  • I'm thinking this is probably the right place for this post. My plan was to use OPKs but because I have such irregular cycles due to PCOS, I was told that temping might be a more accurate way to figure out my cycle. I'm brand new to charting and temping. Any advice or tips? I'm also currently reading TCOYF too!
  • Hi, @gingermama29, nice to see you active here! Yes, this is the prefect place to post. I am not too familiar with the fine details of PCOS so will let others chime in. There are many people who can assist you with the best tricks and tips.
  • @gingermama29. Yes, I think I've heard that opks can be tough with pcos.  Temping is always great to confirm O because you should see a sustained shift in temps, or else see if its annovulatory, which can also happen.  I always just used a cheapo bbt from cvs,  but you can get them at any pharmacy or online.  A lot of people used the Mabis, but I'm not sure what is the current darling lol

I do recommend using the FF ap for inputting temps and symptoms.  VIP will give you more information to input and analyze, but it's not necessary.  If you do go VIP, just keep an eye out for when they may be running a special on insta or fb or whatever.  When I was actively ttc, I used to love the VIP features!

@gingermama29 I think you can still do OPKs in conjunction with temping. I don’t have a PCOS diagnosis, but I do tend to have a couple of LH surges and OPKs are often close to positive for me, but I do eventually get a strong positive (or three). Get the cheapies if you do use them. I know some women like the CBAD ones, but I’m not sure how well they work with PCOS. Do you ever feel ovulation pain that you can differentiate from cysts? Checking CM and CP works for a lot of women.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

@BusinessWife and @NYTino24 thank you ladies! I appreciate the insight and advice! 😊 I did download FF and am using it daily to record my temp and CF. I'm excited to start getting more insight into my cycle. @NYTino24, I generally don't notice ovulation pain, but I also don't typically get painful cysts.

    Edited for clarity
  • alright trigger shot ladies - is it normal for the spot to be pretty tender the next day? it feels like a painful little bump under my skin where I did the shot

  • @chichiphin Yes, mine was sensitive the following day. I don't remember a bump, but I could definitely feel where I'd had the injection.
  • @ruby696 it's like a little knot... almost like a bruise? if it still is painful tomorrow during my IUI I'll let them know. I just want to make sure it isn't abnormal.

  • @chichiphin. it can be 100% normal, but just let them take a look when you are there for peace of mind. ;)
  • Lol to all this potty talk😂

@chichiphin I do stomach injections with blood thinners & the bruise and/or knot under the skin happen sometimes. It’s totally normal. It will go away (after 3-7 days maybe?) Hope they will check it out at your appointment & give you more peace of mind!
  • Anybody else using Advanced ClearBlue Digital? I did for the first time this cycle and I got exactly zero "High" readings. I got an empty circle this am and then a solid smiley just now.

I'm feeling like a total dumdum because we haven't HIO in several days for various reasons and also because I thought it wasn't my FW yet with the "low" readings. Ugh...
  • How long had you been / when did you start using them?  Just since this morning?  I think you need to start those early enough to give it a baseline.  So if you only took it two times and it went straight to solid smiley, there's not enough to compare and get a flashing smiley.  I had that happen when I Od earlier than expected.  I had to start as soon as AF left the building, even if just with cheapies first just to see if anything was remotely going on, then switch to the cbads.

Also the cbads are different than other opks like the cheapies, in that you do actually just take it once a day with FMU.  @jennifer_louise. I wonder if that might be messing with it too.  What CD are you today?  CS???

@jennifer_louise I use advanced CB digits and that happened to me this cycle! I am now on 15 dpo with a usually LP length of 12 and lots of BFNs, so I'm guessing it wasnt even right 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think I took a couple with SMU so I think I messed up my "baseline" so then it maybe identified my "surge" prematurely? That's only a guess though. Also @BusinessWife is correct that the directions do say to take only one a day with FMU so that could be the case with you that if you PM urine is higher in concentration its identifying it early? If you have cheapies I would maybe start using those to double check.
FWIW, when I was previously temping and using them it was always right on that I got my solid smiley the day before O (confirmed by BBT) when I used them with FMU. My days of high readings varied from 1-6.
Me: 31 DH: 34  Married: April 2016
    TTC December 2016
    BFP 2/28/17 // CP 3/1/17
    MFI Diagnosis: Aug 2017
    BFP 11/1/17 // DS born 6/18
    TTC January 2019
    BFP 3/21/19 // D&C (MMC) 5/8/19
  • If I would have followed instructions I would have gotten my solid smiley this am with FMU (I suppose) so maybe we can still somewhat salvage this.
  • @jennifer_louise are you being monitored this cycle?

  • another IUI related Q: I assume it is normal to have mild uterine cramping the day of an IUI? it isn't painful, just tight and crampy - different than period cramps.

  • @chichiphin Yes, I believe that’s normal. Anytime the docs put anything into your cervical canal or uterus there’s a chance of cramping.
  • I’ve got an IUI question too: is it ok to just HIO all the days before & after an IUI? I know it’s encouraged after, but not sure about before (no sperm analysis needed this time). Thanks!
  • @keikilove thanks! we HIO 3 days before for a PCT, told NOT have MH ejaculate 2 days prior and now we have to HIO tonight. As my doc said - after an IUI it can't hurt and can only help

  • And SO MANY good thoughts sent your way for a successful IUI! @chichiphin
