had a negative beta. Sending you hugs. I wouldn't rush a decision as you're feeling confused and upset right now. Every time I got a negative, I'd start getting in my head and it made everything worse. Regarding weight I actually read this interesting article last month and I'm not sure if it's helpful in your specific case but will link you anyways : https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/18/magazine/fertility-weight-obesity-ivf.html
So I didn't sleep well the night before my transfer and only got about 4 hours of sleep. I felt fine during the actual transfer but 24 hrs later, I've developed a fever. It was 101.5 when I first took my temp and now it's down to 100.4 since taking Tylenol. My doctor said it won't affect the outcome or success but I'm feeling quite upset as I was instructed not to exercise as it can up my body temperature!! Ugh why??
Thank you all so much for your sweet words and love after my last post. I had a dark couple days and felt good to have my little support crew here who would know exactly how I felt seeing that .... was pretty down until my day 6 scans. @knockupthestock - those prayers must have been some good ones, Day 6 I had 17 immature follicles (up from 5 on Day 3)!!! I just about bawled from joy when the nurse said that. "The girls slept in" was my joke, as in the ovaries were still sleeping on day 3. Ugh!! That was just not a nice feeling seeing only 5 and thinking, "well I guess I'm just all dried up!!"
Phew! Have been a little exhausted since all that fuss last week and feel like I'm still kind of recovering. 3 days into my stims and done my half dose letrozole now. Wait and see if I have any showing signs of growth tomorrow morning... I have a feeling we might be a little delayed compared to other cycles from the way things started.
Updated to add on Tues am: have 5 follicles growing.
@knockupthestock sorry to hear about your beta result. My turn for prayers for you. Was sorry to read about all the comments your mom was making. That had to have been so hard. As if IF doesn't suck enough on it's own you have to contend with people blaming it on you personally as if it was you or your weight that is the cause. That is not fair at all. I didnt get a chance to read that article from @nancinator but so far seemed like a really good one. I know plenty who were pregnant with no problem because of their weight and I know a few with underlying hormonal problems that were CAUSING their weight. So that just isn't fair at all to say or even hint at. So sorry you have had to contend with that. Definitely don't decide until you can have that level headed conversation with the doctor. And hope that they provide some valuable advise and guidance for you!! ❤❤❤
@2dogsmom -- so sorry to hear AF arrived. Damn!!! I would have had a cry with you . Such a nasty part of this process. As if the negative isn't bad enough then you have to menstruate to rub it in. Here for you if you need to vent. (In Canada so I can't comment on costs in the US)
@nancinator -- sorry to hear you're feeling off. Hope that fever is gone quick so you don't have to think about that. I'm sure your doctor wouldn't say it would be fine if it weren't. I think exercise from what I've been told is more to do with taking bloodflow away from the uterus more so than increasing body temp. From my Chinese medicine and acupuncture, a little heat is supposed to be good for fertility.
@inthewoods23 hope you find a way to distract yourself ahead of your surgery next week. Rooting for you. Anticipation is usually worse than the actual event though. Hope that's going to hold true for this for you.
@b_1029 for my IUI's trigger has always been evening as they want to time the IUI for 36 hours after trigger and they do the procedures in the morning. So definitely best to ask at your next appointment how they do the timing of the trigger for TI! Excited for you to go through the initial process. Knowledge is power, like someone already said and it feels like you're progressing no matter outcome when you're going through these cycles versus trying on your own and wondering.
❤ sending big hugs to you ladies this week for everything ahead. Prayers for us all.
QOTW: DH of course! Haha should have said other than your SO.... my Dog!
Rue:
@inthewoods23 must be hard just waiting for the surgery— hang in there!
@knockupthestock sorry you’re feeling so confused and frustrated. I hope the meeting Wednesday can help you figure out next steps. I have found weight loss to be very difficult for me in this journey as well (I am about 20 lbs over where I want to be, which is 5 lbs higher than when we started TTC). It’s hard because some of the meds haven’t helped my progress, and I gain weight eating salad right now. My GP made a similar comment about it and I was feeling really bad about myself thinking my weight was a factor the first 6-8 months.... turns out my ob and re didn’t agree at all. They subscribe to the “eating healthy” belief, which I decided to follow and try not to obsess about getting the weight off. I totally get that feeling of confusion but I don’t believe your mom should be making you feel bad about yourself and I don’t believe that GPs know that much about IF so I would definitely trust your RE and keep taking good care of yourself. So sorry they made you feel so upset!
@nancinator so sorry to hear you have a fever, I hope you feel better soon! I know a few people who had fevers early on in T1 and were totally fine so hopefully this works and you get the positive!!
@hithertorue wow that sounds like a positive turn but kinda scary to jump into ER for IVF when that wasn’t what you had planned this cycle. Still, at least they are growing. When is your next US? When do you make the decision about trigger vs ER? And how are you feeling now? Definitely an emotional roller coaster!
Also THANKS for starting the check in! Are you interested in doing them every week or would you like help? (I would love for you to start them weekly, just don’t want you to feel stuck).
AFM I am feeling confused about what to do for next steps. My RE wants to keep going with IUI for at least 2 more rounds but it’s so expensive (& I have what is usually considered good insurance but since I don’t “need” to be pregnant nothing related to IF is covered. The US health system sucks). Debating if we should just jump straight to IVF (which also feels overwhelming). I knew it would cost a lot but it’s about $500 more per cycle than I was anticipating. Idk just feeling super depressed at the moment.
Qotw — since people have already said dog (my first go to) and DH (he ties with the dogs in my mind) I’m going to go with my bed/pillow/blankets. Every time I travel and then come home I am reminded of how much I love my own bed LOL.
@nancinator ugh sorry about the fever! Hope it goes away soon and doesn’t affect your transfer at all.
@hithertorue wow, your ovaries are crushing it! Will you go in for monitoring tomorrow/ later this week to see what’s going on, or do you have to make a decision now? Also- my cat is named Rue! Great minds think alike- your Rue is beautiful!
AFM- had my ultrasound this morning. The RE said my right ovary is being lazy and has several immature follicles, but there’s a 19mm one on my left ovary. She likes to see them over 20mm so said I should trigger after 6 pm tomorrow. I’m too nervous to do it myself the first time so I’m having my bff (who’s a nurse) do it. I think DH would faint. She also said my lining was 8.5 or so (I can’t remember exactly but she said it was looking thick and good)

@2dogsmom Ugh yep I was there. I think looking back I could have tried a couple more rounds of IUI (i only did 2) plus one month of T.I. but my impatience led me to where I am now haha. I don't regret moving on but I also don't know if iui #3 would have worked. Sometimes it works on #3, #4, #5, or #6 and it's all about how much time you're willing to spend and what your financial position is. I still cringe when I look at the bills but I'm grateful we can pay for it all without loans.
@hithertorue omg! ask her what the chances really are that all 5 follicles are mature enough to ovulate and fertilize and make it to implantation? are you alright with twins? when I had my IUI cycles I remember I responded very well to clomid and they said i had 3 follicles - we triggered and cycle failed. So who the hell knows if the percentage goes up that dramatically for success. personally having gone through an actual IVF retrieval cycle, I would be more comfortable knowing I had at least 10-15 eggs? with my 35 eggs retrieved, 26 were mature, 20 fertilized, and 15 made it to blastocyst so you see the numbers drop off.
AFM - The fever threw me into a spiral! It went up even higher yesterday to nearly 103 and I immediately went to urgent care. By the time the nurse took my temp is was down again to 99. I made them take my urine, blood, and flu swab and it all came back fine. I guess I just have a virus that is already going away as I feel better today. I hope little embryo is sticking in there. I would hope that it's protected enough and I agree - the acupuncturists always say it needs warmth??
@2dogsmom to bounce off what @nancinator said, as I was also a bit impatient. My RE first said she recommended 3 IUIs, but after the 3rd they were saying she recommends 4 but it's up to us. I'm so glad we just moved on to IVF. DH has low morph and in some places I read that the recommendation takes you straight to IVF but my RE recommended tryin the IUIs first. The sperm wash does get rid of a lot of the not so great sperm so we probably did have slightly higher chances than natural. Although our natural chances is probably a lot less than the standard 20% chance every cycle.
The IVF process takes a lot longer than an IUI so consider the amount of time it would be before a transfer occurs (my clinic does freeze all, no fresh transfers). I started the IVF process in April, ER in June, and my FET us scheduled for September.
Ultimately it's up to you of course, but this community has been amazingly helpful in navigating the world of IVF for me. I actually get very excited for those that choose to move on to IVF because I know they are in good hands as I was!

@nancinator I’m really glad you’re feeling better. Scary to have such a high temp at such a critical time. FX your TWW goes smoothly and you have good news to share soon.
What a crazy week.
CD12 today, I had to cut down to a half dose of FSH yesterday because my ovaries are trying to grow a litter. Every day I've been adding on 1 or 2 follicles. As of today I have 9 maturing ranging from 10-15mm. E2 is still on the low-ish side at 1400.
They thought there was a good chance we weren't going to be doing an IUI this cycle and would either have to cancel or switch to an ER for IVF.
Just got off the phone with the nurse. The doctor looked at my results and supported/agreed with what I was thinking... confirmed there likely isn't a good number of quality eggs in those 9 follicles so we could probably do better on an egg retrieval if we started the cycle from day 1 planning for it. As I didn't want to waste our 1 cycle of government funding in Ontario I'm happy to hear that.
She also said based on estrogen levels there are probably only 2-3 eggs within those 9 that might be mature enough if we were to trigger this weekend, so we can still probably proceed with IUI. Tomorrow's appointment will decide.
What a rollercoaster! From next to no antral follicles to lots to this pile of maturing!!! And then playing the yes, no, yes, no game all week....
@2dogsmom -- I wanted to send you a message earlier this week. Sorry you're having a rough time wading through the costs and having to make these tough choices with that in mind. The closer I get to IVF the scarier it becomes for me too. But I'm really starting to feel like -- is IUI a waste of time and energy?? But then I chicken out at the thought of IVF. Almost being forced into it this cycle made me come to grips with a little more of it and dispell some of the unknowns for me... so that kind of helped in a way. The unknown is what's the most scary. Big hugs for you.
@b_1029 hope the trigger went ok?
@nancinator feeling any better??? Hope you've got some good distractions lined up to keep your mind of the wait. This one would definitely be agonizing!
@knockupthestock how did things go with your RE Wednesday? Hope you're doing ok.
@inthewoods23 how are you holding up as you get closer to Tuesday? Hope you're also finding some distractions.
Sending everyone lots of love leading into the weekend. 🌻
@2dogsmom frankly I find going through IVF so empowering. I'm going through SO MUCH because I know I want nothing more than to be a mom and I deserve it! I can do this! As one of the nurses at my clinic said - she had been going through infertility for years, and it is so worth it when the dream comes true.
I haven't specifically said anything to family. But I'm going to lay out all the numbers when I do an announcement to the world/social media.
AFM yesterday, bladder was a little too full during the mock transfer but it was okay. I had just recently had lunch so no kidding that it was full.
During the consent signing I signed for our best male embryo (3rd best out of our 5 I finally found out!). The order goes FFMFM. Gradings were 5B+B+, 5B+B, 5BB+, and 5BB. The male we'll be transferring I can't remember if the grading went B+B or BB+. Either way, I'm really glad they're all close in grading and she said they all are worthy of making a live baby!

@hithertorue wow, crazy back and forth! What did you end up doing? That’s great you respond so well to the meds but it sounds like you went from 0-60 real quick!
@inthewoods23 still so excited for you!
the trigger shot went well (Wednesday night) but the area has been pretty sore ever since. Today seems slightly better but it’s still pretty painful. The redness is finally fading so that’s a plus! Has this happened to anyone else?
I am assuming the soreness and redness is right at the injection site? Ovulation itself can cause some internal soreness for up to a few days...? Tylenol and Gatorade apparently do the trick. Gatorade is helping me immensely right now for the free fluid I've got going on from all these follies and the cysts I had dissipate earlier this week.
We are still on track to do IUI now. The doctor agreed we would likely get better results for an egg retrieval for IVF if we were planning for that from day 1. So me and my 9 follicles are waiting for a few to get big enough to trigger. I guess my estrogen still being low for that many follicles the Dr can tell that not all are going to develop or have an egg inside them. As of today's scans I have 3 follicles 15-17mm, 1x 13mm, 1x 12mm, and 4x 10-11mm and my estrogen is at 1900, LH 9. So I did another 25 IU of Letrozole after she looked at my bloodwork and US and go for another monitoring appt tomorrow morning and likely triggering tomorrow for IUI Tuesday (unless my LH surges naturally tomorrow and we need to do a double IUI Monday and Tuesday).
🙈 I'm dreading what ovulating 9 is going to feel like. 4 last cycle was very tender!
@b_1029 thank you! I feel better but still having headaches which is probably from the Endometrin (it's a progesterone suppository that I have to shove up there 3x day which is slightly better than progesterone shots into the butt muscle I suppose). I remember when I did my injections, the best thing to do is really pinch the skin otherwise I got a bruise. I watched loads of youtube videos as well - the freedom fertility ones are good.
@inthewoods23 yay! those are all so close I doubt it even matters!!
@2dogsmom it's always going to be an intimidating jump. but you have loads of women on here in TTTC and also in the Infertility board to bounce off your questions and worries with xox
AFM.......
Congratulations!
Dx: low morph (1%), ANA positive, low decidualization score, high TSH and testosterone, histone antibodies

Can’t imagine the pain of ovulating 9! I hope everything goes ok!
@nancinator I will definitely have to check out those videos, thank you! And congrats- that’s so freaking exciting!
@hithertorue what an emotional week for you — glad it’s going to work for IUI and hope it won’t be too painful with 9 (omg!)
@b_1029 my trigger shots hurt for a few days. Plus we do them in the stomach so I really notice them. I also watched the freedom fertility videos and found them helpful!
@inthewoods23 so exciting you are getting so close! Yay for a healthy embryo with several to spare/use later. That’s awesome!
And thanks all for the support, I have an appointment on the 12th which should help me with some decision making (I hope).
I can’t help but to continue lurking on this board to see how you ladies are all doing; it’s hard to let go and not want to read how you’re all doing. It sounds like a lot of you are getting some great results lately! Please know that I’m continuing to hope and pray that you all get your BFPs really soon and am thinking of you all!!!
