Routine check up turned in to finding out I lost my baby 18 weeks

i went in for a routine check up today an the nurse was using the Doppler. She couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat. She had 3 other people come in to look for it an nobody could find it. They got me back to a ultrasound room and took measurements of my baby An I didn’t see the baby moving or the heart beating. She said to me she couldn’t see a heartbeat and that to confirm my baby’s passed she showed me the swelling of the brain happening. I’m so crushed tomorrow I have to go in to labor an give birth to my sweet baby. I can’t believe this I don’t know what happened !I hope to find out soon . I had some questions for whoever has been through this. Do they give you pain medication after birth like they do after you’ve given birth to a full term baby? ( I have a 2 year old ) I was so looking forward to my son having a sibling this coming October. I don’t know how to deal. Can anyone give me any details on what to expect tomorrow? An I do plan on seeing my baby An hold him/her tomorrow . It hurts to go through this pregnancy an have my baby belly an know that I won’t be able to take my baby home. I’m a wreck. This is the worst pain I’ve ever felt . An I’ve been through a lot in my life. Thank you to everyone who responds it means a lot.

  • I’m so sorry for your loss. When I had a miscarriage it occurred earlier and at home so I don’t have any advice but I just wanted to send you hugs ❤️ Take care of yourself and if you have any family members who can be with you over the next few days please reach out and ask for help

  • I'm so sorry for your  loss. I have m/c at 16 weeks, but my baby had growth restriction and was measuring much smaller so they were able to do a regular D&C. please take care of yourself in this difficult time.

I just went through this last December. My baby was only measuring 14 weeks and we discovered it at 15 weeks. She passed a few days after a really good scan showing a FHR of 160.

The rest is in the spoiler....

They will give you meds to induce labor. You have the option of an epidural. I declined at first but it started taking a really long time so I opted for an epidural so I just not feel it anymore. You shouldn't need any pain medications post delivery. I ended up with a D&E because the placenta wouldn't come.
Enjoy the time you have holding your baby. Take your time and don't let anyone make you feel rushed. I'm so sorry you're going through this. It was one of the hardest days of my life.
