I got spoiled on the ending (I'm terrible at waiting) so I knew what was coming, but I was still so sad. I loved loved loved the new characters, and overall was very impressed that the quality of the show was still so high. I also thought this monster was as scary as season 1 (season 2 didn't feel as scary to me).

@bluetickgal I was JUST talking about a very similar thing in the TWW! DH nor I like horror, but I(/we) can do scary when it's not set in reality--and ST is clearly sci-fi. MH & I have watched S1 & S2 together, but I don't know if he wants to finish S3--we're only 5 episodes in--so I am trying to figure out if it's scarier than usual OR if he is just being weird. Anyway, I hope you don't run into a similar problem & I'm wrong about S3 being "Scarier Than Usual"--just don't tell YH I said that haha.

ETA: couldn't let verb tense problem be.
  • @kagesstarshroom yes, that’s the same for us...although I jump like crazy, I like the suspense! Neither of us really like gore, but like you said, it’s different knowing ST is sci-fi and not reality! Haha, I won’t mention a word that this season may be scarier...he hates stopping something after he starts, so he’ll be stuck by then! 😂
  • @kagesstarshroom I can vouch that this season is definitely scarier than last season, although I do think Season 1 is the most scary. I had insane (scary) dreams after we watched S1 (it didn't help that we binged the first like 5-6 episodes until 4am on the first day, then went to sleep and I had nightmares, woke up and finished the series. I then took a nap and had serious nightmares.) Luckily no nightmares since, and S3 didn't bother me. I'm a former horror wimp who is starting to appreciate it more.

  • @mvt2003 I can do like--horror for the sake of art/excellent storytelling? Ex. 28 Days Later or Let the Right One In--both of those are so good! I can't do any "we are pretending this is real life" horror like Paranormal Activity (NOPE) and even campy horror (Evil Dead?) I'm just like--why. We watched a LOT of old horror as kids (all the Amnityvilles and Candymans), and like-- I just don't want to watch them again? I don't have any examples of TV shows since I really shy away from them. Anyway, thanks for confirming S3 is scarier! I feel like S1 was scary bc it was new/different, and this season is scary bc I am so attached to the characters at this point I don't want anything bad to happen to them? They killed freakin Barb in S1 w/out realizing how much the audience was into her and Joyce's BF in S2, so I don't know how/who might be toast this season. I feel like the last episodes of S2 were the scariest, and the season as a whole was not as scary? Anyway, I'll chime back in when we (or I!) are/am finished!

@bluetickgal haha good move. I am totally in the "now we started, now we must finish" camp--but DH doesn't care as much. I just... WANT to watch it with him bc we started it together! He's made it this far... ::pouts::
  • @kagesstarshroom hopefully he’ll finish it with you! And my DH always comments about Barb getting the shaft...it’s like they killed her off early and then didn’t talk about her again until Season 2, when they decided to all of the sudden make it a big deal to Nancy!
  • @kagesstarshroom You hit the nail EXACTLY on the head of why S1 was so scary, and agreed that I am so much more invested in these characters this season now. I think for me, I missed all of the old horror as a kid (I was too scared, so I never watched them, the only thing I ever watched was Scream) so now I'm catching up on the movies. I don't really love horror TV (American Horror Story doesn't do it for me), so movies are kind of it for me. I loved the new IT, for example. I felt like that was very well done.

  • We are on episode 3 of season 3 and it's definitely scarier than the previous seasons! I love this show so much because it makes me nostalgic about my own childhood minus the frightening creature from the upside down, of course.😂

  • DH and I started watching S3 of Stranger Things when we were visiting my parents for the 4th. Got through 2 episodes. We then watched episode 3 Friday night after getting back home. We spent Saturday finishing up packing and other house things while periodically binging a few episodes at a time. We finished the season at 11:30 Saturday night and I got up at 3:45 the next morning so that we could get ready and pack up the car to leave at 6am.

I was like, I am not leaving for vacation with 1 episode left to watch!! Turns out none in DH's family has watched it so it's not like they would have spoiled it for us. Still glad I stayed up lol

  • @inthewoods23 I keep worrying I am going to see a spoiler via twitter! But it's ANW night!

In case anyone needs to win an argument on the internet this week about how the USWNT should be paid as much (more?!) than the men's, this article on how they generated more revenue over the past three years is a good weapon. Not that they need to have done so to be paid equally, but shuts people up who think so.

  • @kagesstarshroom Women making less than men is so systematic. I was at a work event last week, brought my husband and they kept assuming he was the employee. I work in finance, so total sausage fest. I was often the only woman in the room during breakout groups.

  • @whatsbumpinpumpkin @kagesstarshroom Engineer here, so sausage fests are the story of my life. I'm very lucky to work for an amazing company that celebrates diversity and equality, though.
