Re: Healthy Habits Check-in w/o 6/17

  • I haven't posted here in a while  :s but I'm back!!

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Oh just the usual... getting in my 5 days of work outs, eating low-carb, drinking plenty of water...etc!

How's everything going? I've a great last few weeks of keeping up with my workout routines and I've seen some improvement!  Last week was a little rough with work travel and all but I was able to get a few days in.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? I made good and healthy(ish) choices with eating out while traveling last week, so I'm proud of myself for that!

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? The kind we've been having lately!  Warm days with sunshine

  • @kpearse99 Glad you are back! I have also been trying to eat lo-carb--why is it so hard! DH thought he was gluten intolerant a couple of months ago (he is not), so we have all these alternative flours, and I spent some time yesterday researching their glycemic index-- most of them are only slightly better than all-purpose, but I still try to feel "better" about eating whatever I made with them than I would feel about regular flour. Sigh.

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Drinking enough water, getting in a daily yoga practice, buying/eating BPA-free, organic, and lo-carb

How's everything going? I feel like for CDs 1-3 and even the end of the cycle before those I let myself too much off the hook for things. I missed yoga the past few days. Lo-carb diet fell off a cliff this weekend, and we've been so broke, there definitely aren't enough fruits and veggies in the house for me to be satisfied.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? I met my water quota all but 2 days last week, and even though haven't done yoga recently, I did manage to get it in 4 out of the 7 days last week.

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? Fall weather--or, when it's cool and crisp but not cold after a long warm/hot spell. It's that "first days of school" weather from my childhood. (First days of school in the south are still boiling hot haha.)

  • b_1029b_1029 member

@kpearse99 sounds like you're doing awesome! What kind of workouts do you do?

@kagesstarshroom do you have any tips on how to make yourself drink more water? I think there was a tip from someone at some point about some app on your phone? I always make myself drink a full water bottle when I exercise (ending at 7 am) and then it'll be lunchtime and I realize I haven't had any since. I guess I just don't get super thirsty?

What healthy habit/s are you working on? I should really be working on everything seeing that now I'm officially the highest weight I've ever been and feel miserable. However, I should probably focus on 1 thing at a time, so right now it's drinking a lot of water (I always forget to at work) and hitting all my Apple watch goals every day.

How's everything going? see above. Feeling heavy and blah. I told DH I'm not eating anything processed other than milk until I go to FL on Saturday. I feel gross.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? Friday I skipped the gym but the weather was beautiful and DH dragged me to a park by our house. We ran a mile together with the dog (most painful mile of my life, so out of running shape) and then DH left the dog and I to go run more. Pup and I ran/walked 3.7 miles! Mostly on the downhills, but still :)

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? Sunny and in the 70's! I'm way more inclined to tackle yard work or open all the windows in our house and clean the sh*t out of it.

  • @b_1029 There is an app--I hope the people that use/recommended it see your question! It's something to do with a plant--Plant Nanny? That might be it! But I have a bottle that is 48 ounces that I fill up in the morning and my goal is to drink the whole thing (Really, it should be more like 64 ounces/more, but I have found that any more sometimes is too much with the other liquids I drink? So I aim for 48 and of course any more is great.) Anyway, having ALL the water I need to drink in ONE container is VERY helpful for me to see my progress throughout the day and make sure I get to it.
  • @b_1029 mostly 30 minute strength training workouts and I tend to focus on my legs (so a lot of squats and lunges) and my arms... as these are the two areas I really want to see improvements as far as toning up go.  I think it's a good idea to pick a few goals to work on instead of trying to tackle everything at once, ya know?  I think it's great you went for a run with YH and your dog - maybe add that into your weekly routine by starting with twice a week and then move that up to 3 times a week?  That's an amazing win that you had there last week!!  I think you'll be surprised at how good you could do by getting some running in 3 times a week, drinking plenty of water (to flush your system out) and making better eating choices!

@kagesstarshroom I love some good crisp fall weather!!

@kpearse99 yes, that's my problem! Every week I'm like ok you're gonna work out 5x, eat healthy, drink a lot of water, and get enough rest. If 2 days go by and I haven't hit those goals, I'm basically like screw it and everything goes to hell haha. I need to learn to tackle it bit by bit especially since I want to try and lose like 10#. Being a woman, I know that'll take like 4 months.... :D
  • @b_1029 it's hard!!  So hard! Especially when you just want to see the results NOW haha  Instead of telling yourself every week that you're going to work out 5x a week, start with 2x a week!  You want something that is going to be achievable and will help you feel accomplished.  Get YH involved too, because he'll make you stick to that goal and seems like he'll go with you!  I actually need to do better at forcing MH to be more active with me, like going for nightly walks at the very least with our dogs.  He's not great in the self-motivation department.

  • @b_1029 @kpearse99 So, I have a Capricorn moon and rising, which makes me LOVE keeping track of things, and one of the ways I've been keeping up on my goals has been that I have a list to check off. My yoga and water checklists are on the same grid as my checklists for taking my PNV and other supplements--it helps bc like, I ALWAYS take my PNV, so I get to put that check in there & then feel like I'm doing SOMETHING. And then I can also SEE what I haven't gotten around to in a few days (like the water or the yoga?) & then be like "okay, I haven't done this the past three days, I need to make a better effort today." Here's a sample (each # at the top corresponds to a goal below & the letters are abbreviations for other things & obvs I set the goals at the beginning of the month.) Sharing in case a similar thing might be helpful! :

  • @kagesstarshroom I remember your charts from a post a month or so back! You are so organized :) I'm like this for work stuff... I love making to-do lists and crossing things off.... If I have completed something that wasn't already on my list, I'll add it just so I can cross it off! hahaha

And... if check-lists don't work... there's always this new bracelet: https://www.boredpanda.com/bracelet-shock-fast-food-spending-money-pavlok/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=lmaomommy&fbclid=IwAR1icIod2uLJfxyCqSGmQG--diNNRHGAusc5SpbBNyeZ0ucJYedpiE2xyBg

@b_1029 You are doing great! Small steps sometimes are the way to go.

@kpearse99 & @kagesstarshroom Great job with the work outs! That is something I really need to add into my routine. I just haven't gotten there yet.

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Elimination diet to help inflammation and digestion, working on getting the curve back in my c-spine

How's everything going? Really well, I am on day 8 of my restricted diet. I think it is helping a bit with my digestion and am down about 1lb. I am about 14lbs away from my lowest adult weight from 2015 and I have probably about 15-25 to lose to be at a good weight for my height and body shape. I also did my denneroll exercise for my neck every evening.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? I made a cashew "Alfredo" with limited ingredients and made a whole roasted chicken for the first time ever. Both came out amazing!

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? For sure when there is natural light that comes in to the house. If it is dark, then I just want to rest.

OK, y'all are inspiring me to get off this app and go for a quick run!

@kpearse99 That is so great that you are able to keep up the fitness even while traveling. Good job!

@b_1029 Sorry that you've had a hard time with the weight lately but YAY for your running & walking with DH & the dog! I used to have your same goals and then fall off sometimes too.  I've found that giving myself some grace, like "Move my body 3-4 times per week" makes me feel more flexible in continuing to meet my more reasonable goals.

@kagesstarshroom Great job on the yoga! You are very ambitious to aim for 7 days, 4 days last week is awesome! So many things you post are relateable, like that chart.  I also love organization and tracking things.  I recently got the Happy Planner fitness insert.  (As you've all heard me say before, I am in love with my Law of Attraction planner but) the Happy Planner has so many great buy-alone insert options for fitness, finances, etc, so I use it for that: to track my workouts & budgeting in those two inserts.  Plus they make it super fun with all kinds of cute stickers so I do that to motivate myself because they look purty.

@m6agua What is this elimination diet that you speak of?  I've been working to make mine healthier but am not ready to do anything extremely restrictive.  Is yours hard to follow?

What healthy habit/s are you working on? I'm trying to start running again.  It makes me feel like my true self but I haven't done it consistently the last few years.  Went running yesterday & walked the hills around our neighborhood, so that was a good 3-mile workout!

How's everything going? It's hard to pull myself up to workout. I lost my Fitbit in the house somewhere a month ago; without seeing my step counter it's a lot easier to sit on my butt & not focus on fitness. What I've started to do is tell myself to just get out there and run one mile, since it takes less than 10 minutes. I'm done before I know it!

What’s a “small win” you have from last week?  Went running several times so that is definitely a win. I feel proud of myself AND it makes me feel amazing.

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive?  Sunny & warm, but not too hot.  (Right now it feels like 98 outside so that is not motivating.  But I'm gonna do it anyway!

  • @keikilove Um, plus one for cool stickers! And the Law of Attraction planner looks a LOT like my passion planner but with, like, more fun/different prompts? Also, I'm very proud of you for your three mile workout! I am decisively NOT a runner, but I know enough people who are to know how good it can make people feel.

@m6agua Glad your elimination diet is going well!

@kpearse99 Haha I knew I'd posted one of my charts in the past. I have been using these checklists that I rewrite every week for my dissertation work bc the VERY ELABORATE other organizational method I'd used last year was just... too much haha, but I'm glad you can relate bc you use similar methods for work!

@kagesstarshroom Yes, I tagged you in another post maybe last week where you mentioned your Passion planner. I was saying how I started w Passion Planner for a couple years & then switched to LoA. Honestly, they’re so similar that I think the LoA guy may have “borrowed” some ideas from the PP girl.  But he got it SO right that I forgive him lol!

Also, I really did just go outside & walk a mile and then run a mile thanks to this thread. It was high noon & im about to pass out. Nope, not gonna do that again!😵
  • @b_1029 @kagesstarshroom Plant Nanny is the water- drinking app I've used in the past, but I knew there are others out there as well.

@keikilove Good for you going for a run, especially in the heat!

@m6agua I agree about natural light. DH always likes the blinds closed. I feel like I live in a cave!

@kpearse99 I agree about starting small to make things a habit. When my goals are too lofty, I just set myself up for failure.

@kagesstarshroom I love checking off lists too! So satisfying!

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Drinking water, walking my dogs

How's everything going? Water is going well. Walking could be better, but it's been really rainy here lately.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? I know I mentioned this elsewhere, but I started going to a chiropractor. I have hypermobile joints and lots of pain issues. I used to be really good about doing weights, but my shoulder started hurting 5 years ago and it has kept me from keeping my strength up, which only makes my joints more unstable. It's a vicious cycle. Anyway, the chiropractor gave me exercises to do in conjunction with his adjustments, so I am going to try to get my shoulder where it needs to be. After just living with my shoulder for all of these years, I am proud of myself for doing something about it.

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? It depends....sometimes rainy weather forces me to do household projects I might put off during nice weather. But in general, I have the most energy when its warm and sunny.

  • m6aguam6agua member
@shoogapoff I'm glad the chiro gave you exercises. I hope it helps!

@keikilove My elimination diet is based off of a food sensitivity test I took last month. I just got the results a week and a half ago. This particular company recommends I cut the sever foods for 6 months, moderate foods for 3 months and limit my mild foods to 2 times per week. So far it hasn't been hard for me. But that is because I've spent the last 5 years really learning a lot about food and cooking. I also attempted the autoimmune paleo elimination diet before without success. I think having the list of foods that I react to is what I ultimately needed. However, if you are looking for a more simple elimination diet to follow I highly recommend Whole30 (you don't eliminate nearly as many foods with this). That is what kick started my food journey in 2014 and it taught me how to read ingredients, it helped me figure out my relationship with food and the emotions I tie to it, it helped me become a better cook and have better knife skills. They offer all of the information you need to do it for free on their website. They have books, there are coaches, and you can pay for things to do the program, but you don't need to if you don't want to.

  • @shoogapoff I also agree that rainy weather can be good for doing stuff around the house! It's calming if you don't have to leave the house.
  • @kagesstarshroom I love the charts!

@kpearse99 I need that bracelet for so many things... ha!

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Losing weight through WW, and increasing activity.

How's everything going? Eh, I overindulged all weekend for my birthday.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? After a massive birthday meal Friday night, I walked in a 5k with my mom Saturday morning. We had to park so far away, that it ended up being about 5 miles total.

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? I like 60s/70s to get outside. I get miserable when it's too hot and tend to avoid being active outside.

What healthy habit/s are you working on?: Eating cleaner by incorporating more fatty fish, leafy greens, whole grains, and consuming less dairy, caffeine, and alcohol. My DH was diagnosed with high cholesterol last month, so part of this is to support his healthy habits, but also to support TTC as well.

How's everything going?:  Good! We tried a new low-cholesterol recipe last night that my DH had pinned on Pinterest, and he LOVED it.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week?: Since we're eating healthier, that means eating more food from home and less fast food, so it's kind of a win-win in terms of saving money. I just hate how quickly fresh produce spoils, especially when there's only the two of us to eat it.

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive?: Hmmmm...I'm not sure that the weather really affects my productivity. I do enjoy Fall weather (cool, rainy) the best. I'd say that the cycle of the moon affects my productivity more. When it's a waxing or full moon, I'm more productive than waning or new moon.

    Me: 37 / DH: 41
Due with baby #2: Feb 2022

  • @ttcbabyodo It has taken me YEARS to master not letting produce spoil in the fridge and also cooking portions of things that we'll actually eat rather than for like 4 people. But I think if I'd just... tried harder and paid attention to these things sooner, I'd have mastered them sooner! But wanted you to know that it's possible. <3 I think using the produce for lunch AND dinner is helpful, and like, throwing whatever looks limp in whatever I am making, even if the recipe doesn't include it, are helpful tips. Like, one of the reasons I always buy kale is... you can put it in literally anything AND it works on its own as a salad. Also, I unabashedly love kale...
  • @kpearse99 - very impressed with your 5 days of workouts!
@b_1029 - yeah someone here recommended an app called Plant Nanny and I've been using it! It helps some. You water a plant every time you drink a set amount of water so that it grows and if you don't, it shrivels up...I killed one last week while on vacation b/c I forgot to log them but started a new one! Totally get how hard it is to stay motivated when you feel like there are so many tasks to accomplish...but small manageable steps are really what makes progress sustainable!
@m6agua - mm cashew alfredo sounds amazing! I had a friend who made a cashew-based Caesar dressing that was really yummy.
@keikilove - that's a great idea to just do a mile/10mins! Certainly enough to get some cardio in and seems manageable. So much of it is just talking our brains into doing stuff!
@ttcbabyodo - agree about fresh fruits and veggies, I can't stand feeling pressure to eat something before it spoils! I just want to eat what I want, not have it be a chore! This week I made a meal plan for both of us for the full week and it seems like it helped with grocery shopping/knowing what we need and getting what we knew we would use.

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Drinking five 17-oz bottles of water per day

How's everything going? Okay...I made it to five yesterday.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? I didn't make it to five on the days I was on vacation last week but did pay attention to drinking water at least...

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? Probably when it starts to get cooler after summer is over...kind of a back to school feeling and I start focusing more on keeping our house presentable all the time b/c we're stuck inside for so much of the winter. In warmer weather I just want to go out and play!

  • @whitealbum29 I always excuse myself from my healthy habits when I'm traveling--it's just impossible! But yeah, keeping them in mind and being conscious of drinking water even if it's not THE amount you are aiming for is key, I think.  Also, our productive-weather is same-sies!
  • Hey ladies, I didn't see a new one of these for this week, but I wanted to check in on this. I had a bit of a struggle 2 cycles ago (REALLY thought it was IT and I was finally KU, so I ate like a jerk during the TWW, gained 5 lbs, and now have to get serious!)

What healthy habit/s are you working on? Tracking my food, WW, and keeping up my 10k training (10k is next week!)

How's everything going? Ok, I had a slip yesterday at work and ate more of my muffin-cupcakes than I had intended and alloted for myself. I'm feeling better today and am back on plan. I have a tempo run scheduled for tonight, which makes me feel accomplished.

What’s a “small win” you have from last week? I tracked everything, and saw a small loss on the scale even though AF showed up, which almost never happens!

GTKY: What is the weather that makes you feel the most productive? I don't think it's specific to the weather for me, just all about when the mood hits me, which is certainly not ideal!

  • @mvt2003 I have been posting these on Mondays, but anyone can make a new one--I just like this thread, so if no one has made it by the time I log on, I tend to. (Same with 10 Things Tuesday, which is my faveee.) My internet wasn't working all weekend until late afternoon yesterday, so I didn't make one for this week. Anyway, I had such a carb-y weekend lol, I am proud of you for your small loss! And please forgive yourself for those muffin-cupcakes.
  • Thanks @kagesstarshroom I think I'm just intimidated to start a thread! LOL! Happily, not beating myself up about the muffin-cupcakes, just trying to keep it from spiraling! I'm very capable of letting a slip become a much longer thing. I'm glad your internet is back up and running! FX for you! We had a rocky start with our new provider a couple months ago but knock on wood, things are ok now!
