    • How is everyone feeling this week? good, pinching pain is on and off now.
    • Upcoming appointments? tomorrow - NST + AFI + ob
    • Questions? How involved are your spouses with the pregnancy ?
    • GTKY: what baby prep do you still have left? what are you looking forward to doing and what are you most anxious about doing or dreading? Car seat installation and pediatrician interviews are the 2 major things left. I did some nesting for the long weekend. I am not particularly looking forward to do anything or dreading but just taking one at a time and trying to get that done. There is a huge list that I need to order from amazon after my baby shower on May 5th. Sorting all that stuff is going to take the longest I guess

    • How is everyone feeling this week? Definitely better than last week since I’m at the end of my cold. I’m at work today and I’m peeing a lot more but it’s trickles only which is annoying. Lol
    • Upcoming appointments? Not until 36wks.
    • Questions? Not at this moment.
    • GTKY: what baby prep do you still have left? what are you looking forward to doing and what are you most anxious about doing or dreading? We need to install the car seat & the bases in our cars. We both have 2 door sports cars and I’m being frugal and don’t want to purchase a new car yet - seriously, don’t want a car payment since I haven’t had one in 7 yrs!!! But I’m sure I may get more aggravated than MH (he has way more patience than I do) and just give up after a month or a few and purchase a bigger vehicle.   I’m looking forward to being on leave from work - can’t wait!!! My last day of work is tues 4/30 so on leave starting 36wks!!! I’m not sure if I’m anxious or nervous yet about delivery - I know I’m getting close but for some reason I don’t feel like baby will be coming anytime soon.
@northbeach3 I’m not sure when it is typically for everyone to take leave. But I’m in CA so I’m taking the 4 wks of disability (@36wks) with partial pay prior to EDD. When will you be off?

@bkatp I feel like MH isn’t really involved in the pregnancy itself - I don’t waste his time for prenatal OV unless it involves an US then I let him know and he will show for them. He does help with making arrangements at home for baby when I ask him to... he now does most household chores for me too when I ask him too like laundry, dishes, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom - so I guess he’s involved with this pregnancy in other ways...
  • @bkatp i had a few gift cards roll in after my baby shower from people who couldn't attend, so maybe wait a few days before your amazon order. I was able to get most of the essentials of my registry with the gift cards! also consider what else you need in order to start organizing (e.g., we had to make an ikea run for dressers/storage) so it makes putting gifts away easier!

re: participating in pregnancy -- to what degree or with what things are you most referring to?  i similarly only ask DH to come with me to the MFM scans, but not OB visits.  I did ask him to come to child birth classes with me and he also did a "daddy bootcamp".  i've kind of assigned him some big tasks (find a nanny; figure out will and trust) and have asked for his help with assembly / major spring cleaning.  i think it's helping him get more "ready." i check in occasionally to see how he's doing emotionally since he's not a big sharer.

@mrsyng i'm upgrading from my 2door... but waiting on my husband to go to the car dealership with me.  he says he needs to do some more "research" before committing.  my girlfriends are ready to go with me b/c they think they are expert negotiators. i have too much social anxiety for purchasing a car, so I need someone!! be it my DH or my girlfriends.  i assume that'll be one of these upcoming weekends so that I can get the car seat installed finally.

in other news, i found out my insurance doesn't cover the spectra s2. boo.  the edgepark.com website mislead me and they don't actually cover pumps through my insurance.  the only one offered is ameda finesse double electric.  mediocre reviews on amazon. blergh.  did any STM end up upgrading or will the free pump get the job done?

@northbeach3 I was referring to general involvement like getting excited about the baby and actively participating in name picking etc. MH is keeping distance from all that and said he doesn’t want to get involved until the baby is born. He is just doing what I ask him to.

The maternity leave for me starts the day baby is born. I am wfh from May 1st though
  • @bkatp ahh. My DH isn’t a man of many words, so I have to be conscious about checking in with him. He never brings up names, so I did a check in since we’re getting closer. I’d suggested a first name and he said he liked it, so then I asked if he’d thought about middle names. This time, he said he thinks it should start with an A. So at least I got somewhere and have something to work with. Lol

Its possible the whole IF process has thrown him for a loop. That was def the case with my DH until about 6 months.

He hasn’t really helped with registry or shopping either, but I try to show him the things we got. I know if I asked him to participate more he would. I think if there’s something you really want him to do or participate in, just ask. I think they just process in their own ways. They may also think a lot of the planning is “woman’s stuff” so they don’t think or ask to be involved.

  • I used the medela with my son and it worked just fine. I haven't even started looking this time around. I had a really hard time breastfeeding with my son b/c I had to suppliment from his first week out of the hospital. I only lasted 3 months. I'm hoping this time will be better. I don't know much still but I think consistency is the key with pumping. I've also had friends who found lactation specialists SOOOO helpful! As far as leave is concerned, my plan is to work up until the Friday before c-section date unless she comes early. I worked the day I went into labor with my son.
@bkatp - my husband is pretty involved. He has taken the lead on getting painting and organizing done. He works from home 3-4 days a week though so he has lots of time to do it. He doesn't come to the regular appointments but likes to go to the ultrasounds. Like yesterday I got home and he had put the swing together. I'm pretty lucky. He does so much stuff around the house while he's working from home so we don't have to spend our time off doing it. I think it makes him feel really useful
@mrsyng It didn't take long for us to upgrade my husbands car once baby was born. we were driving my car everywhere and putting all kinds of miles on it b/c I have a ford edge and it was bigger. By the time my son was 5 months old, he traded his sedan in for an explorer. I have back issues though so getting baby in and out of the lower car was not an option for me.
    • How far along / EDD? 31w4d - c-section 6/17
    • How is everyone feeling this week? I've just given up on getting comfortable in bed. lol
    • Upcoming appointments? 32 week scan on Monday
    • Questions? Going to talk to my ob about why I am STILL throwing up in the 3rd trimester. Even on the nausea meds. Right now it's only at night but sheesh!!!
    • GTKY: what baby prep do you still have left? what are you looking forward to doing and what are you most anxious about doing or dreading? I still need to wash all of the clothes and finish getting organized. We aren't having a baby shower so I have been really bad about buying things I might still need. b/c my son came early last time, we just ordered everything we still needed on Amazon from the hospital and it was delivered before we got home. I need to pull down the car seats, install the bases, start thinking about a hospital bag and things like that. I also need to put up the actual signs and stuff for her walls. I think I've been procrastinating b/c I want to order one of those big wooden signs with her name but since I can't decide on a name, I'm still waiting. lol.

@northbeach3 I don't get paid mat leave and so have to use my PTO, then unpaid FMLA, because of this I have worked up until the day I go into labor, and plan to do so with this kiddo. I do know some who take off early and enjoy the rest. (I might enjoy it too, but I want every moment I can with the baby)...  so when people go out is really dependent on any complications and how much leave time they have.

eta: @Griffin5413 with my last pregnancy the nausea came back full force in the third tri and I was back to dry heaving regularly after a bit of a break in the second tri. Sorry your still vomiting.

  • @northbeach3 I took leave 3 weeks before due date. I could have def hung in there a little longer, but for me...the last week or so is when I really felt huge and struggled a lot more just getting around in general. Granted, I had a 9lb baby, so could be a lot of the issue! But swear, the last 2 weeks it was like I doubled in size and people had no issues in public asking me about the baby  :D I was glad I took off a little early just to get "settled" and get some rest. I've yet to get a decent nights sleep since baby was born.

  • @northbeach3 with DD I worked until my due date. I laugh looking back at it because I was in NY at the time and had an hour bus ride each way and with each progressive day the bus driver (same one every day) would look at me and get more and more nervous that it would happen on his watch! But then she was 8 days late. With this one, I am working until the Friday before my Monday c-section, so 2 weeks from this Friday.

@bkatp as far as DH involvement, mine has been doing all the house stuff but that's only because with the placenta previa he kind of has to. Which has been great because I couldn't do it all! We have been very relaxed about nursery prep, I think because last time with our first we were hyperorganized and everything was perfectly sorted, and this time we are both like, eh, what do we REALLY need? And in truth, other than a car seat installed, and me ready to nurse, and some clean clothes for him and changing table ready, that's all you really need. Once I can lift and do ANYTHING again, I will get to do all the nesting stuff that I haven't been allowed to do, so that will be a real treat.

    • How far along / EDD? 33 and 3 today
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Pretty calm, just taking it day by day. I restarted the big time protonix heartburn meds so can eat like a champ again and actually sleep without being propped against the wall! Which makes me feel human again!
    • Upcoming appointments? This afternoon I see my OB for the first time since this weekend's hospital stay. I will see what she says...
    • Questions? Names...does it bother you all when a first name ends with the same letter/sound as the last name? I have a favorite, which when said as first, middle, last sounds great! Also, we would nickname the first name so that rhyming wouldn't be an issue except when he would use his full formal name or maybe when announced at graduation. How big of a deal is this?
    • GTKY: what baby prep do you still have left? what are you looking forward to doing and what are you most anxious about doing or dreading? I need to have DH put in the carseat base. We have the one from DD and it's a year out from expiration so we will use that one and then just buy the next level car seat in about a year from now when he transitions out of the infant carrier. Other than that, I think we're set with the very basics. All else can wait til I'm on leave and can do things again.
    • How far along / EDD? 28w5d
    • How is everyone feeling this week? tired cause I can get any sleep, I am not comfortable or just wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep or just have hard time falling asleep. it's really annoying! I have been pretty busy at work too and it's not fun at all. I feel like i need a break sometimes but I'm trying to save maternity leave to when baby comes so I can spend more time with him
    • Upcoming appointments? next tuesday
    • Questions? it's been over a month now and i'm not gaining any weight but my bump measurement is on track. I'm kinda worry although my OB told me not to worry that it happens that as long as the measurements are ok, it shows baby's growth but I can't stop thinking about it, especially knowing that i won't be getting anymore U/S
    • GTKY: what baby prep do you still have left? what are you looking forward to doing and what are you most anxious about doing or dreading? I think we have everything we think we'll need except the clothes. we will probably start shopping for clothes this weekend or next. we have a lot of junk in baby's closet. that needs to go so we can put the clothes. My DH finally put the crib and dresser, changing station together which I'm happy about it, he still needs to assembly the night stand, vacuum the room then put the decoration up. I do want to meet with the pediatrician so that's something we need to schedule and we will wait around 36 weeks to put the car seat in the car. we have the guest room to clean too because my mom will be staying with us for awhile and will arrive end June, so I guess we still have quiet bit to get done, ugh! seem like it never ends!
  • @babydust2507 Don't worry about the weight gain. With my first, I only gained 12 pounds, none in the 3rd tri. With my second, I gained 13 pounds and actually lost 4 pounds in the 3rd tri. My Dr was never worried and both babies always measured ahead.
  • @wildrainbow thank you! that gives me peace! google kinda scared me saying you're supposed to h=gain at least 1-2 lbs/week in the 3rd trimester. I can't wait for my next appt to see how my measurement look like
  • bkatpbkatp member
@northbeach3 yes it is my miscarriages that bought him to keep distance. I think he is protecting himself from getting hurt.

@Griffin5413 good to know that ur husband takes away the burden.

@babydust2507 don’t worry about the weight gain in second trimester. I didn’t gain anything at 1 appointment and at other I would gain enough for all 8 weeks.

My work gave me baby shower yesterday and I got lot of diapers and wipes. This weekend I plan to clear the storage area so I can put more stuff in storage
  • lol that's pretty funny @bkatp but thank you!  I'll try not to worry then and hope you'll get everything organized as you want.
    Have a great weekend y'all!
  • @bkatp
    @northbeach3
My husband isn't a "sensitive" guy as he puts it and he was really hands-off on alot of the baby stuff during my pregnancy --- I think it just wasn't very real to him until baby arrived. He's been an AWESOME dad and support since delivery. I think it's sometimes harder for guys to feel like it's real until the baby's here since they're not the ones who are pregnant -- and then m/c and IF stuff can really make them put a guard up until baby arrives.

  • Hi ladies, the end of my work week was super busy.  I guess it caught up to me bc foot swelling is back up and has a gnarly Charlie horse that woke me up in the night. Still dealing with sore arms and finger joints. The oddities of the third trimester!

i did think of a new question!  When did you STM experience the baby drop? Did you feel it happen? All at once or just various pains until you noticed a shift?  Guess I’m getting ansy :)

@mbradfo2 thank you for providing me that angle to think about and look at.

@northbeach3 nice bump pic that reminds me that I haven’t taken one in a while and missed 32 week bump pic as well. Hopefully 36 week next Friday
  • @northbeach3 I don't think the twins ever dropped (I was 37+3) when I delivered.... and with DD2 gosh I'm not sure... I know she had to have, but I don't remember noticing it and she was 40+3...

  • @babydust2507- as long as baby is good, you shouldn't worry. As long as your ob is good, then I'd go with that. You may want to ask about scans... my ob scheduled growth scans for 32 & 36 weeks and then again for every week after as a growth check. They just aren't the big ones like the anatomy.
@Momifbysea - I feel like we have the same plan. I worked up until delivery day of my son (he came 3 weeks early though) but this time, my plan is to work until Friday before my Monday c-section. And I have been so much more relaxed this time about what I need. As long as I have diapers and stuff to feed her, everything else will work itself out. lol. Plus it will be summer time in AZ so even blankets aren't that big of a deal.
@northbeach3 - i'm not sure if there was ever a moment that I felt the baby drop. I definitely started feeling able to breath easier but it was a little more gradual. I think as they start to turn down to get ready for delivery is when you will start to feel a little more. I do remember that the week or so before I delivered, I felt AMAZING. I was in full nesting mode at work (we were smack dab in the middle of a house move so I couldn't nest there) and I had  a lot more energy.
@bkatp - I also agree with @mbradfo2 about it becoming so much more real for guys after baby is here.

I had some sort of a stomach bug on Friday. man it wiped me out! I called my ob to make sure I didn't need to go to ER b/c I could not keep anything down. For a while I was worried this was going to be my life for the next few weeks and I really didn't know how I was going to last that long. I see my ob today so I am definitely going to be talking to her about my nausea. It's been worse this 3rd trimester than even in the first.
