Re: TFAS 7/15

  • @bows22 oooh a sprinkler is a good idea. I think we'rev going to end up staying inside with the AC for the rest of today. It's just too darn hot out today, which is a bummer because there's lots of garage sales within walking distance today and tomorrow that I'd love to check out. Sprinkler isn't an option here because DH still needs to fix the water connection to our outside water.
  • @bows22 and @gingermama29 could you turn your bathtub into a fun water play area?!  Even put your LO's in their bathing suits, for something different than a regular bath.  They sell fun crayola tablets that change the color of the water, DS used to love those, and light up toys you can put in the water to change the color as well.  We used to have the foam letters and shapes that stick to the tub wall that DS would play with for a long time.  Other water toys that spin when you drop water on it or funnel water out differently are also always a big hit.

@bows22 I get it. I also feel bad asking my parents to watch DD so we can do stuff adults only. My parents watch my LO 2 times a week too.

I don't have any plans with DD for the weekend. It's the first time in a while that we don't have any events going on. DH works every weekend so I don't need to plan anything around him. I'm thinking we will stay indoors mostly, maybe go to the farmers market on Saturday morning. It is downtown and there is a splash pad that is in the shade in the mornings. There is a cool indoor play place 30 minutes from me, maybe I will take her there.

@kpearse99 the bathtub thing is a great idea too! I could even turn the shower on, she would love that. Thanks!

@m6agua see I need to figure out the tricks like that, which splash pads have shade at certain times. That’s a major mom win! But it sounds like you are going to have the perfect low-key weekend!
  • I need to come read this thread, I intro'ed in the Newbie thread earlier this week!

What number are you trying for? #3

    Month/Cycle? 0 - just started

WTO/TWW? WTO. Just recently removed my IUD and starting to track my cycle. Didn't get my period much, so not sure where I'm at currently.

Ages of other child(ren)? 3 years in August (DS1), and 19 months (DS2)

Any thoughts about this cycle? not much, just a little intimidated to be starting this.

Any questions? No yet. I'm sure there will be some soon.

Rant/Rave/Brag: It's going to be in the 100's this weekend. Not super common around my area. I'm NOT looking forward to it!

GTKY: What is something you do that annoys your spouse/SO but that you also have no plans to change? It annoys DH that I pack for vacations a week in advance and type up massive packing lists so we don't forget anything. I'm not sure why this annoys him. If someone made these lists for me and packed 75% of the things we need, I'd be ecstatic.
  • @bows22 no major plans, but DH and I are going to a hibachi restaurant tomorrow for dinner as a belated anniversary dinner. Probably gonna get some outside play in too. It's gonna be super hot, but DS doesn't do good when cooped up inside.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I went back and read, but it’s all days old so I’ll stay current!

This weekend we have swim lessons at our YMCA Saturday morning, my parents are coming afterwards to visit and spend time with my boys and DH is going to help his parents with a few things. Sunday we are going to the beach with some friends. It will be the first time for DS2 and I don’t think DS1 will remember when we brought him. I hope they enjoy it!

@bows22 I know Target had some bathtub paint somewhat recently. My boys loved it! And it was like $1.

@m6agua we often go to our Farmers market on Saturday’s too! I always enjoy the mostly free entertainment. Ours always has live music.

@mamaqdubu we do swim lessons at the Y on Saturday mornings too! My only complaint is that I wish it was a little more structured. Also I'm wishing I had your habit of packing for vacation early. We're leaving for my family vacation tomorrow and I haven't even started packing yet 😬.

@kpearse99 I love your bath tub suggestion! DD loves playing in the water.

  • @mamaqdubu welcome! We are happy you joined our little thread!! I had an IUD for 6 years before having it removed to TTC. So, I know what you’re going through! Let me know if you have any questions.

so, DH and I met with our RE to discuss all of our test results and what he sees as being the best plan for us is.  All of our results came back great and normal or above normal for someone in my/our age group. So that’s great news... however because we can’t seem to get pregnant on our own we are still considered “Infertile”.  Ugh, it’s such an ugly word... especially when, by the book, you should “be able to” get KU on your own.. anyways.... he thinks the best plan for a couple like us is letrozol and IUI. He said we could try for a few more months on our own but not too much longer than that, given the fact that I’m getting older. Ugh! We are still waiting on our genetic testing results that we should get back any day now, sonwe have a few days to decide, but I think, if all comes back good, we are going to just go ahead with the IUI’s.  What would you do? Wait it out a bit longer or just jump on the IUI train?

Can’t say he sleeps very well with me unless I’m snuggling him tight and even then he has nightmares where he yells, “Noooo! and flails his arms with a racing heart. Between that and getting teeth 15/16, it has been rough... especially since he sometimes isn’t eating enough at lunch and / or dinner. Then he wakes up hungry, in pain, and tired. Even when I give Motrin, he wakes up when it wears off. I hope these teeth stop bugging him soon. They take forever!

That’s so funny about your DS! Little kids are hilarious and he is so so cute!!! Love that he was so proud of himself!

@NYTino24 oh no!!! I’m so sorry about your middle of the night wake ups, that poor little bug! 😞 have you talked to the doctor about his nightmares? They sound like night terrors...  also, have you tried giving him a snack before bed on the nights he doesn’t eat much dinner? Like toast or even warm milk?

@kpearse99 your situation sounds a lot like mine (secondary unexplained infertility). It is indeed an ugly and sucky word. @kpearse99 that's so hard. It has to be so bittersweet getting normal results back but still having difficulty TTC. I don't know what I would do in your situation but IUI definitely sounds like a good option.

  • @kpearse99 i'm late to this, but our RE wanted us to do clomid + trigger + IUI. I asked why the IUI if DH's SA was great, like yours, above what is expected. He said we don't have to do it. From what I've read it doesn't necessarily increase the odds of conception much at all. At my clinic ifs $500 extra for the IUI, so a full monitored cycle is $1500 with IUI. To me, since my HSG was clear and DH's SA is good and really the problem currently is that I don't ovulate regularly, I'd rather skip the IUI and save the $500 to put toward another theoretical cycle.

that's all hoping I don't have to do it!  Also, I'm currently on my third round of letrozole and I've had no problems with it. My RE wants to try clomid because it's what he's comfortable with and since my letrozole with the OB "failed" he doesn't see the point in repeating it. We haven't decided to go back to the RE because I did start ovulating on my own. But if we do I think we'll skip IUI at least in the beginning to save money.

  • @flinstone-2 thanks for your story! It means a lot.  Thankfully my insurance does cover the IUI, otherwise we wouldn't even be entertaining the idea.  My doctor said that the IUI is similar to trying on your own at home but more successful and tends to be quicker because you know exactly when you're ovulating.. there's not guess work. That's really the only upside, I guess.

  • @kpearse99 The upside is that many/most? docs do the IUI with sperm wash and take out the dead / deformed sperm to get them out of the way of the good swimmers and increase chances of a healthy embryo.

  • @kpearse99 Back when we were TTC1, all of our testing came back normal also and we moved to gonal-f + IUI as soon as it was offered.  Statistically, I don't think it ups the odds a lot, but our RE said that sometimes the swimmers just need a little help getting through the cervix - like starting a race at the halfway point.  I know it's a really tough decision whether to try for a few more months or start IUI, but I'm glad we didn't wait.  Did they say anything about your TSH/thyroid?

  • @juliebeannn That's pretty much what he said too, I think we are going to go with this plan ASAP!  He did talk to me about my TSH and said he's not concerned.  He said that putting me on medication for it wouldn't do anything.  That the medication really only helps people in the 4.0 and higher range - and that there's no real proof that it has any effect on levels between 3-4, which is where I'm at.  So, I'll follow what he has told me.

  • @kpearse99 Yup, I had tons of them from an early age, too. I had so many recurring bad dreams! He has had then from a very young age, but not all bad. He used to laugh and smile in his sleep sometimes as an infant. His giggle was adorable. Those didn’t wake him up like these.

  • @NYTino24 Ugh, I hate the nightmares!  DS went through a phase of night terrors and it was the most terrifying thing ever.  I felt so helpless because I couldn't help him.  He seems to have stopped, so FX your son's stop on their own soon too!
