Game of Thrones Finale **SPOILERS**

** SPOILERS AHEAD*****........

The time has come - the end of 8 years (silently crying) - thoughts on the finale?  I am disappointed in the finale, I definitely didn't want it to end that way. Jon, who has always put others before himself once again did it again.  I guess in that sense they followed through with his character.  He killed Danny to protect the ones he loved and for that paid the price.  I was not expecting that outcome for him.  He was sent back to where he started and again in that aspect I guess it was fitting.  But that doesn't mean I'm not sad about it!  :'(  I really wanted him to become King.  Bran was not on my radar at all, however I do think that was probably a surprise to many and maybe a good choice.  Arya's ending was fitting as well as Sansas'.  Tyrion has always been a survivor and does whatever it takes. I have always loved Tyrion but seeing him live a free life ( thought he claims he didn't want to be hand of the king) and Jon having to live out his days at the night watch did not seem fair to me.  Ugh, so many thoughts- I feel like it was just wrapped up too quickly and wasn't the best ending.  On to the books I go haha...

  • @junebabyh Oh good - when I saw the wildlings at the wall, I was like wait a minute, this is really a happy ending for Jon after all. But then I didn’t know if I had missed something and he was expected to go back to the wall after escorting them home or something. I’m glad you shared my happy ending interpretation.

I’m still deciding how I feel about the finale as a whole.  Didn’t hate, didn’t love. But wanted to say that Jon being “exiled” to the wall was Bran’s way of freeing him. He’s FREE! He’s not sentenced to a life at the wall, although that’s what it was disguised as. There is no wall anymore and him leaving with the Wildlings to live in the north (and with Ghost for all the animal lovers!) is kind of perfect for him. Although, yes, I certainly second wanting him to be king—he’s so innately good! He’d be the best king. But Bran is good too, I supposed. I guess Bran as king kind of makes sense, but the story getting him there does not.

    Edited for spelling 🙄
    that's a good point!

Stuck in  quotes- At the end when they were slowing walking, I had hoped just maybe, somehow Ygritte had come back from the dead! lol, hopeless romantic

    • Really surprised that Grey Worm not only kept Jon and Tyrion alive for a few weeks, but also summoned all the major lords and ladies to KL for a trial. Why wouldn't he just kill them?
I was so confused by this. And I was curious what would happen right after Jon killed Dany, which they didn’t show. Did he just march out and say “hey! I killed the queen!”? Obviously not but how did the unsullied figure out what happened and why didn’t they kill him on the spot?

  • I didn't mind last night's episode at all, really. It was far from perfect, and the Bran move feels like they should have done more to "re-humanize" him this season, to make it plausible. But I also thought at the end it became pretty clear that he would largely be punting the work of running the kingdom(s) to his council, while he stayed focused on weird Three Eyed Raven stuff. So I guess I could buy that - it has Tyrion as the effective leader after all.

The best part of the entire episode was Drogon destroying the iron throne, IMO. I interpreted that as him (the dragon) recognizing that the iron throne is really what killed his mother - Jon Snow was just the vessel executing the death. The throne, and desire for the throne, destroyed her (and so many others.) It felt epic and symbolic as the true "breaking of the wheel" to me. Drogon's grief also broke my heart, but I'm happy they let him live at least.

I agree with others who said Jon wasn't punished - he was rewarded. Bran knew he would go beyond the wall and live with the free people, and Ghost. Exactly where Jon has always wanted to be - Bran set him free!

There were a lot of things they could have done better this season, honestly. The whole thing felt pretty rushed and not wholly satisfying. But the series in its entirety was incredible, and I'm pretty bummed that it's done!
  • The other two I was going to post didn’t post!

  • For a series finale, I have to say it was a real disappointment. It was like one of those episodes that if it had played in the middle of the season, I would have said "yeah, that one was kind of a dud, probably means the next one will be much more interesting". But there is no next one!! Gah!

I had so many of the same reactions as all of you so I won't reiterate. I just am kind of flabbergasted that they had two years to get this done and that it fell so flat the last two episodes. It's almost like they spent all their time and money on the battle with the dead (which was honestly one of the best episodes ever IMO) and then were like, oh yeah, we also have to figure out how this thing ends and then pulled a few all-nighters to work it out and make it fit into two episodes.

    @PenelopeSnuz77 that meme is perfect!!
I felt the same. You had 2 years and this is the best you came up with? Ah well...

I agree on the finale being very ....underwhelming? HBO just didn't want to pay for anymore. I feel like had they allowed a bigger budget probably cold have had a much more flushed out ending.
  • 👆🏻 Exactly what @steminist said. HBO definitely didn’t want to end the show. It’s their cash cow right now! I read something like each episode this season took $16 million to produce. But the writers are moving on to Star Wars (good gig for them I suppose, but I would have much preferred more GoT).
  • Okay y'all summed up my feels pretty well.

But one question, didn't the last 3ER live for like hundreds (maybe 1000) years before Bran came along?
Would that mean Bran is going to be King for...ever?

  • @nachellebeck13 Yes, but he was also integrated with a weirwood tree, so maybe that was the secret? It's unclear if all ravens just live a super long time, or if he specifically bonded with the tree to extend his life until Bran could get there and take on the mantle.

@steminist Oh!! That is way off from what I heard. Well that's just crap ....I mean if you're going to finish a project why not give it your all? It's not like Star Wars is new ....
  • This hasn't been reported as fact or anything, but I wonder if the writers are just worn out with it. They've spent basically a decade of their lives on this show, and maybe they just started to run out of passion for it. That's actually how this last season in particular felt to me, like the people writing it were tired and just ready to wrap it up and move on.

Good point! Maybe some of these prequels will touch on that.

I felt that was the case too in the last season.  I hear there will be a prequel and I believe one of the directors that did the last couple of episodes will be involved as well as George Martin.  I normally never end up watching prequels or sequels but I think I will with this one because I don't know how to cope after watching for the past 8 years haha.
