Our DJ didn't have our first-dance song prepped by the time we were on the dance floor for it, and I was freaking out bc I don't like being the center of attention in the way that getting married puts you in the spotlight. (I am great in front of a crowd when I am performing--like, when I have my notes in front of me and everything is in my control, but when the crowd is literally everyone special to you there to celebrate YOU... I was a nervous wreck.) Anyway, DH picked up up and spun me around while we were waiting--like, feet off the floor, flying through the air-- this didn't calm me down haha, but then the music started and we danced, and I don't remember that as well, so I am glad he did it.
Speaking of all my anxieties, after we got back to the hotel, I bawled for like 10 minutes nonstop. DH was confounded. I was like, "I'm fine, I'm fine!" Also pretty memorable lol--but something I like to tell brides-to-be, so if they have the same reaction they know they're not alone. I was fine after a good cry--met w/ people at a bar, played blackjack w/ my Dad and one of my friends for awhile, & then we left for our roadtrip honeymoon the next morning, happy as could be.
Good memorable- seeing DH for our first look and getting to spend our only alone time of the day together. Also, we kind of stole a frozen burrito from the sundry shop at the hotel when we got back. Bad memorable- my one bridesmaid getting wasted, saying something to me about not being MOH, and barfing on the floor during the reception. Classsssssy.
So I'm Jewish and DH is not, so we incorporated things from both faiths. I really want the hora dance - the one where we're lifted up on chairs and everyone dances in a circle around us. So, I was all cool and excited about it till I was up. I was terrified and thought I was gonna be dropped!
My parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at their house. We had a bunch of sidewalk chalk out because there were lots of kids and we thought it'd be a good activity. It turns out, there was some incredible chalk talent from our attendees and by the end of the night the whole driveway was an amazing and colorful mosaic! It was so unexpected and memorable for us.
My favorite memory was walking down the aisle and seeing all our family and friends, and of course DH waiting for me at the front.
Most interesting memory: My MOH gained probably 20+ pounds between when they ordered their dresses and when the dresses arrived at the shop. She wanted to try and lose the weight, so she didn't order a new one or try to get it altered. Every kind of shapewear, it was still too tight. Right before the wedding started, the zipper broke and split right up the back! Her bf ran to the CVS around the corner, bought a sewing kit, and sewed her into the dress in the back of the church. I didn't know any of this until after the ceremony (during which she nearly fainted because she could barely breathe in the dress).
TBH though, nothing could have bothered me that day, I was just happy to be marrying the love of my life.
This is a great GTKY, fun! We didn’t know what to expect from our ceremony: we didn’t do a rehearsal & all I’d told our officiant in advance is that we wanted it to feel inclusive & also somehow honor our parents who have passed. He did a traditional native ceremony, asking people who felt so called to come up & sip a sacred ceremonial drink, then share whatever blessing or memory of the couple that they felt moved to share. Many people came forward, describing beautiful memories of our parents, or our childhood friendships, or how they’ve seen us grow & embody our parents’ traits in us—lots of laughter & tears. It ended up lasting one hour. That ceremony was absolutely beautiful & more than anything I’d imagined.
@b_1029 yeah it was cool! Obviously most of the drawings were random adorable kids' ones (like sharks, taco monsters, etc) but some were obviously done by talented adults! And I wish I had a bit of drama like you, but I guess my wedding party was just too well-behaved lol.
the night before my wedding at the rehearsal dinner (Halloween) it snowed it was very magical to see the snow fall outside of the restaurant and bar.
the day of my wedding I fell down the stairs during our sword arch, but got amazing pics from it.
the night of my wedding (sat of Halloween weekend) me and my guests got in an altercation with some drunk college girls at the college bar and got them thrown out after they threw drinks on us hahaha
Limo ride from where we had the religious ceremony going over to the reception/dinner. It was sunset and the sky was all kinds of beautiful colors. Holding hands with our newly placed wedding rings. It was just a super romantic perfect moment.

@keikilove Your ceremony explanation legit made me tear up.
@chichiphin I'd expect no less from you than your most memorable moments.
@emeraldduchess OMG yr MOH SMH. So many abbrevs. Also: yes to nothing really bothering you that day. I say that a lot to ppl-- that yeah, a few things went "wrong," but in the end, that's not what matters at all & will only be the stuff you remember if you dwell on it! There were things that happened at my wedding that weren't great that people shielded me from, & I am glad to know about them (I love a good grudge--) NOW, but glad that I didn't on that day. But even if I had, there's this, like Bride Power you have to just accept things & be happy that you get to celebrate your love.
@b_1029 I ALWAYSSSS recommend a First Look to people. It made us both so much calmer (& we got ALLLL of our best pics that way, since it was before the ceremony. People weren't, like, waiting around for us while we were off taking photos, so we could take our time. Also, our photographer is.... one of the best wedding photographers, ever, IMO, so he needs some credit for the great pix--)
@Kathryn0903 haha oh man, I always love a good hora dance at a wedding! I've been to a good number of those--what a great/awesome tradition. Is it maybe... supposed to be terrifying? Like, both fun and terrifying at the same time?
Cue Space Cowboy by N*SYNC, my SIL slid him one of the chairs from the tables, he does a short chair lap dance, I sit down and stick my leg out.
He had told me he didn't want to go under my dress as he thought it was tacky but HE WENT FOR IT AND I DIED OF LAUGHTER IN THE CHAIR. There's a couple pictures of me, head straight back from laughing so hard! Best garter dance ever.

We did a Scottish "loving cup" ceremony, and had been talking about doing wine or juice in the "cup" because ... you know doing shots while saying your vows is kinda weird. He is a first generation American, his mother came over for college and met his father, and never left. His mom thought it was the best thing ever to see him in a kilt again! Guess who put scotch in the cup? Then after three shots.. we did the first kiss. Then guess who totally fell off her 4 inch heels, three shots in? This girl. Luckily he caught me! Picture from the ceremony in the spoiler!
Memorable in a good way, was our farm to table dinner, and flowers from the farmer's market vendor we met at. We still hear from friends and family how good the food was - all locally sourced!
@whatsbumpinpumpkin I LOVE everything about your memory! Falling off your heels after drinking scotch, the food & flowers from where you met= perfection.
@emeraldduchess The last time I was a bridesmaid my zipper broke. I think it was just made badly. DH had to use some extra material on the dress to tie around and hold the dress up. Didn’t think to have him see me in it, but we made it work.
@mercury94 re: formatting .... If I start typing right away, I keep having to edit to add spacing, but if I wait (forever) until a page is fully loaded, it isn't like that. I can tell the page is ready bc the box is no longer yellow AND the B / I / S etc. formatting bar across the top appears. If you're mobile, not sure what the signs are. I am usually impatient though and just start typing and then have to format. // Also, omg mom, yikes haha.
My favorite: (it’s been eleven years and a few things still stick out!)
1. When we were exchanging rings, my hand was sort of sweaty and DH had trouble getting the ring on. We both started giggling nervously, and the minister started laughing too. He finally got it on, and we kind of giggled through the rest of the service.
2. When we first walked out of the church together, it was a few moments before anyone else caught up outside - DH and I got to our car, looked at each other and both sort of squealed! Then all of the sudden everyone else was there cheering and hugging. It was amazing!
I love hearing wedding stories so this has been a fun thread to read...everyone has such a unique experience! The most memorable part was probably our first look, it calmed me seeing him and knowing that in a matter of hours, he would be my husband! Memorable in a not so good way, a torrential downpour came about 30 minutes before our outdoor ceremony...I think everyone thought I’d be stressed, but all I wanted to do was get married! It honestly didn’t matter to me if it was outside or in our back-up space indoors at that point! The photographer got a shot of DH and the groomsmen carrying the arbor back inside during a break in the rain, I love that photo...a lot of people worked together to get the indoor space set up quickly, and it was perfect!
@kagesstarshroom regarding your crying, I get it. I got really emotional leading up to the wedding. It was weird to think about how my life was going to be different forever. Hubby totally understood that I wasn’t questioning what I was doing; I just needed to process the changes in advance. My mom did NOT get it though, and told me very clearly that she hadn’t felt that way and then looked super worried. It’s just reminds me how I’m glad I found the person who really gets me.
@b_1029 lol, how do you kind of steal a burrito? We kind of stole slurpees because we used the wrong cups, but the cashier ok’Ed it being on the house since I was in my bridal gown. The rest of our party used the right cups though!
@emeraldduchess one of my bridesmaids def ordered her dress too small too. It would NOT zipper. She felt terrible, and I felt terrible. I told her that she could do whatever felt best, so she ended up with a little sweater over top...in July...but I don’t think anyone beyond the bridesmaids and photographers knew. She ended up needing to be cut out of it at the end of the night. Ahh, I still feel so bad about her being in that situation, but I’m so glad it didn’t keep her from having a fun time and hanging out through the after reception hotel bar time!
There are so many cool pieces to all these different styles of weddings! I love those unique touches!
Afm, my anniversary is on Thursday, and it’ll be 4 years, so a lot of it feels fresh. The memory I recently mentioned to my hubby was about the wedding night. I asked him to help me take out the million bobby-pins and such out of my hair because it was taking me too long doing it solo, and he ended up cutting my hair out of a couple mini hair ties. I thought he was joking when he said “hold on I’ll get my scissors.” Nope. It was minimal, I guess, but it didn’t look like a small lock of hair to me when I turned around to look at him when I realized that he wasn’t joking. Bam, marriage. 😂
@begging4abump we came back to the hotel tipsy and I’m the worst drunk eater ever so I decided we needed said burrito. We waited in line at the reception desk while the person was helping someone else. No one was paying attention to us and we stood there for several minutes. Finally we just looked at each other, shrugged, and booked it to the elevators.
