  • @Tulips29 Im jealous that you are just now getting hungry all the time, I’ve been starving since 5 weeks! My pants are already tight because all I want to eat is carbs :(

    • How far along/EDD? 6w2d
    • How are you feeling this week? Starving and nauseous. Being hungry makes me feel sick and eating makes me feel sick! Haha.
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? None
    • Any upcoming appointments? Wednesday we have our first US! Soooo anxious to hear a heartbeat and see how many took!
    • GTKY: what’s your favorite summer memory as a child? My mom used to do “free fridays” with us on summer break. We could each invite a friend to come with. There was a refuge for exotic animals near us with giraffes, monkeys, and lots of birds and miniature horses running around.....I’m pretty sure we chose to go there most fridays! Haha.

  • @PoeMasque To be fair, all I want is carbs too, so I'm in the same boat with you. I've been on keto for a while until now but my doc said I couldn't really continue keto with the pregnancy and to ease back into good carbs. That went out the window with the first bagel I had! Good luck at your appointment on Wednesday. I assume you transferred more than 1?

  • @Tulips29 yeah, it’s never easy or satisfying to go for the good carbs hahaha. All I want is ramen lately, so far I’ve held off, but it’s getting harder to resist! We transferred 2 (same as last time), thinking that at my age with non-PGS tester embryos we would be lucky to have one stick, but now we are really scared of there being two!

  • @Tulips29 after telling the nurse “we are hoping for just one”, she very very calmly goes.....”well....there’s baby A....and baby B”. Both heartbeats were 110, which she said was really good for this early. We were both pretty upset at first (I am very familiar with all of the risks of multiples and we are not sure how we will pay for daycare!), but we knew twins were a possibility and we can make it work. We’ve decided to be excited about it and just take things as they come. Next scan isn’t until July 10!! Which seems way too long to wait :(

  • Awww @PoeMasque I know it was a shock at first and I can understanding feeling upset because it's not something you expected. But I'm glad you're now feeling excited. Twins are scary I'm sure, but it is exciting! There will always be obstacles but take it day by day now and things will fall into place. Do you know the genders you transferred? My next appt is July 3rd for NIPT and I believe they will also do the harmony blood test so we can find out the gender

  • @Tulips29 we didn’t test the embryos (which is why we felt fine transferring two - odds were good only one would make it at my age), so we don’t know gender and now will have to wait until anatomy scan to find out. July 3rd is so close! I think they said it would take 3 weeks for harmony results for us last time, but they called in 3 days, so hopefully you will know gender soon!

    • How are you feeling this week? A little nausea but only when I haven't eaten. I could eat everything in sight now!
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? Waiting, waiting, waiting...
    • Any upcoming appointments? Our RE doesn't graduate us until 11 weeks. Had two ultrasounds already, second one was 7W+2 and we heard the heartbeat! 145 BPM! Next ultrasound is 7/1 and then again 2 weeks later.
    • GTKY: Sitting around the campfire, camping around Michigan!
  • @mbradfo2 our US was with the nurse and I could tell she was really excited, but was trying to be cautious because she knew we were hoping it wasn’t twins. It was almost as if she was trying to find something wrong for us, but she just kept saying “everything looks exactly how we would expect this early with twins” (almost apologetically haha). I used to work with high risk parents of multiples, so I have intimate experience with all of the worst case scenarios which is why I’m so scared of two. I have to remember I saw the cases that didn’t go well and there are plenty that are fine. I will have to see a specialist my entire pregnancy, but other than that I don’t think there’s anything extra, even at my age.

Please don’t kick me out y’all 😂 I think there are only two of us 2nd tri mamas in the group.

    •How far along/EDD - 16w1d Due 12/5

•How are you feeling? - My spotting has stopped for now, I’m hoping it won’t come back but I’m not holding my breath. Feeling great otherwise!

•Rants/Raves? Questions? - I’m officially feeling short of breath when lying on my back so I guess that’s over with lol

•Upcoming appointments - 6/28 NEXT FRIDAY for the gender!!!!

•GTKY What’s your favorite summer memory as a child? My birthday is 7/3 and my dad always shot off a huge amount of fireworks that night vs the 4th. He’s not with us anymore but my husband does a good job of keeping the tradition alive.

@PoeMasque Wow I bet you were shocked! When they told me it was twins I had the same reaction, more nervous and slightly upset than happy even though I knew the chances were pretty good both embryos would take.

@ellis1983 I can’t believe we’re to the point of anatomy scans and gender scans. July will be a fun month for us!

@Tulips29 Yes. It will be the big fireworks show! Lucky enough to have a long time childhood friend that puts the show on.

First timer here, not sure what you guys meant by harmony test and googled it. Our NIPT is July 15th. We did PGS so we already have an envelope with the gender inside. It's on the fridge and very hard to not open it, lol! We give it to the fireworks guy tonight so no more temptation, at least. Anyone else do PGS? Does this test find things they couldn't during PGS? I guess we need to ask more questions at the REs office. I feel like we ask them too much sometimes...ha!
  • @jolo1241 we had PGS testing and our RE still recommend NIPT, but I was also 35 so it was covered by insurance. I’m 36 weeks now and we still have our sealed envelope-we are enjoying being team green.
  • @ellis1983 @k_mama91 I’m so jealous y’all are already to anatomy/gender scans! I knew there’d be no finding out gender early with twins and I am the most impatient human alive! What are you guys hoping for/thinking you are having?? Also - when did your nausea get really bad? I had zero nausea with my son, but have had off and on queasiness since 4.5 weeks this time...haven’t thrown up, but I’m assuming it gets worse with twins? I already had to tell work because of the nausea and the random crying (ugh! Embarrassing!), thankfully they were super supportive!

  • @PoeMasque Glad they were supportive! Crying randomly here too. Mild uneasy stomach but only threw up a few times so far. Started about 5 weeks. We're hoping for different genders in our house. One wants a boy, the other a girl. With PGS we were told we could choose. We didn't want to pick, we told them to put the best embryo in.
  • hi @k_mama91! I'm surprised there's not more activity on the 2nd tri! Of course you can join us here.

@jolo1241 we did PGS testing as well, but my OB is still doing all the regular pregnancy tests, which I appreciate. We did decline the amnio testing, that's the one where they stick a big needle in the belly and take some tissues (I think) and test. He didn't feel it's necessary and this test can be risky to the baby, so we declined.

@PoeMasque CONGRATS!!! I too was really scared when we first learned we were having twins. I knew all the risks and complications, it took a few weeks but then the excitement started to take over. Every pregnancy is different, but my last singleton pregnancy was WAY harder than my twin pregnancy. Once you get through the first tri stuff drinking lots of water and eating a TON of protein is important to help them both grow. I hope you have a very uneventful pregnancy. Feel free to PM me any time.

  • @jolo1241 I am SO jealous of your gender reveal!! We’ll be at the beach for the 4th and there is no way I could carry an envelope with that information for an extra week!

@PoeMasque *TW we found out at our second scan that our twin A had stopped growing. We were told it was common and wouldn’t be a risk to our baby B End TW* So that being said, I have very little experience but compared to my singleton pregnancy, I had no different symptoms. No nausea or migraines or crazy issues. Some people say twins is twice the symptoms but others say the opposite. Our bodies are amazing like that!

@blackhottamales I wish I had your willpower. It would be so fun to be team green!
  • @Tulips29 I saw your post about Mexico. Have you decided what to do?
  • @k_mama91 yes, we cancelled that trip. It was the right thing to do in the end and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I just kept telling myself that all it takes is 1 mosquito. Not worth it after all we went through to get here.

@k_mama91 oh no! I’m so sorry I didn’t realize you lost one. Was there any indication at the initial scan? I sort of expected there to be one baby with a slow heart rate at our scan, a sign that it likely wouldn’t make it, but the nurse said both heartbeats were perfect. However, I am a little skeptical that there will still be two growing at our scan in 3 weeks....I just can’t believe that - at my age - both embryos will make it all the way.

  • @PoeMasque
I was in the same boat as @k_mama91 -- both our twins had good HB's at the first scan (111 and 120 at 7 weeks), but twin B stopped developing at the next. No indication except that B was a day or two behind A at the first scan, but the RE said that wasn't a big deal. Having a vanishing twin is a really complex experience and I hope you don't need to go down that road :-)

@Tulips29 I read your posts about Mexico. I think you made a right choice. It’s better safe than sorry. I and my husband canceled our trip to Jamaica. They told us that they can’t reimburse the money for flight, but my husband called the airline and told our story about IF and the reason we are canceling and they gave our money back
@k_mama91 I’m in 2nd trimester too. But the thread died down because there were not enough participants
  • @PoeMasque No true indication. Baby A was a day ahead and had a slightly faster HR, like 5 beats faster, which was all normal and to be expected. Oddly enough it wasn’t our baby B that pulled through. These things just happen I guess. Like @mbradfo2 I hope you don’t have to go down that path and have a healthy double pregnancy!
  • Thanks @mbradfo2 and @k_mama91 i know this sounds awful, but we will be ok if one doesn’t make it. We really didn’t expect both would take and aren’t sure how we will manage a 2 year old and two newborns. I know we can do it, but I know how incredibly hard it will be. I’m also wrestling with some feelings of guilt around how much attention twins will take away from our son. It’s all so complicated!

@Tulips29 sounds like the right call about Mexico. I don’t know about you, but I would be be so worried about mosquitos that I wouldn’t be able to relax if I went!

  • @PoeMasque I can sympathize, I think those feelings are totally normal. I’m sure you will rock it as a twin mom though 😊
  • @poemasque MoM's can do ANYTHING!!! My biggest advice is to set your expectations low in those early days... ie it is a TOTAL win if you and the babies are are fed and have clean diapers.... anything above and beyond that is a bonus. The house will be a mess and that is ok. Getting on a schedule will also be key...  as for going out though it feels daunting in those earlier days when they are still fairly sleepy its not so bad... picking BF friendly locations or ones where you can let #1 run around a bit  while only having to keep 1/2 an eye on them is helpful. A post partum doula might be helpful or just getting someone to come and play with #1 so they have one on one time while you tackle the twins. I'm happy to answer any questions that come up. Oh and prepare DH, twins are a team sport... you'll both be getting up at night, but there is something wonderful in having your partner in crime at your side doing it with you.

  • @wabash15 our state (Oregon) is passing some legislation that will offer a home visiting nurse to all families with new babies - this is actually the job I used to do and I’m hoping it means I would be able to get one of my old co-workers assigned to us postpartum for an hour or two per month. Some of them will come anyway, but it would be great if they got paid to do it and on a regular basis! I’m already gathering the troops for help in the early days and I have about 4 friends who are all due within a month of us (all of them already have kids) so there will be lots of other barely making it moms for me to hang out with on leave. How did you get DH to actually wake up at night?!? Mine can literally sleep through anything! It’s more effort to wake him up than it is to just take care of our kiddo myself haha!

  • @PoeMasque a swift kick in the butt ;) its one thing if its one kiddo.... but with two, trying to keep them on a schedule having 2 really  helps... he would change diapers and i would BF or get bottles ready or a combination of both and then he would help get the kiddos back in their bassinet.

@PoeMasque I have all the faith in your abilities to survive multiples, I had a very smooth easy pregnancy at 38 with the twins till right at the end, so long as those embryos are normal I pray/hope your body will carry those babies fine. I can count on one hand how often I was sick with morning sickness. In fact right up until 32 weeks my pregnancy was completely smooth and relatively easy (gestational hypertension). After the 10 week results came back normal (and told us at least one was a boy) we settled into the full reality that the twins were going to happen.

I'm in the waiting stages/referral arrangements to try for pregnancy #2 so I'll be dealing with the opposite situation to you hopefully, just 3 mo or so later. I have reservations but its either now or never.

I'm adding to @wabash15 on the partner help, the cleaning. If you KNOW that your husband won't be able to be that person all the time, perhaps a night nurse to help every other week? or for a week a month? I know being in Oregon your state offers more extra help than Texas(eyeroll to our state govt), plan to take every advantage possible. One thing I'd recommend is a health savings account if you don't have one. Having one right now is helping a lot, we never see the money in our paychecks so we don't miss it and it sure came in handy with the recent ER bill for our son.

  • @stella_700 thank you! And good luck as you start the journey again, you are very brave! If we’d had twins on the first go that would have been it for us!

Also - thank you for the ideas. Where do you find a night nurse? Would that be a care.com thing? Last time DH and I took 6 hour shifts (6pm-midnight and midnight - 6am) and it worked really well, even when he went back to work. That probably won’t work with two though. We do have a HSA as well as a FSA for daycare. We’ve been double covered with health insurance, but my husband’s plan changed and I think it will be better to just put that monthly premium in savings instead.

If both babies stick stick it out I will definitely be bugging you and @wabash15 about strollers, car seats, BF two, and all that other logistical stuff that I’m forcing myself to not stress about yet.....

  • @poemasque you can also look for postpartum doulas, they will help care for the babies, or do light house work or cooking or play with a sibling.
