The other day I was bored and reading through other bmb's fffc and seriously judging anyone who admitted to drinking during pregnancy. I have seen too many people affected by FAS to be at all on board with this decision. Yes, I know some OB's say a little is ok but I have also read the study they base this on and let's just say it was poorly controlled so the conclusions are weak at best.
Also, I have been waiting all week to post this because pregnant me is very angry about it.
@mandk1233 I drank around the time that I think I might have ovulated and I’ve been concerned about it ever since my BFP because in all reality I have no clue when I ovulated.
I’ve been intentionally letting my clean laundry pile up so that this weekend DH will complain about it and then I can lock myself in my bedroom to watch Grey’s Anatomy, I mean, fold laundry.
@doodleoodle Honestly, that isn't the type of drinking that makes me judgey. It's people that know darn well they are pregnant and choose to have that glass of wine anyways because they "need to relax". From what I understand, drinking that early probably isn't the end of the world since the baby doesn't start getting nutrients from you until it has implanted.
Girl, I feel you! I have to break my laundry down into smaller bits these days because I just get overwhelmed otherwise. And I have watched so much Grey's in the last month.
@mandk1233 oh, I know! I was mostly looking for reassurances about FAS 😂 I mean, I had a lot to drink. I read that prior to the placenta forming it should be okay, but I also worry that no one actually knows anything for sure. Also, I’d be prepared to get flamed 😬 I did when I expressed a somewhat similar opinion on my first BMB.
@doodleoodle they can flame on me too because before I found out I was pregnant I had a raging girls night. And can't be sure if it was before or after conception(heck might have been the link to conception hahaha).
I have been playing up the ms a bit more so my husband does the animal care. I just really need a break from cat litter and bunny clean up.
I worked from home yesterday and took 2 half hour naps. Then I still played the “I’m so tired” card when my husband came home so I could get out of doing the dishes and be in bed by 10:30.
I didn’t milk pregnancy at all with my daughter so now I’m making sure I don’t make that same mistake with #2.
@lanie1000 and @leksiL I totally tried to milk it early on and my husband laughed at me and asked if this was what the next 8 months would look like. Since then I have started legit being too tired and/or nauseous to do much and he has uncomplainingly taken over. He is the best and I love him so much. 😍
I had a martini and raw seared ahi tuna hours before I took a pregnancy test lol. It’s ok. The baby is protected in those early weeks, from what I gather from google haha. but yeah, I’m a big “not even a sip of alcohol” when I’m pregnant. Why risk it.
It ticks me off when my husband thinks his “to do list” is so long. I’m like you literally have 3 things on it and I can take care of one of them if he would tell me what to order. I hope I die after him because no one will survive otherwise lol. The amount of multi tasking moms do goes unappreciated most of the time!!
@brookert615 my DH is scared too. With my second and third pregnancies, I experienced bleeding after sex. It totally freaked us out and ruined the mood. We haven’t yet since I got pregnant this time because we are both too freaked out for that to happen. It sucks.
@therealbitts I can definitely see that getting scary! I don't know I'm just going stir crazy. These hormones are W.I.L.D. Not sure if any of you watch Bad Mouth but I definitely think I got a hormone monster LOL (it's a raunchy and very inappropriate show on Netflix)
I guess my FFFC is that once I hit later second tri I have the occasional glass of red wine. My doctor is fine with it. I’m fine with it. My friends who are doctors are fine with it (and do it too). So yea.
I should mention I also eat rare steak, deli meats and soft cheeses while pregnant too. I would eat sushi if I liked it but alas, I find sushi to be gross

I eat deli meats and soft cheeses too. I’m more scared of eating romaine lettuce!
@kiwi2628 I ate so much deli meat with DD2. I’m honestly more worried about eating salad than deli meat. You hear about contaminated lettuce all the time!
ETA @jessieR358 I jut realized I basically said the exact same thing as you did 😂 whoops. I need to pay attention. Can I blame pregnancy brain?
I'm team drinks starting in second tri. I had a glass of wine or sangria whenever I wanted during my last pregnancy and will definitely be doing that again. My midwife supports it, and also supports drinking freely while nursing. I'm all about the happy mama, happy baby mentality. I don't think there's enough weight put on the happiness of mothers as full, complex human beings with needs and wants of their own, and there's this horrible infantilizing and policing of pregnant women as incubators that I absolutely stand against. My body and choices aren't suddenly public property and open for debate because I'm pregnant. I'm my own person and I'll be deciding what's best for myself and my baby on a wholistic level.
My FFFC is that I'm drinking my normal caffeine this time around. Last time I was super strict, but I read the book "Expecting Better" and have decided that with 1-2 coffees a day and only an occasional tea or coke I really have nothing to worry about even if some days surpass the 200mg rule. Also I highly recommend this book.
@craftywitch Out of curiosity, would you say it is infantilizing and policing people to be told that smoking is bad for your health and could lead to health problems like lung cancer? I look at it as research shows that we really don't know what a safe amount of alcohol is during pregnancy, so telling women it is best to abstain entirely doesn't mean we are treating them like children. It means we are trying to look out for mama AND baby's best interests. But that's just my two cents. You are entitled to your opinion and I certainly don't have to agree with it.
@mandk1233 I think there’s a huge difference between empowering women to decide for themselves what is best based on research and available information and infantilizing them by telling them what you’ve decided is best for them.
I always wonder if a catfish that was on the bump a while back has resurfaced under another username and I am always creeping on post history of users to see if anyone has the same lingo as her. Although it was very entertaining when she was found out publicly.
@craftywitch I totally agree with your overall mentality, maybe just disagree on some of the finer points. I think that the postpartum care of women is ridiculous. One appointment 6 weeks out and we’re calling it good?! It’s insanity that there is this whole attitude that how much you love your baby is supposed to cure any negative emotions you may be experiencing. After my first was born, I quit my job and totally isolated myself so that I could focus solely on my baby. To anyone that knew me that should have been a sign that something major was going on, but no one batted an eye.
My FFFC is that I think FFFC should be “Love it’s” only. Otherwise it should be renamed “Debate Friday” I feel like “UO Thursday” is where you should debate. Friday should be where you let go of a shocking confession and everyone just has to live with how they feel in silence. Makes for better reading as more people might participate knowing they definitely won’t be flamed. But maybe that’s just me lol
@craftywitch I read expecting Better last pregnancy and it was eye opening! I still won’t drink, but the data she gives is very interesting. I drink while nursing. No shame in that! I’ve been nursing for almost 4 years (not the same child, lord) . I can’t give up alcohol that long.
@brookert615 that’s true. I’ve seen some good conversations start up from FFFC too. But I just know in my last group there were a few girls that would circle the FFFC like sharks waiting to bite anyone that had even a mildly interesting confession. People stopped participating (or giving actual good confessions) pretty early because of it. Got boring fast. But I don’t mind a good debate either so I’m good either way.
@brookert615 I quietly lurked along that catfish scenario and have seen a random poster or two pop up in TTGP or the March BMB that seem a leeeeeetle suspect. I’ll just be over here. Waiting.
@anniemarie887 Bahaha! Yes! There definitely have been some people that have seemed suspicious 😂😂😂. I’m almost disappointed when I dig deep to find out they aren’t a catfish!
Definitely had some "oh, wow, it's not just me" moments when reading that. For some reason, I thought everyone else had some sort of secret, better solution to the jizz-shuffle that I was missing.
Also, not only do I eat deli meat and raw eggs, but also sushi. I eat a lot more cooked sushi now, but still allow myself a couple pieces of nigiri (raw fish) each time, and sometimes even a piece of tuna. Sushi is my favorite food and I figure pregnancy sucks enough that I should be able to indulge in moderation.
My solution for the jizz shuffle is to make my husband grab me paper towel or use the towel we laid down earlier to wipe myself before I get off the bed. I still end up doing the jizz shuffle, but it's slightly less messy that way.

@lanie1000 I am totally milking this pregnancy as well.
My confession is that it is noon and I have probably done maybe one hour of work today. 4 more to go!

I've been trying to think up a very inappropriate confession to break up this deli meat talk LOL. C'mon guys!
Maybe TTGP can give some inspiration!
