The lunchables discussion in the Randoms thread got me thinking.... what do you miss from your childhood? Could be foods, drinks, toys, games, movies, etc.
Photos and gifs encouraged! (Spoiler if you are able)
I miss climbing trees, talking to friends online until all hours of the night, listening to my parents talk in the living room, my mom being up all night on the phone to her friends, my sister's boyfriend bringing over his video games and watching him play, and so much more. I guess I don't miss the material aspects as much as the emotional ones (though I do miss both).
@meagan-t, awww those things are sweet. I miss things intangible things too, mainly not having any major responsibilities or ever worrying about money. Those were the days!
Oh you hit me in the feels with the bread sticks one 😍 I love those things!!! I miss so much. I miss Saturday morning cartoons with my dad, going to my grandparents and hiking the state park trails behind their house, picking raspberries and mulberries!! Mushroom hunting is going on right now and I want to go so bad but my kids wouldn't take to hiking I don't think. Maybe we'll go tomorrow while I have SO home in the afternoon!
So many things...food wise my #1 is probably Dunkaroos
I miss TGIF with Boy Meets World, Step by Step and Family Matters...cartoons on Nickelodeon like Hey Arnold and Rugrats...all 90s music. Spending the night at my best friend’s house. Good Disney movies. And mainly just the carefree life of a kid!
My father set up a pretty amazing vegetable garden in our backyard. I only dimly remember the rhubarb and fruit trees, but what I loved as a kid was to walk through the tomato patch and gorge myself on cherry tomatoes. They grew insanely tall (for a kid) and it was like walking through a forest.
My abdominal muscles are nonexistent right now, so I also fondly remember being able to scamper up trees and such. I can't believe I need to roll to the side first before getting out of bed. Urgh.
My parents were pretty strict about junk food in the house, but any chance I could get I would go to the corner store and buy grape gum and things like fruit roll ups. Ah, those were the days.
@melanier26 When you go grocery shopping, get your self a box of teddy grahams and a can of whipped frosting (I think its Betty Crocker) 😘 I prefer to do the vanilla frosting but I would think the chocolate would work as well.
I miss riding my bike everywhere, all day, every summer. I miss the cookie jar in our kitchen which my mom managed to keep stocked with homemade cookies even while working full time and doing everything else (how???) I miss playing catch with my Pops in the yard. And I miss Squeeze Its, which for some reason I lovvvvvved. My mom wouldn’t buy them often but when she did, that was a good day!
@jenferlee82 and @kindbytealikat, I loved those squeeze juices too. The super cool kids like me would put the weird tops in our mouths and pretend they were retainers 🤓
I’m probably going to age myself on this, but I fondly remember riding bikes to the convenience store to buy candy with loose change we found around the house. We would buy fun dip, pop rocks, nerds. If we were lucky they might have old school candy my mom didn’t condone like candy cigarettes. We would also sometimes get baseball or basketball cards to try to be cool like our cousins who were into them.
Some other sweets I liked were pudding pops and push-up pops. I really wish they’d kept making pudding pops, they were so good!
I also miss having very carefree summers, playing outside every day with the neighbor kids. I remember watching after school TV... He-man and She-Ra, Duck Tales. Playing with cabbage patch kids (also remember Garbage Pail Kids cards, which I didn’t have because my mom found them revolting, which they were, but we found them pretty funny). My mom also hated You Can’t Do That On Television (Nickelodeon), but we thought it was hilarious along with Double Dare.
Also, I remember watching competition shows with my family like American Gladiators and Star Search.
@mrsinterweb I totally used to do that. I was just laughing with my sister about how one of the convenience stores we used to frequent was called low low price market. I never used to think the name was funny but for some reason now it is. I would usually get those fruit straws that we're coated in sugar or Ritz cracker sandwiches (cheese, usually).
I miss my mom making me breakfast. She worked so much but would make breakfast once in a while and have it ready when we woke up. Chocolate chip muffins were my favorite surprise 💜
I miss riding my bike. I grew up without a car so we either walked or took the bus. When I could I would ride my bike and oh I loved it. I rode it everywhere, I would even go grocery shopping on it for my mom.
TV Shows: Reboot, Zoobilee Zoo, and Exercise with Mickey (this one is going wayy back lol).
Does anyone remember Wax Juice bottles? We use to drink and then chew the wax lol.
The best memory I have though is coming home on the school bus and seeing Frank's Ice Cream truck waiting for us. We'd all get a snack and sit on our back steps and watch the carnival set up. I remember thinking that this was the best ever.
@galentine I loved Super Market Sweep @Cass005 I was going to put wax bottles in my post but Bump wouldn’t let me do a third photo, I loved those things!!!
So these just popped up on my FB and I was like snap. 😂 Had to share I do not miss purple ketchup though 😅 I lived through 3 different music things. Thats crazy to me! I had a walk man and my mom's little tape player! I had a gazillion hit clips, I loved those, lucky by Brittany Spears was my favorite!!! I had an iPod and a phone and then a touch iPod that took over everything! Now I use Spotify for everything 😂 game stations at Mcds. That's the only reason my dad ever let me go to the playland. He strictly felt you went to a food place to eat, not play. But if they had the game stations, he'd go in with me and we'd play a few games! I still have the barn set at my great grandparents. They kept it for all the younger kids. And I still have a working Gameboy, color and advanced 😂
I miss the original Mario Party on N64. My brother and I would play that game for freaking hours.
I really want to get a Wii and play some of those games as a family. DS is getting old enough that he's been able to play some 3DS games by himeself...I think he would love Mario Party!

I LOVE the original Mario Party! I'll bet I could still play that for hours. That and most of my Super Nintendo games - Mario Kart, Starfox, Street Fighter II, etc.

Now I want to bust out Mario Party from the basement.....DD would love it. She tries to play Kingdom Hearts all the time with me. She'll even put Hubby's headset and shh me if I'm talking to her
I miss climbing trees and playing Super Mario Bros (I beat all 3 in one day once and have beaten all of them without skipping levels too 🤣).
Food wise I miss squeeze its, dunkaroos, and while I didn't eat it because, gross, green and purple ketchup lol
I loved Rockos modern life, rugrats, the nick game shows (the hidden temple one was my fave and the guessing the invention one), Clarissa explains all and All That!

Re: GTKY: Nostalgia Edition
Breadsticks and cheese dip
Microwave popcorn that turned magical colors - does anyone else remember this stuff?! So weird.
Koala cookies. My mom used to let me have a small box of these if I was good during the grocery shopping 😊

And super Mario brothers and donkey Kong country (but we couldn't have video games so it was always at a friend's house).
