Why my pregnant self is crying w/o 4/25/19

What's happening ladies, what's causing those tears?

Re: Why my pregnant self is crying w/o 4/25/19

  • I cried yesterday because I’ve finally decided on a stroller/car seat I like (for some reason I was super indecisive on this) and I can’t find a local store that has it in stock so I can go “try it out” first. AND the kicker was I tried to explain my anxiety around this situation, and the general fact that I feel completely unprepared for this child, to DH and he didn’t get it. He’s all “we have plenty of time”... we’ll sure, if you want to wait until the last minute! I straight up bawled.

  • Here's why I'm crying.
    20 week ultrasound: $441.86
They spot a thickened nuchal fold and recommend genetic screening: $493.38
Follow up ultrasound with a maternal-fetal specialist: $563.25
This is all out of pocket expenses after insurance "discounts."
    How does anyone do this??
  • @law_and_little1 That seems high, but I guess it depends on what part of the country you are in. I believe the billed price (before insurance) on my ultrasounds is around $350 (with regular OB, not specialist), but I have good insurance and met my deductible at my first visit in January. Just wait for the hospital bills, those are the truly insane ones. DS2 was billed over $17K for a few days in special care. We ended up not paying any of it because the hospital messed up the authorization and had to write it off, but it would have been several thousand OOP if we did have to pay.
  • Got a bill from Labcorp for $1,100 for the mat 21 testing. Drs office repeatedly told me it was covered so why not. I never heard of it before. 3 mins into my appt with the genetic dr she tells me I’m not old enough to be there and they somehow made a mistake with my age. I turn 35 a day before this baby is due. Well labcorp sends me this bill and now the drs office is scrambling around to try and fix it. It’s not fair. I didn’t even know about it. This isn’t my fault why should I have to pay?
  • @mia8263 We opted out of the genetic testing because I couldn’t get a straight answer on coverage from the insurance or the testing company. Sorry you got stuck with an outrageous bill!
