Nails/Fails: I nailed having a "me" day today and it's been nice! I cant think of a fail at the moment, which i suppose is good too!
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary?
Dear Diary: I still feel this nagging anxiety over something going wrong with my pregnancy, even though everything has been perfect and textbook so far. I think it's because I've had several people I'm close with miscarry in the last 6 months and the fears just keep coming up throughout this prgenancy. I was way more laid back with my son and I miss feeling that way.
Rave: because of the above feelings I went and got an elective ultrasound today as part of my "me" day. Reconfirmed baby is in fact a girl, and she was kicking and moving around like crazy in there which was so reassuring. I really hope to start feeling her movements soon!
Questions?
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? Hawaii (Maui, Oahu) in 20 days!! And my dad just convinced me to come up and join them at the summer house in Maine at the end of July. Not that I needed much convincing, I havent been in 3 years and love going.
Nails/Fails: Fail at using my phone too much. I need to break the habit and preferably before #2 gets here. I love reading so much and will literally read the back of the box of cereal. So having a phone next to me with so much to read is too much temptation. I need to start putting it up and grabbing actual books or my kindle. Setting a good example and all that.
Nail: Uhhh. I taught my kid to say "wicked awesome" in response to things. So that was a good day.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Rant: Some times I get super burned out because I feel like I am always the one who has to be on. If I am sick I am stuck with my toddler all day. For some reason when my husband is sick it is only on Mondays or Wednesdays when she is at daycare and I am at work all day or on the weekend when I am still in charge. I dont blame him per say, but some times I wish I had just down time without being in demand either at work or at home. Raves: I love my family so much. My heart is filled with joy with the two of them and I cant wait to add another one to the mix!
Questions? Any one got any tricks up their sleeves for keeping a toddler in bed? Mine has been doing the in and out for about an hour and a half every night. We even turned her crib back around to the wall (only one side is missing for the toddler bed) and she did phenom with that. We figured eventually she needs to learn to stay in her crib so turned it back around. Back to nonsense. For the past 4 days we are doing the 100 times a night walk to her bed no talking and no anger. I do think it is working a little but it is exhausting. She even asked if we could turn her crib back around. At least she knows she has no impulse control. Also, when her crib is turned around she sleeps til 8. Turned where she can get out-up at 6. Blasphemy. Tip me up people. This momma needs rest.
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? Family vacation with the inlaws to Branson in July. Both excited and a little not excited. Trip was planned prior to baby popping up, so I had planned to be nice and buzzed most of the trip. Luckily my SIL is also pregnant and only about a week and a half behind me so we can be hot, sweaty, sober pregnant people together.
Nails/Fails: Sort of a nail, I took DS to a little market with my friend yesterday, and we let him out of the stroller to play in this little area with out toddlers playing. He ended up playing with cars with this other little boy and then they had a little fight about whose car was whose. The nail is that I didn't get either upset or embarrassed but I just did what I had to do and removed him and captured him back into the stroller and ignored him while he was just sitting in there yelling "my car! my car!" lol. He had his car back, of course.. Fails, I'm sure I have many but all were pretty mini recently - my biggest fail overall is feeding DS the same dumb stuff I know he'll eat because I can't face the fight (chicken nuggets, pasta, etc). Open to tips there!
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? I'm taking DS with me on a girls brunch today.. I hope he behaves himself. My friend's daughter is coming, but she is almost 3 and much more mature than DS haha. We are taking them to the park first so hopefully they'll both run off some energy.
Questions? Does anyone have any experience with having a baby and a toddler share a room? We have another bedroom, but it really badly needs to be redone, and it's on the second floor where DS's room and our room are on the first right now. So I'd rather not put the baby or DS up there by themselves. The baby will be in our room for about 3 months. I'm worried about how to do sleep training if needed if the baby is in there crying and waking up DS..
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? We are spending a week on Cape Cod in August.. I will be 30w.. I am scared. lol. At least its usually much cooler up there and I will be able to relax and be weightless in the pool.
@purplefan1 I will be following for answers to your question about the bed... my son is 2 and he is still in his crib, but I'm not sure if we will leave him there or transition to a toddler bed.. and I'm very concerned about him getting out or refusing to go to bed. He never wants to go to bed as it is. Also, I feel the exact same way as you. MH works nights 4 days a week and then sleeps during the day. I literally don't have a day to sleep in and I don't really get any breaks with his schedule. He's off during the week when DS goes to daycare and its like.. sometimes I just want a couple hours to do something for myself too. When MH has work he literally does not change a single diaper. I should say when he is off he picks DS up early while I am work and is a great dad (and I assume changes diapers, haha) but honestly then when I get home somehow it is back to me being the primary parent.
@gumby22c hooray for a me day! And wow enjoy Hawaii! That is on my bucket list for sure. And, oddly enough, Maine, haha. MH and I love NE vacations. But we've never done Maine since its pretty far for us.
@purplefan1 I wish I had good sleeping advice for you but my son semi co-slept with us until he was about 6 🤪 good luck!
@creamcheeseplease It wasn't until my son was about three that I really switched from giving him the standard rotation of toddler favorites (pasta, chicken nuggets as you said) to a "you're having what we're having mindset". If he doesn't like, he wouldn't eat 🤷 no second meals or substitutions for him. He hardly ever truly went to bed hungry and he's a great eater now. I know people that are still struggling with "picky eaters" that only eat pasta and chicken nuggets lol good luck!
Due Date/W+D: Nov 23/ 15 + 1
Other kids/ages: DS is 7
Nails/Fails: Nail: Finally got some rooms cleaned that I never managed to get to this last week and my laundry is under control lol 👍 also going to bake this morning which I normally did on Sundays but haven't in months
Fail: Yesterday, while making our June budget, I realized I missed a CC payment for May. I marked the bill in my book as paid. I'm so mad at myself and I don't really know how it happened (maybe pregnancy brain?). The original payment was $40 but I had to pay $113 to get us out of the red. 🙄
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Kind of feel like this pregnancy is dragging/ kind of feel like it's going to speed up and I won't be ready lol
Questions? Not really
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? We love camping so will probably try to get a few camping trips in, though we recently went from a pickup truck that was awesome for camping to a teeny tiny sedan. Maybe a babymoon type trip to upstate NY too sans kid
@purplefan1 - When we transitioned my eldest to a toddler bed she was 2 and she definitely woke up earlier for a while and would spend like an hour pre-bed just running in circles. What we did was we had the toddler bed and literally nothing but books in her room. Literally removed everything but the dresser and the bed haha - set up a gate at the door since she could open her door and would just wait it out. We wouldn't go in at all. She had to cry it out a few nights at the gate because she couldn't handle the boundaries. I want to say after about 2 weeks to a month the early morning wake ups got better.
When we moved into our new house when she was 3 she could open the gate so at that point we had to flip the lock on her door around. 3 nights of crying at the door and then she was 're-trained'. She knows it is time to get up when her clock turns green.
I am going to be starting with my soon to be middle child soon. SOOO not looking forward to restarting the process but we want her trained well before we go to Disney in September.
Due Date/W+D: Nov 8th / 17w & 2 days
Other kids/ages: Daughter1 is almost 4 AHH and Daughter 2 is almost 2. Once we are within 2 months of the birthdays it feels like I am lying to say they are 3 and 1
Nails/Fails: Nails...I worked out today. Fails...foolishly told my daughters that their uncle was coming yesterday and then he bailed. I still have yet to learn to not tell them until someone is actually in route or we are on our way somewhere.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Rants: Heading to the inlaws next week and messaged my SIL to ask about the plan because she is constantly telling me she is a planner. Only to have her tell me that there was essentially no plan and that we were going out for a fathers day dinner. My biggest frustration with this isn't the lack of plan, that I just roll my eyes about, but that I have told them over and over my kids go to bed around 5:30-6 like asleep by 6:30 dinners are no-gos for us. She has older kids so I think she just forgets but I wish they would listen when I try to tell them things that I *know* about my kids. Inevitably my husband will give in and I'll be dealing with full on meltdowns at the restaurant and then again at bedtime with overtired kids. Totally looking forward to this, can you tell?
Questions? I'll take sharing room advice since that is what my kids and us will be doing when we visit next week. I am guessing no one will be sleeping haha
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? SO MANY PLANS! Girls trip with my sorority sisters to Disney (sans kids), 5 year anniversary to Boston (sans kids) & Disney with kids in September which was planned pre-pregnancy so guess that will be a fun thing to be the size of a whale around then.
@creamcheeseplease I feel you on the feeding. I try to get creative with shredded zucchini in Mac n cheese or oatmeal and riced cauliflower in his regular rice and it makes me feel a bit better about it, but he’s getting to the age of being very opinionated!
@gumby22c have fun in HI! That was hands down my favorite vacation. It’s so far from the East Coast but I cannot wait to go back when my kids are older and will do better on the flight! We did Kauaii and Oahu last time but want to see Maui when we go back. So exciting!
@ABabyMarshall can you come do my laundry 😅😅 my son called our puke if (clean!) clothes a mountain yesterday, I need help!
Due Date/W+D: 11/28, 12w3d
Other kids/ages: 2.5 year old son, he’ll be 3 in September.
Nails/Fails: I hosted my friend’s bridal shower at my house yesterday and it went better than I expected! Luckily I wasn’t nauseous until last night so I survived during the party and she had a good day so that made me happy.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? All of the above? My husband and I are buying a kitchen cabinet business. He works there now as a side job (he’s a firefighter), but the owner wants out so we’ll be taking over 😬 I’m super excited but so nervous to juggle this undertaking on top of having two kids soon! It’s for the best for our family for sure, and my dad will be helping in the office which is good since my husband can’t be there when he’s at the fire dept, and that means I’ll be able to do most of my part from home, but I still don’t know what my day to day will look like. I’m trying to keep my photography business going as well, although I’m only taking a few clients this summer and fall to give myself a bit of a break. Now I’m rambling, but that’s how crazy/jumbled the thoughts in my head feel right now!
Questions? How is everyone surviving with a toddler at home? My patience is at an all time low, I just feel so tired and still not feeling great so it’s been tough! I work for myself, so juggling clients and his needs on top is mine is proving very difficult most days. We try to limit tv for the most part, but that has not been happening lately and I feel awful about it.
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? I wish we could do a mini getaway, but as of now, we have no planned vacations. We live on the beach half hour north of Cape Cod, so we typically stay home in the summer unless we go camping, but I’m not up for that adventure while pregnant!
@rogro118 we have the hatch too!! She is starting to get the hang of it but often just comes out and says "my lights not green". Uhh, ok. Go back to bed.
@purplefan1 she’s a smarty pants! My niece did that too with the OK To Wake Clock, my sister ended up trashing it because she would just sit in her bed “mama it’s not green yet, it’s not green yet!” 😂
@ABabyMarshall I really do think it is super cool. And I love having the night light (that can change to whatever color you want), plus sound machine, plus wake up light. She rocked her nap today and went past when the green light switched on (sound machine can change too or you can leave it the same so that doesnt wake them up) and she was lit with excitement that she made it to her light turning green. Made us come look. She also earned a popsicle for it so hopefully that is a reinforcer to keep her in bed more. I also like that we can control all elements of it from our phones.
Other kids/ages: almost (1 month) 5yo girl and almost (10 days) 3yo boy
Nails/Fails: @purplefan1 I’m so with you. We transitioned to a toddler bed in December and it’s still a nightmare. Our oldest transitioned like a breeze so I’m at a loss. I’ve considered putting a baby gate in the doorway.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? I’m a teacher and it’s summer and I’m so pumped to be spending it with my kiddos before baby comes.
Questions? None atm
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? I went to Atl for a few days by myself to see friends (we used to live there). In July, we’re going with the whole fam and in-laws to Chattanooga which I’m looking forward to.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? I love my job. I really do but one of My bosses is a total jerk. He tries to make everything extra hard for me. The other he yelled at me and made me cry.
Questions?
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? A few weeks ago me and my so went to New Orleans for the weekend. That was fun. Other than that I don’t have anything else planned.
Nails/Fails: We had a big soccer tournament weekend for both boys and I actually had enough snacks, allergy meds, sunscreen, water, etc. for the whole day. Probably the first and last time.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Rants: the gnats here are terrible, I feel like a hostage in my house
Questions? none
GTKY: Any summer vacation plans? With or without kids? We live in the midwest so our weekends are spent at the lake which I love and we always do Martha's Vineyard in August, plus tons and tons of weddings (sans kids because I can't do kids at weddings)

@purplefan1 we just got this night light that is red when it’s sleep time then turns green when it’s time to wake up/get out of the crib and it’s been a game changer. He started climbing out of his crib, but his new room is still being renovated so we haven’t put him in a bed yet. He is still buying into it and we’ve had it about a month. You can change the colors, it’s a sound machine with several different choices, and you have complete control over the time it changes. We use it for nap and nighttime and I’ll 100% be getting a second one for the baby. When we introduced it, we did a lot of hyping it up and redirecting back into his crib when her climb out if it was still red. After the first week he barely gets up without it being green, then cheers when it does turn green, it’s adorable!
