  • @inthewoods23 Noooo! That is crazy. 250,000 people don’t give a f about their baby’s sex. Why would anyone think this is a good idea?

  • And even if they don't call attention to it, like they just set off the gender reveal fireworks and move on, it's still just weird.

Public proposals... Fine. But public gender reveal? No, just no.

@dpchickens 😱 that’s awful! Hope there isn’t too much damage.

  • @dpchickens That suuuucks!  Did they exchange info with you, at least?  On the bright side, at least you're not at fault!  That would make for a worse Monday, right?

  • @mercury94 (from the 1st Tri announcements thread) omg the tax dollars!! I hope you're not right about that because I know LOTS of people don't even like the concept of gender reveals and I'm sure in a crowd of 250,000 there will be plenty of people who fall into that category.

@inthewoods23 I just work for a local government and know how angry people get about anything that might be paid for with tax dollars.

ETA: literally anything, even if it’s good for the community, will piss someone off.

@inthewoods23 Also, if it’s true that pink and blue fireworks are harder to make, I can just see the headline about the extra cost to taxpayers. Even 15 extra cents might cause a scandal in some cities.

  • @dpchickens Sorry about the stupid driver. That sucks and is just the most Monday thing to ever happen.

@shamrocandroll I hate any time I’m forced to watch a video of myself. It is the worst. Glad yours wasn’t too bad. Maybe you can convince them to remove the one unflattering shot.

@b_1029 I got a ton of OPKs from a relative and I was super excited until I realized they’d been expired for months. I did use them along with others and I think they were still okay.

  • @mercury94 maybe harder isn't the right word... More expensive is really what it is. Magnesium burns green which I think is fairly cheap. A rarer metal that burns purple or blue would be more costly to put into a firework. I'm not sure if stability is a factor either.

I didn't look up costs to see how much more expensive it really would be, but people are going to notice a firework of an unusual color.

@inthewoods23 that post is so annoying. good grief. I cannot even imagine going to those lengths for a reveal. It’s just absurd to me.
  • @bows22 the initial way it was said made it sound much more publicly done than it probably will be (with the whole with 250,000 people part), but people are going to see it regardless. I live in a mid-sized town and people show up like an hour before the show starts. A show with that size audience is going to have people probably camping out half the day for seats.

I'm also just feeling very bitter lately.

We probably scared the OP away though 😅 oops

@inthewoods23 I know, I feel bad now that I saw her latest reply. The other poster coming in with her 2 cents on you posting about it here made me mad but that wasn’t the OPs fault
  • @tyrion_ people are entitled to their happiness though after having so much heartbreak dealing with IF or MCs.

Some people spend thousands of dollars to get PG visiting doctors trying to figure out what's wrong, waiting month after month for test results, going through surgeries and procedures while others have never even had a hint of worry about conceiving (aka the Unicorns). And there are probably people out there who have never bought a BBT or OPKs or even know what those are!

PGs after IF and MCs are well deserved.

  • @inthewoods23 I definitely think people are entitled to their happiness. I was more irritated with the non-op comments. I definitely softened on my stance after reading her explanation and rationale.

  • @whitealbum29 from a business standpoint it makes sense. Companies purchase the product from the manufacturer and when they near expiration they'll discount them so that they go out the door before the stuff that doesn't expire for a while. Helps rotate stock more properly. But yeah, sometimes it can suck for the consumer.

Grocery stores near me do this with the fresh meat. If the sell by date is in the next day or 2 they discount it by 20% to get people to buy it. I'll purchase that if it's something I planned on making that night.

  • @inthewoods23 oh I was thinking she bought them recently and they were ALREADY expired when she bought them! Just reread her post and yeah that makes much more sense. I'm clearly looking for a fight with a drugstore today :D:D
  • @dpchickens I've never had a MC and that's honestly the first thing I thought of, how hard that would be to see in public. The reveal may be somewhat discrete, but in a crowd that large, you don't know who's around you and what they're dealing with. Someone is going to see it.

And plus also, I've never heard of anyone doing a gender reveal in a public space like that? Maaaybe at a park on a non-holiday, but otherwise they're always at someone's house. I get doing proposals in public places since it could be where the first date was, where they first said "I love you" or whatever, but with gender reveals it just doesn't make sense to do it that way.

  • inthewoods23  I've been at Disney where after the fireworks show I legit saw 5 proposals one night.  It was public, BUT it did not stop MY night and I did not have to stand there and watch the proposals.  They did their thing and I did mine. It's more the public EVERYONE MUST WATCH ME AND STOP WHAT THEY"RE DOING proposals and whatnot that irk me.
