It’s supposed to pour again at dismissal and my drive home. Again. Can I say again one more time? It took almost 90 minutes to get home yesterday. Can it just rain while I’m working?! Pleeeeease?!

DH and I spent the long weekend planting the garden and flowers and the like... so we took my roller skates out of my car (I'm a competitive dance and figure roller skater). And we BOTH forgot to put them back in Monday evening (through this morning). I remembered that THIS morning AFTER I got to work (I commute over an hour). I'm supposed to practice tonight, and I have limited practice days/times because of my schedule, but I now have no skates and a major competition is in 2 weeks and I'm so f-ing pissed off at myself right now...

Whoever is responsible for MH's project not getting paid on time & also the dudes that he hired who are treating him badly bc they are jerks! (Though, he is... good at imagining problems that aren't actually there when he is down & he's been super down about not getting paid, like--inconsolable. But I love him so they still deserve tp!)

celticknotfire They also have rollerskaters that compete in freestyle (jumps and spins)... but I'm like way too old/fat/boobs/butt/etc. for that crap!

WARNING *THIS IS LONG-WINDED*
Mine might be a bit selfish but it's kind of bothering me. DH's great uncle passed a couple weeks ago. They got him cremated and said there wasn't going to be a service. Now they're doing a memorial and it's over 4 and a half hour drive away. DH is a mechanic at a school district and they have to do state police inspections so June is usually INSANE for them because kids just got off of school and they have to hustle to get the buses ready. He usually works 7 days a week and sometimes doesn't get home until 9pm. He gets OT which is nice but it's going to be like this every June and EVERYONE in his family knows this. So his family is upset he can't just take the day off. We both have vehicles that are older so I don't think I would want to take the trip in one of those so we would possibly have to rent a car and get a hotel which is money obviously not in the budget. Also my best friend is turning 30 and my other best friend is flying in from NYC to surprise her and I was supposed to kind of assist with that. If we ended up going I would feel awful and possibly really hurt both of them because I've assured them that I blocked off the weekend. So stressful!

brookert615 Ouch. Sorry. It's hard when you feel a million demands on your time and you just can't do it/please everyone. It's especially difficult when these are all things that are important to you or you feel you should be at. Hope you can figure a way to make it work! Any chance you can skype the memorial or something?

@brookert615 I'm so sorry you're in that situation. That's so tough. I don't blame you for being frustrated, and feeling like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. This is probably an UO but sometimes, in some situations, I feel like memorial services (like the ones that are thrown together as an afterthought, or just done for the formality), are kind of selfish because in the end it's more about the living than the dead. I am all for paying your respects to those who have passed, but I also think it's unfair that there is sometimes an expectation of everyone to just drop everything they're doing, no matter how inconvenient. I hope they know and understand that you'd be there if you could. And I hope they don't give you a hard time about it if you do decide to carry on with your lives the way I'm sure DH's great uncle would've wanted you to.

@dpchickens funny you should say that about your skates... I did the exact same thing this morning except replace skates with something that I said I'd loan a friend's son for their wedding this weekend.... which is still sitting in my front hall. They're coming to pick it up soon. So guess who's driving home in the middle of the day to get it? At least it should only take half the time in non-rush hour traffic. Also, you're the coolest!

@brookert615 Honestly, I probably wouldn't go. I'd see if we could schedule a weekend in July to go see everyone and pay your respects. But since they knew YH's schedule was bad and booked it anyway, it's kind of on them. Especially since it's a memorial service and not a funeral.

Mine is that my review should have been a couple months ago (which means annual raise), and it still hasn't happened yet. It's now scheduled for the end of June. I mean, I'll get a check for back pay, but I could really use more money now. I get salty over this every time I get paid.

@brookert615 Were you guys/your husband particularly close to this great uncle? To be completely honest I couldn’t tell you who came to my dad’s memorial beyond my mom and sisters. His family needs to stand down.

@tyrion_ Back when he was really young yes, but he's always lived pretty far away so they only saw him at weddings and stuff. Thanks so much for saying that. I feel like it's me going back and forth with them since DH is working so it's just a group text shaming me lol.

@brookert615 At this point, I would just put it on YH's employer. Tell them YH is asking for the day off and you'll let then know. Then YH can say he didn't get the day off. What can they say to that? I don't think a great uncle qualifies for bereavement time, so he's not entitled to it and they're busy at work. His family will have to get over it.

@brookert615 YH’s family is being unreasonable, especially if it’s a memorial and not a funeral. I’ve missed services for family members I was very close to because they were too far away or poorly timed. I felt bad enough about it. YH doesn’t need his family making him feel worse. I would just tell them he can’t get the day off and see if he can Skype (if he wants to be part of it). My brother attended my grandmother’s funeral by phone because he had just moved to Japan. They were incredibly close and he was devastated that he couldn’t be there c Sometimes these things have to be done that way. No one should make YH feel bad about it.

My boss nearly gave me a heart attack when passing me in the hallway at the end of the day. She said, “I need to see you before you leave. Please stop by my office.” Then she found me outside two minutes later and asked me to attend a meeting in June so that I can represent our school for an event happening in September. I was worried I was going to get a placement change. (My MA is in SE and there is a very challenging student / parent situation moving up to my grade.) We have to find out about who’s stuck with the issue by tomorrow and everyone is on pins and needles.
