Back sleeping

Is sleeping on my back REALLY that bad???? I feel like my hips absolutely kill me when I sleep on my sides even with pillows between my legs. I have tried putting a small pillow under one side so that I'm not flat on my back but that causes a lot of pressure and pain in my hips after a few minutes too. Anyone else having this issue? How seariously should I be taking this no back sleep rule?

I think you should ask your doctor, or at least Dr. Google.  We are an established group of people that have an intro thread and a read this first thread.  Who exactly are you?

But for what it's worth, I try to only sleep on my left side bc everything else has the potential to cut off critical blood supply for baby or me.  As far as I know this becomes more and more important as the baby gets bigger.   But again - I'm no doctor and I just do what I'm told because IM NOT A DOCTOR!

  • Hey @simonsmom89 -- I don't really know the answer but I do face the same problems. I try to sleep on my side as much as I can, but often find myself on my back anyway. Usually this causes me a lot of back pain and stiffness in the morning. As far as cutting off blood supply, I wonder if your body would tell you when it's time to change positions. Definitely something I need to ask my doctor too: should I make conscious effort to avoid my back, or will my body trigger me to shift if blood supply is threatened?

Also FYI, we have a whole thread dedicated to Q&As, so feel free to ask questions like this on there!  (This community generally prefers to keep posts organized like that.) Good luck getting precious sleep!
