Re: TW Tuesday 7/23

  • ikea furniture - the breaker of marriages! We got dd a new bed at the weekend & dh, whilst he has so many great qualities, is not a handy man by any means. What should have taken an hour, took 5 cause he took it apart and rebuilt it 4 different times cause it looked wonky. When i came in & pointed out how to fix it, there was nearly divorce on sunday evening!

  • @leprechaunlady oh no!!! I also prefer to put Ikea things together myself. I can do it in half the time with no fighting. My husband is also not great at that sort of thing. But hates to admit he’s wrong.
  • @MrsJessS he acutally agreed on sunday evening that i can do it all in future! lol
  • @leprechaunlady @MrsJessS dh and I have a deal for whenever something needs to be built. I take the directions and read them off at each step while dh builds it. I also make sure its done right before moving on. It’s saved a lot of projects and a lot of fighting lol.
  • I wonder what it is that men can't put together IKEA furniture but women can? Following directions maybe? My father and I bought the same bookcase at the same time and he called me the next day offering to help because it had been difficult for him to assemble...I had it built, anchored and holding books within an hour.
  • Bring this thread back to life because I need to vent!
TW award goes to my insurance company, who can't do anything right.
Last year my sister had a sudden cardiac arrest while driving, wrecked her car, and the cops that arrived on the scene couldn't find a pulse and had to shock her twice with a defibrillator. She spent 5 days in ICU and was diagnosed with a rare heart condition called CPVT. Basically your heart goes crazy when your under physical or mental stress and it can cause you to pass out or worse your heart to stop. All 4 of us girls have all had issues passing out but we were all misdiagnosed.
Fast forward to this year, where I'm in contact with a cardiologist who wants me to do a genetic test for the marker for CPVT before he puts an ICD in. I call insurance, get a verbal response that it's covered, and go ahead with the test. 3 months later I get a bill from the genetic testing company for $4,500. Insurance now says I'm not covered for it. So now I'm in the middle of an appeals process.
The maddening thing is, if I had paid the genetic company out of pocket it would have only been $250.

Oh, I did the same test for my daughter, so that means in a few months I'm probably going to get slapped with another $4,500 bill. Nine freaking thousand dollars, for something that could have only been $500 had my insurance company not LIED to me!
  • @marebare that's fucking dumb. Honestly it should be covered as you have family history. Either the dr didn't code it right or insurance is just being douche bags. Family history usually makes genetic tests preventive vs diagnostic. That's why my BRAC testing back a few years ago was covered because of my family's history of breast cancer. Definitely appeal and mention the family history.

  • @marebear15 what a mess! Insurance companies are the worst! Hopefully you can get some kind of back dated approval or something put through so it’s covered.
  • @marebear15 That freaking sucks! How could they not cover something that obviously should/needs to be done for your health? Could you contact the insurance commissioner for help since they lied? I’m not sure if they can help, but doesn’t hurt I suppose. Also, glad your sister made it through that, sounds so scary! I hope that it all works out in your favor.
  • @marebear15 what a nightmare! Dealing with insurance companies is so frustrating! Hope your appeal goes through since not only did they tell you it was covered, but as @stashattack mentioned, it should be, based on family history. At the very least, maybe the company can change the bill and bill you directly for the $500 instead of going through your insurance.
  • @marebear15 if insurance doesn't work out I would talk to the testing company and see if they can just direct bill instead. What a hassle! Been there and I hate medical billing period!
