Let’s talk registries!
Have you started one yet? Are you registering at multiple
stores? Are you going to use BabyList?
Maybe STMs can chime in on what items should be on the list
and which ones you can skip. Any good checklists/resources/comprehensive reviews you liked?

Maybe this belongs in a different thread, but I'd love to know which particular strollers you've registered for.
@dinosaur That's amazing! I just added it to my list lol.

Things to not go crazy on with a registry:
Diapers - you don't know which brand will work well for you yet. Not all brands are created equal for each baby.
Bottles - you don't know which type/brand your LO will prefer
Lotions/soaps - if you want to register for these, I recommend sensitive skin and/or fragrance free stuff. My son ended up having a crazy reaction to Aveeno and J&J stuff so we opted for scent-free.
Receiving blankets - definitely put some, but we only really used them to put on top of the changing table in case of leaks while changing diapers. WAY easier to toss one of those in the hamper instead of the changing pad cover every time.
Things to go crazy with on a registry:
Swaddle blankets - We used them for everything! Tummy time, snuggling, car seat cover, etc. I didn't use them for actual swaddling though. They never worked well for my wiggle worm.
Velcro swaddles and/or sleep sacks - these were a LIFE SAVER. Kept them snug as a bug and were easy to use.
Burp cloths - You will need a lot of these and I HIGHLY recommend these since they are so absorbent and amazing! They fit nicely to you neck/shoulder and can also be snapped around LO's neck as a bib. https://www.amazon.com/aden-anais-Piece-Classic-Birdsong/dp/B0744WVCND/ref=sr_1_3?crid=30GHW5BMJBNI4&keywords=aiden+and+anais+burpy+bibs&qid=1557947695&s=baby-products&sprefix=Aiden+and+Anais,baby-products,163&sr=1-3
I'm drawing a blank on anything else to share, but will probably think of more things!

A wrap
More PJs for baby. Who needs day clothing.
More sweaters for baby
Pacifiers (if he takes them)
A rocking chair (our apartment was small)
Sleep sack with Velcro
Blackest of black out curtains
Snacks for me!
Treating myself to a giant water bottle (BFing dry mouth is the worst).
Freezer meals - obviously you can't put that on your registry, but it should be an option. Maybe gift cards for local take out?
Things I got but never used:
Clothing that wasn't PJs
PJs with buttons - to hard on the middle of the night.
I also didn't realize that babies can grow out of their change tables really fast. I have a tall kid and he was longer then the change table at like 12 months. Now I just change him on the floor.
Edit: my phone keeps auto correcting to the wrong words
I did go get the Target gift bag and was super impressed. It had two nice bottles in it, plus a bunch of other smaller samples.
@cammie0526 my parents were kind enough to purchase the evenflo pivot expand modular travel system. It can be used as a single stroller, comes with the infant carseat and base as well as an infant seat that is convertible into a bassinet style seat. All seats can be forward or backward facing and can slide up and down the stroller to be closer or further from you. It can also be used as a double with no extra purchases (unless you want 2 infant or 2 toddler seats since the package comes with 1 each). The handlebar moves and It also stands on its on when folded. Target had other colors online that were cheaper than the 1 displayed in the store. Using the 20% evenflo coupon in the target registry book, it came to just under $300 and we won't need to buy another if we have a 2nd kid close in age!
I have a target registry for most things and a buy buy baby registry for items target didn't have. I'm still working on the clothing portion. Of course we scanned way too many so I'm trying to limit it as well as spread out the sizes. I've found this quite overwhelming trying to match the size to the season without knowing how big he will be and not knowing how much of everything one really needs. Bibs, crib sheets, hats, socks, how many is too many and how little is not enough....almost done and I must say I'll be relieved. Definitely learning a lot from people on here.
Looking for suggestions on a video monitor with 2 cameras, decent price, and good reviews. I don't want to use my phone for this either .
Also, can I just usr a Vicks humidifier or do I need a special baby one? Or do I need one at all?
Recommendations on creams, meds, etc to have on hand?
I recommend Aquaphor and Destin! Both work differently. Aquaphor is great as a barrier and Destin is great for actually medicating the rash.

I forgot to say that I’ve register all over lol. The majority of our items are on the Target registry. I have some on Buy Buy Baby, and then a few items that I couldn’t find in store on Amazon. I’m going to try to use BabyList but it want’s you to delete your registries with the stores once you’ve added the items to the BabyList. I don’t want to do that for the exact reason @redbreast35 brought up. We’ll see how this goes I guess. Hopefully I can manage all the lists and make sure they are synced up manually.
@kgg2241 I picked up my target gift bag about a month ago (and love it!). I’m normally a very honest person but the lady that gave it to me didn’t take my name down or anything. And now I’m sitting here thinking what’s stopping me from going to another target and picking up another bag!? I feel dirty just typing that out! Lol.
@redbreast35 This was my main worry too. I mostly put everything on my target registry because I feel like my older family will have the easiest time with it. But there are things I want from Amazon that I can only find on Amazon… So I’m thinking of doing the BabyList and the ones that are young enough can figure it out and the ones who aren’t can just go to the stores. I’ll keep an eye on the lists and just make sure that they are getting updated and synchronized. Idk if that’s the right thing to do or not…
@duewithpu2 Buy Buy Baby has a nice “Analyze My Registry” option that displays the number of items in each price range. I thought that was super useful!
@nightdreamr13 I spent a lot of time looking up reviews of baby monitors last weekend. I really wanted to use my 20% off coupon! I narrowed it down between 2 different brands. The HelloBaby and the Infant Optics (DXR-8). I read a ton of reviews and even watched a couple different youtube reviews. I ended up picking the hellobaby monitor (link below). This one had a ton of good reviews (the Infant Optics had good reviews too but I knew if you gave it a 5 star review you get a free monitor so that was probably skewing the results) and the main selling point was the VOX option (voice activated alert). Plus a couple girls on here also recommended this one. I think you can add a second monitor to it if you wanted?

@nightdreamr13 I'm also stressed about baby sizes and making sure we get enough winter / summer in the right size. I guess I'll just figure it out as we go? The planner in me does not like this plan though. Re: video monitor... I also went with infant optics based on several girlfriends reviews.
@LJMoon6 ugh I was aaallll ready for babylist until they told me to delete all of my other registries. I was going to try and manage all of them (I’m doing Amazon and Target) but decided that was too much work so bump babylist.
How does everyone feel about registering for items baby won’t need until much later? I’ve got some feeding supplies like cups, bowls, plates on there but am wondering if this seems too grabby?
Also, a great note about not needing to register for clothing items bc everyone will already get you that stuff. I’m going to go take my clothing items off then just fill in the gaps once showers are over
@nomangos23 Register for anything you think you’ll need for the first year. If anything, the meal stuff is less pricy so people can get that if they don’t want to go halfsies on a larger item. Plus, registry discount!!
@LJMoon6 Trust me, I’ve thought the same dang thing about the Target registry bag. I got mine a couple weeks ago...I figure if I’d do decide to go back there and get another it would be nbd because honestly we spend thousand(s) of $ there a year. A tiny $15 gift bag is nothing.
@nightdreamr13 We have the hello baby camera/monitor and love it. I believe someone on here has mentioned that two cameras linked to one monitor made theirs glitchy tho. Why do you think you would need 2 cameras? TBH, it’s super easy to move around and baby won’t be able to climb out of the crib until they’re over 18mo so you got plenty of time to only have one camera.
Prolly not something you need to register for, but trust me when I say YOU WILL THANK ME FOR RECOMMENDING THIS: piddle pads for the changing pad, changing when out in public bathrooms, lining the car seat to avoid a gross mess and another dirty outfit after a vomit comet incident 🤣
@nomangos23 I would leave those little things on your registry that are for when baby gets older. Some people love making baskets and those things are great for a basket. It gives people a variety of price ranges too. I had them on mine with my DS and I always see them on my friends’ registries too. They start using the feeding stuff around 6 months anyway. I say keep them! Can’t hurt
Edit: although 5/31 is only like two weeks away. How is it already almost half way through the year!?
Creams: TRIPLE PASTE. I do not use diaper cream at every change, but if they get rashy, I slather a bit of that stuff on and it's gone by the next change. Nothing else works nearly as well.
Meds: Be sure you have:
- children's tylenol (red, is exactly the same as the infants, but less expensive)
- children's motrin (orange - same as above re infants)
- a few medicine droppers with the ML measurement. They may NOT come in the box with children's versus infants (I think the children's comes with a cup instead), but you can buy separately for super cheap.
- thermometer
- petroleum jelly (to help it not hurt when you stick the silver part of the thermometer up their butt
- pedialyte. unopened, it has a very long shelf life.
- bulb sucker / saline drops. the hospital will probably give you a bulb sucker to take home. does not work AT ALL for sucking boogies from noses (nose frida, all day long), but if they have junk in their throats, you will need this to suck the stuff from their mouths and help them breathe.
You won't need any of them... till you do.. and when you do, you DON'T want to be scrambling trying to run to the store to get these things.
I'm doing just an Amazon registry - but we aren't having a shower, so it's more for me to keep everything organized and in one place. I like that you can add 'non-Amazon' things with a link, so that I can manage my full list and not have to jump all over. Other little randoms:
- night light for your room. it is much more pleasant not to have to throw the overhead lights on when waking up for night feeds and feeding the baby.
- cradle cap hairbrush. there's nothing more irritating than having it show up and wanting to give it a good scrub and not having the proper tools on hand.
- wraps - planning on a soft stretchy wrap for newborn and a structured wrap for when they get a little more head control
- pacifiers, if you plan to use them!
