Bicornuate Uterus & Tilted Uterus - 2 miscarriages and no babies yet

Hello,

My husband and I just experienced our second missed miscarriage in a year.

The first one was around 6 1/2 weeks in Feb 2015, but we did not find out until a few weeks afterwards.  I chose the medical management option (the pills at home) and it was a horrible experience.  I passed the sac after two days and two pills.  Then I had contractions for a week before I passed the placenta.  I bled so much with the placenta that I was scared I was going to have to call 911, but in the end everything was fine.  During one of the ultrasounds in that pregnancy a young ultrasound tech asked me a question about my uterus (I can't remember exactly what) and when I said "What?" he said "it's like divided into two".  I questioned my doctor on it when the ultrasound tests were sent to her but she said there was nothing on the report about an abnormal uterus.

Fast forward to November when I found out I was pregnant again at just 3 1/2 weeks.  We were actively trying, so I was taking EPTs.  We were excited, but cautiously optimistic, after the disappointment in Feb.  I started bleeding at 5 weeks.  At first it was heavier (not horrible) and then turned to light bleeding.  Mostly it was dark color.  I went to my first u/s at 6 weeks at a midwife and the baby measured 6 weeks 4 days with a heartbeat of 120bpm, which I was told was good (I was later told by a OBGYN this was NOT good).  I was told I had a vanishing twin (there was a second empty sac) and  had a subchorionic hematoma causing the bleed.  I was also told that I have a bicorn uterus.  After this I decided I need to switch back to the OBGYN.

Something just felt "wrong" a few days after the ultrasound.  I tried to get another scan but it was close to Christmas so I couldn't get in.  The first they could do was 12/23 and I didn't want bad news so close to Christmas.  The bleeding actually stopped around 12/19.  I got an u/s 12/28 and the baby was smaller than the first ultrasound and no heartbeat.  I have a MVA done yesterday and am recovering today.  Again yesterday I was told I have a bicorn uterus with "strange looking horns" and now also that it is tilted.  I have Rh negative blood too, so I keep having to take Rhogam shots every time I bleed.

I'm afraid to try to get pregnant again until I have further tests done.  I had the fetal tissue sent for testing this time and am planning on visiting a reproductive endocrinologist.  Has anyone been in this boat before?  If so, which doctors did you see, which types of tests can I expect and have you had any positive outcomes?  I'm a little unclear about what path to take.

Re: Bicornuate Uterus & Tilted Uterus - 2 miscarriages and no babies yet

  • I know this is an old post, but I’m wondering how things turned out for you? I have just suffered my second MC in less than 5 months (the second one being twins). I have a retroflexed uterus (tilted to the back). My doctor plans to test for a bicornuate as well.
  • I had a similar issue. Saw a fertility specialist and had a surgery to fix my uterus. After healing from the surgery, I immediately conceived and I'm currently 7 mo pregnant. I recommend seeing a fertility specialist.
