Re: June First Time Moms Check-in 😎

  • Hi everyone!!

How far along are you? 17 weeks

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Monthly appointment coming up on Tuesday, hoping for nothing exciting except a heartbeat and an acceptable amount of weight gain, haha.

Any pregnancy related symptoms? My bladder and I are no longer on the same page about anything.

Rants/Raves? On Mother's Day, the woman at Thyme told me that "40% off NEVER happens - there won't be another sale like this until Black Friday". Today, everything in the store was 40% off again 😑. I got played.

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be? I always find this tricky. I think super speed would be convenient for cleaning the house?

    How far along are you?
16 weeks and like 2 days

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Check up last week and got my form to schedule the anatomy scan. Went fine, feel like it could have been a phone call instead of having to go in, but whatev.

    Any pregnancy related symptoms?
The emotional wreck seems to be coming back. Plus I now get up to pee a minimum of 3 times per night.

    Rants/Raves?
We bought a real patio furniture set like actual adults! We've been rocking the worst, Pinterest style DIY cinderblock bench on our back porch for the last 6 years and we finally upgraded to a real patio sectional thing. It's awesome, we napped on it tonight.

    Questions for FTM, STM+?
I dont have questions right now but give me alllllll the advice.

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be?
To be able to teleport, no doubt. I hate having to be in the car any longer than like the 20 minutes it takes me to get to work.

How far along are you? 17 weeks today

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? I had an appointment on Friday...fairly routine. But did get to hear the heart beat with a Doppler! Glad to know he’s still doing well.

Any pregnancy related symptoms? Still nausea and vomiting but perhaps improving?? Ready for that elusive 2nd trimester feeling

Rants/Raves? I’m just so giddy sometimes about having a baby soon 🥰

    Questions for FTM, STM+?

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be? @angieeeeee I’m with you on teleporting!! My commute is the worst part of my day 😭

How far along are you? 16 w, 3 days

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? 16 week appt. Got to hear the heart beat which was very reassuring. Otherwise uneventful (how we prefer our appointments)

Any pregnancy related symptoms? Pregnancy brain! Still exhausted.

    Rants/Raves?

Questions for FTM, STM+? What baby items were life savers? What was on your registry was nice in theory but didn’t get much use?

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be? Time control. Speed up, slow down, pause
  • @kmb412 we invested in some Nest cameras for the house. We put one over her crib where she slept and one in the livingroom. I love love love them. Even now that she is almost 3 I still use the camera frequently to check on her while she is sleeping (SIDS terrified me. I just needed to see her move, even a toe twitch, within the last 10 minutes or I had trouble sleeping). I also love the one in the livingroom because we have caught some of our favorite family moments on there. Like, laugh out loud pee our pants as we rewatch them. Also, it caught moments we wouldnt have had a camera ready for like her first time using sign language to tell us she was hungry. And, since I work at night,  it helped my anxiety to just be able to pull up the camera and know she and my husband were doing ok. PLUS, I have some moments saved as video clips where she would just randomly hug my husband and tell him how much she loves him. We will eventually move the camera out of her room for privacy as she grows but it has been one of my favorite purchases so far.

Also, for a cool app, get The Wonder Weeks. It is based on a book but helps explain developmental leaps they go through. It provides some sanity in the moments of "what the hell is wrong with this kid and will they ever be ok again?". The book is awesome for more information but the app shows where your kiddo is in the process. It helped us plan some trips and such by working around periods of development we just knew she would be a straight mess.
  • How far along are you?  16 weeks on the nose

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?  Met with our midwives for the first time last week.  Mostly answering questions about family and medical history but also got to hear the heartbeat (yay!!!!) and was reassured that it's normal not to be showing much at this point.  Also, one of them pointed out that she could feel movement, and ever since then I've been sensitive to it as well and my husband can even feel it.  He loves that!

Any pregnancy related symptoms?  Really sore boobs still, and kinda sore underarms (?!).  Anyone else have that?  Still some fatigue but that seems to be getting better.

    Rants/Raves?

Questions for FTM, STM+?  I'm nervous about postpartum depression since it runs in my family.  Any strategies, books, etc. to recommend?

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be?  Teleportation does sound pretty good ... my family is almost all on the East Coast and I miss them ...
  • @alaluap ugh that’s so frustrating! I hate when sales people blatantly lie to you

@mc0303 ugh I’m sorry your still having so much “morning sickness”

@kmb412  time control would be great! Speed up during work and slow down on the weekends!

@angieeeeee @mimigarden @mc0303 ooh that’s a good super power, I like that better than the one I came up with! But only if you could bring people with you by holding onto them

How far along are you? 18 weeks today

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? Nope and don’t have another til the 17th

Any pregnancy related symptoms? Still getting random days that I’m nauseous most of the day and wake up a few days a week with a headache- but that usually only lasts a few hours

Rants/Raves? Rave-finally have a visible belly woot woot. Gonna tell work today

Questions for FTM, STM+? Not right now

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be? Flying for sure because I’m afraid of planes but if I could fly I would have a means of escape if something went wrong on the plane lol
  • @mimigarden whatever you feel, don’t hide it and don’t deny it.  Take the help when it’s offered, but also don’t feel bad asking.  Make sure people around you are aware of your concerns that you’re predisposed to it, and ask a friend or two to be on watch for you.  I had some major anxiety for the majority of the first year and did not get formal help since it didn’t really set in until after my six week appointment.  Just plan on talking about it in the hospital or at one of your last prenatal appointments with your ob before you are discharged and have a plan what will happen if you start to feel more than just the hormonal baby blues.  You’re already being proactive, and that’s the best thing you can do!
  • @kmb412 - The bumbo was for us useless.  Both my babies thighs were too big to fit and it was only something we used for maybe a month.

Oh and if you are nursing get the boppy pillow and not the my nursing friend one that clips around you.  The Boppy aside from being able to be used for tummy time and when learning how to sit is just a lot more comfortable and versatile than the one that straps around you.

@mimigarden - I second @Rogro118.  Don't feel bad asking for help or too proud to take medication, I remember getting to a point that I was so tired & depressed that I was at the top of the stairs after my 2nd and was like...if I fall down these I get to rest for a little.  After that I talked to my doctor thank goodness.  The medicine was a life changer and I could have gotten help before 6 months if I hadn't been trying to just push through it on my own.

@mimigarden My family is all on the east coast too :( I've been missing them a lot lately. I'm nervous about postpartum depression too. My OB recommended finding a therapist now to get in front of any potential situation and establish a relationship before the baby comes.

  • How far along are you? 16 weeks and 5 days

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
I haven't had any appointments for the last few weeks but I have more bloodwork on Friday for more prenatal testing. The first round at 10 weeks came out perfectly, but these will be medically necessary to perform higher level ultrasounds they anticipate having to do later in my pregnancy (this is an IVF pregnancy and I have a history of cardiac issues and a platelet disorder so they'll want to monitor baby's heart closely and stuff like that).

Any pregnancy related symptoms? Not really! The only things that make me feel like I am pregnant are my little bump, the occasional flutter from baby boy, and some aversions.

Rants/Raves? This whole buying another house while pregnant thing is insane...

Questions for FTM, STM+? I am toying with the idea of getting a midwife. I should probably start interviews now, right? I'm going to sign us up for birthing classes and newborn classes, but no one I know personally has used a midwife, so I can't ask for recommendations or help even though I am one of the last to have a baby.

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be?
To accomplish tasks with a snap of my fingers (i.e. we had to put our office back together today after getting new carpeting installed on Friday...or this whole impending moving process...I am pretty useless because I am on loftong restrictions because of my pregnancy).
  • kmb412kmb412 member
@alwayseloquent I’m also interested in using a midwife. The OB practice I go to partners with a midwife team, which is really reassuring bc if I go the midwife route but there are complications I know who the dr. on call will be and I know they will immediately have access to/be familiar with all of my files. I would start by asking your OB if they have any midwife partnership program, or the hospital where you want to deliver, and go from there. Good luck!
  • How far along are you? 15 weeks and 1 day

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? No. My next appointment is June 17th.

Any pregnancy related symptoms? Sore breasts that nearly doubled in size!

Rants/Raves? I’m pretty excited about being in the second trimester!

    Questions for FTM, STM+? No

GTKY: If you could have one superpower what would it be? The ability to turn invisible.
