We had a post on this topic way back in the early days, but let's do a new round! What are you reading now that isn't a pregnancy or baby book? What have you read recently that you loved? What do the rest of us NEED to read?
I'll start it off! I am reading "An American Marriage" and it's really good. I highly recommend it. I recently read "Children of Blood and Bone" and it was also very, very good. I also read "Death of Mrs. Westaway" and "The Tattooist of Auschwitz". For different reasons, each was a 6/10 for me. I enjoyed both and am glad I read them, but I didn't love them. Since I know there are a LOT of HP/GOT/Other epic saga fans on here, I'll also disclose that I'm reading the Stormlight Archive (fantasy and super, super long) and am on book two (of three so far - the author is planning ten from what I've heard). It's really good but takes commitment.
I can't wait to hear about what you're all reading!
Nothing. LOL. I haven’t read in a loooooong time. I have “Hidden Figures” in my nightstand that I have been meaning to start reading, but I just haven’t.
Soooo much—and by reading I mean I JUST found the app “Libby” by Overdrive so I can check out free audiobooks from my libraryyyy because sadly I have 0 time to physically sit down and read and it’s transformed my life! So:
Currently: Little Fires Everywhere
This year: How Not To Die I love my little A-Holes Unplanned 90 Minutes In Heaven This Is Me-Chrissy Metz I Am Malala Dark Places Sharp Objects Girl with the lower back tattoo Big Little Lies The Power of Habit
On Hold: Before we were yours The Alice Network Crazy Rich Asians Maid The subtle art of not giving a f*ck 9 perfect Strangers Becoming by Michelle Obama
It's taking me a lot longer to finish books now a days. I read in bed before going to sleep so only a few pages a night lately.
Currently reading: A Discovery of Witches
Most recent reads: Every Last Word American Gods Becoming Winter Garden The Wife Between Us
Series I enjoyed: Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children Silo by Hugh Howey Outlander One Second After, One Year After, The Final Day by William Forstchen
@sunshine2417 Little Fires Everywhere is so good! I really liked that one. I'm also an audio-only reader these days. I can read SO many books that way and precisely zero in print. I'm also reading Becoming this summer - it's my book club's June pick.
@monkeysmom80 What did you think of Becoming? I've heard that the Outlander series is great.
@nomangos23 I LOVED Where the Crawdads Sing! So beautifully written!
@lillywonderland I didn't love Hidden Figures. Definitely interesting history, but I thought the writing style was lacking. It is really hard to keep straight which character is which.
@monkeysmom80 I love American Gods (and pretty much everything by Neil Gaiman). DH and I drove to House on the Rock on a whim last summer and it was so fun to see it in person. Have you watched the TV version at all? I think I may add it to my list of things to watch.
@mamabear2204 Becoming was very good. Outlander requires some dedication but so worth it. @themadcamel I've only read 2 of his books, but I really did enjoy them. I have not watched the tv show yet.
The Alice Network is next on my list so I’m glad so many of you liked it!
I’m about 1/3 of the way through The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy and I really like it so far. I guess technically it’s baby-related but it’s a novel.
My favorite book of all time is The Probable Future by Alice Hoffman.
I just added so many books to my goodreads list! I love
reading!!! I usually read while on my bus ride to and from work. I use to read
about 2 books a month but ever since getting KU I’ve been napping on the bus
instead lol. I JUST finished the book I started in Jan. My grandma likes to
give me all her books when she’s done with them. Recently they have been Tami
Hoag books. This series I just finished is called Night Sins. Very suspenseful and
filled with drama, even includes some sex scenes lol (made me uncomfortable
knowing my very conservative grandmother was reading these same scenes).
If there are any science nerds out there, I really like Andy Weir. He brings a lot of science into his writing. He wrote The Martian and more recently Artemis. Loved those books!
I loved the Alice Network and I hope all of you
that have it on your list like it too!

@LJMoon6 Adding Artemis to the list! Thanks! LOL about your grandma and the sex scenes! Similar story - before I had ANY idea what 50 Shades was about, I downloaded the book. My MIL happened to visit after I downloaded before I read it and I asked her if she'd read it yet. Her response was "No. I don't read things like that." I was baffled at the time and then mortified once I started reading. Hahahahhaa.
Thought of a couple more! Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Another somewhat sciencey book, also pretty trippy. Think butterfly effect. And The clockwork Dynasty by Daniel Wilson, etc about robots living among us lol. It's not as silly as it sounds. Oh and Foundryside by Robert Bennett.

Just curious, do ladies use an e reader or actual books? I'm a fan of actual books. I guess I just like holding the physical book in my hands and turning the pages. I usually try to take them out from the library instead of buying them all.
@sparkles5275 I have a kindle. At first I though that I would never like it more than regular books but there are so many positives to an e-reader. If I fall asleep reading it holds my place automatically, I can read in the dark without disturbing DH, when I finish one book I can quickly get another.
@sparkles5275 I used to do an old school kindle but after DS was born... Well after the baby stage... I switched to regular books. I like that he is seeing me read a BOOK for sure. Otherwise it just looks like more electronics. He likes seeing how far I am in them. May have to switch for nursing a newborn again as a huge book in one hand just doesn't work.
@sparkles5275 I read paper whenever I possibly can. I stare at screens enough at work and my eyes are goofy about screen time, so I don't love e-readers. I have the paperwhite, which is much better, but I'm with you - I love the look, feel and smell of a book! That said, I switched to almost exclusively audiobooks a few years back because I never have time to sit and read. Every now and then I'll read a paper book, but it takes awhile since I only get about 5 minutes a day. I can read 2-3 audiobooks a month! Maybe once the little ones are bigger and we have family reading time in the evenings I can start reading 'real' books again!
@sparkles5275 my preference is an actual book... the logistics of life mean that audiobooks are my jaaammm! And they’re amazing and I get through books much quicker because I can speed up the reader lol
@sparkles5275 I prefer my kindle paperwhite for all the same reasons as @monkeysmom80. I like paper books too, particularly to read in the summer by the pool/beach, but I try to borrow them exclusively from friends or the library because I hate when they start to clutter up the house!
@sparkles5275 Paper books for me! I tried ebooks a couple times but like @mamaber2204 said I don't like looking at screens longer than I have to. And there's just something about turning the actual page and knowing how much of the book you've read. I tried audiobooks but my eyes always wander and pull my attention onto something else (although I only tried this while driving. I've recently liked listening to podcasts while crafting so I might have to give audiobooks another try) . I get almost all of my books from the library too. Sometimes there's a new book that comes out that I just have to have right away and/or there's an author that I love and want to support them by purchasing their book. My grandma always buys her books and then gives them to me. It's nice not having to worry about returning those on time. But my library has a very generous no late fee policy.
