Baby is the size of a(n): eggplant 🍆

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): blue

Upcoming Appointments: glucose test this week

How are you feeling?: pretty good

Rants/Raves:  pending a discussion with my dr and unforeseen circumstances, I think I’ve made up my mind about rcs/vbac.  Since success rates go down after 40 weeks, I think I’ll schedule a rcs for 40 weeks and try a vbac if I go into labor before that.

Questions: can’t think of anything right now

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Best - being outside after baby is born and while on leave

Worst - baby not being able to get the flu shot at the beginning of flu season

Baby is the size of a(n):

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): blue X's 2

Upcoming Appointments: ultrasound and on on Friday!

How are you feeling?:  I have a lot of peliv pressure and discomfort. Uneasy because I never experienced this with my first pregnancy. Especially not so early on

    Rants/Raves:

Rant: DHs family drives me insane. I wish we could just block them out all together. Too much to get into

Rave: DS is doing so well in preschool and his teachers keep giving great reports. I'm so proud of my biggie boy

Questions: has anyone had a lot of pelvic pressure? This may be tmi but if I am on the toilet for A BM I can feel how "swollen" my vagina is.. it feels like the babies are that low. My Dr even mentioned how low baby a was last night. I'm getting very concerned

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Best: I get time off to spend with my oldest during the nicest time of the year and hopefully will be able to do a whole lot.

Worst: we are so fair complected that I don't want babies to burn or become overheated

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out):
    Green!

    Upcoming Appointments:
    Glucose test and rhogham Thursday

    How are you feeling?:

Overall pretty good just easily tired. A little insecure about the crazy amount of spider veins on my thighs now.

    Rants/Raves:

My legs look absolutely awful 😭. I was a nurse working on my feet with my daughter and didn’t get them so idk what happened this time around. Positive side I’m so happy for being on vacation, seeing friends and family and enjoying time as a family of 3.

    Questions:

    None really

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.                     I’m a summer bday and so is the hubby! I am happy I’ll be off for the summer and get to be off when my daughter starts kindergarten. The worst thing is prob worrying about heat with the babe.

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Pink

    Upcoming Appointments: none

How are you feeling?: meh. Sitting down is uncomfortable because it is hard to breathe. Walking around my classroom makes me feet swell more, the only thing I want to do is lay in my bed and watch TV.

Rants/Raves:  Rant - my skin looks like crap. I need a decent cheap-ish drug store moisturizer. I have literally never had a skin care routine, but damn, this is the worst my skin has ever looked in my life.

Questions: Moisturizer? Especially anyone mid 30s to early 40s? I don't really give a shit about wrinkles, I just don't wanting to look like a pasty ashy swamp hag. Clear skin that looks like I wash it regularly and it is not a desert is all I'm asking for.

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Worst: I live in Alaska, it is high 40s during the day right now, and I'm already hot and sleeping with a fan on. I hate getting hotter.

Best: we will have 20+ hours of sunlight a day when Josie gets here, so I will be taking many long sunny walks with her in her stroller. It will be especially nice for nights when neither of us can sleep.

Est Due Date / Weeks + Days:

    7/7 - 28+1

Baby is the size of a(n):

    Eggplant

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out):

We were trying to keep it a secret, but both of us have accidentally spilled the beans a few times now... We are team PINK

    Upcoming Appointments:

None this week.... The breastfeeding class I signed up for is this evening

    How are you feeling?:

Starting to get tired more easily. It's getting up to the 70s on some days, and I'm already feeling warm - but I'm so glad it's spring!

    Rants/Raves:

I've started a food log on my fitbit app to get my DH and MIL off my back on my eating habits. Today I went to make my lunch, and MIL comes in and says, "You didn't eat lunch," as I am literally in the kitchen with food supplies in my hands. My weight gain is on track... Baby's measuring just a teensy bit above 50th percentile... I passed the 1hr glucose.... Just let me be!

    Questions:

Has anyone else started trying to keep count of baby movements? At our last appt, we were encouraged to start. There was an article on the Bump app saying that 10 per hour was pretty typical. I felt 10 in just over a minute during one of LO's usual active times... Is it really about just finding a general normal for my baby?

@cb123391 I am carrying one, but I am also quite aware of how swollen my parts are when I'm doing my business, and there's a noticeably increased amount of pressure felt when I pee.

@indulgentgypsy I have a pretty lazy skin care routine, so I may not give the best advice... I use Aveno as my moisturizer but I use aloe on my face after every shower/face wash. Unless I'm showering, I usually just gently wash with a warm damp wash cloth... and then aloe up. My skin dries out easily but I don't get too many breakouts (just an occasional GIANT), and I'm not a make up wearer, so I am mostly just trying to keep the dryness in check.

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

My brother is a teacher, and it'll be easier for his family to come visit when the LO is still new. Daylight hours are definitely a plus. I am really looking forward to making regular walks a thing!

LO is too small to take to into our gym's pool to cool off. I am concerned about the hot days and keeping us cool. I also get my seasonal allergies in June every year, so that should be fun.

@mama_bear19 I'm so glad you have a plan you're happy with!

Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 29+0...RCS last week of June. At the most only 10 more weeks to go!!!

Baby is the size of a(n): Another type of bread that I can't spell.

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Pink:)

Upcoming Appointments: This Thursday for the OB.

How are you feeling?:  Like dirt. I'm constantly nauseous and dizzy. My back is a disaster. And I keep bursting into tears. They sent me home from work this morning because I could barely walk my back was so bad. Well, that and I was crying. I'm thinking about talking to my OB about getting a doctor's note sooner rather than later. Despite feeling horrible I'm so so thrilled and happy everything is still progressing well so I can handle feeling terrible for as long as I need to.

Rants/Raves:  We still have no washrooms at work that I can use without having to go down at least 2 flights of stairs and still I am sharing with students. Not ok. It looks like there will be no solution soon. I'm predicting the rest of the semester without washrooms:/

My rave is that DD is being am angel these days. I kept her home from school with me today and so far age has spent the day snuggling with me and reading me books. Love this kid!

    Questions:

GTKY: Best: Not having to wake up early to get DD to school for the first 2 months.

Worst: Being able to keep DD entertained and baby safe at the same time. I am shocked and really worried by all the measles outbreaks!

@indulgentgypsy I am so jealous of all your sunshine!

@keebler6elf My docs never have me count kicks. They just say if you notice something is off come in and get checked.

@indulgentgypsy I use the Simple brand face wash and daytime moisturizer. Is your face more dry or oily? Also, being pregnant with DD, my skin was shitty. With this boy, my skin has been great! So maybe it’s a girl thing? She’s taking all your beauty!

@vanillalatte89 Ditto about the spider veins and varicose veins. It sucks. I’m afraid to wear shorts now that the weather is getting better. I didn’t get them with DD until I hit about 34 weeks.

@cb123391 Tons of pelvic pressure here too. My SPD pain is excruciating. I wear a belly band, and that helps. But I have noticed that feeling of being swollen in the vaginal area. That’s probably why DH and I haven’t DTD all that often. :(

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 7/7, 28+1. Hello 3rd trimester!

Baby is the size of a(n): Eggplant/coconut.

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): 💙

Upcoming Appointments: Glucose rest on Thursday. US appt Thursday morning to see more facial shots since little one wasn’t cooperating the first or second time.

How are you feeling?: I’ve been feeling the waddle more often now. It’s getting harder to breathe. I may need to refill my albuterol prescription. I’ve been limping a lot lately due to the pain in my varicose vein. I’ll probably ask the OB about that when I go in later in the week.

Rants/Raves:  Rave: DD got to go on her first Easter Egg hunt this weekend and she loved it!

Rant: Most days I don’t want to do anything. I have zero energy to play with DD, do dishes, do laundry. I just want to sit and do nothing... it’s not like me at all, and I’m bothered by that.

    Questions: nothing this week!

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Best: Introducing LO to the water and pools while it’s still warm out. Being able to go on stroller/carrier walks in the morning before it gets too warm.

Worst: The heat in the middle of the day will probably limit us to indoor activities. (Good thing we got our AC fixed last year.) Not being able to use sunscreen on baby until he hits 6 months.

@keebler6elf 28 weeks is what I’ve been told for kick counts.  I think it’s more establishing what’s normal for your baby so if it’s ever out of the ordinary you know to go get checked out.  I don’t think it’s unusual to get kicks that quickly.
@Panaceia thanks! I still worry that scheduling at 40 may not give myself enough of a chance to go on my own so I’m going to talk to my dr about success rates dropping between 40 and 41 to decide if I might want to schedule a rcs for after 40.  I have anxiety about waiting until after 40 though.

a negative about a summer baby I didn’t think of right away is not being able to swim after baby is born 😭

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 28w 4d

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Regular checkup May 1

How are you feeling?: I've been battling the flu again. I just finished 5 days of Tamiflu yesterday. Hoping things keep improving because I can still barely breathe out of my nose and am super stuffy with a cough.

Rants/Raves:  My husband has been super helpful the past few days I've been sick. He's still home as we wait for follow up test for his heart and it was super helpful to have him around the last week.  He took the kids to school once I got sick last week and did all the cleaning and cooking for 4 days.

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby. Since I've had a late fall and winter baby in the past I am really looking forward to being able to go outside and get out of the house. I'm not looking forward to the kids staying school with a newborn.

@cb123391 - I’ve have had tons of pressure this pregnancy, as this little on has been super low. I’ve been told not to worry, but definitely talk to your doctor if your concerned.

@indulgentgypsy - I've been using Alaffia face wash and moisturizer. I've seen a big improvement since I started, my skin has broken out less too.

@keebler6elf Similar to @Panaceia, my OB office does not have me count kicks.  They just say you should be feeling movement daily and if you notice a lack of movement at normal times then you should call/be checked.

@jenniferjoy37 Hope baby cooperates for some good facial shots this time!  Our LO has also been stubborn at showing its face!

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: July 6 / 28w3d

Baby is the size of a(n): Eggplant

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Green

Upcoming Appointments: Not until May 8 for a standard checkup... and the last 4 week one before moving to every two weeks, eeeek!

How are you feeling?: Feeling pretty good, more uncomfortable but overall I can’t really complain.  I did have some pretty intense and consistent BH last night that had me momentarily panicked, but they have subsided now.

Rants/Raves:  Rant: DS is sick and I’m hoping I can stay healthy!

    Questions: Nope

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.  After having a late December baby with my leave in the heart of winter, I could not be more excited about having a summer maternity leave.  I hated feeling locked up in my own house last time and being too worried to take him anywhere during the peak of cold/flu season and hated the long, dark hours and dreary weather.  I think a summer baby will be so much better for my mental health this time around.  I guess the worst thing would just be that we won't get to "enjoy" our summer in the same way we usually do but that really isn't a complaint as I am so excited for baby!

Baby is the size of a(n): acorn squash

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Blue

Upcoming Appointments: 4/24 for 30 week

How are you feeling?: OK had a big scare - Sunday I fell really bad in my driveway. Did everything to rest and get baby kicking to no avail so they had me come into L&D. Was monitored and thankfully everything is 100% healthy. Took a mental health day yesterday because you can imagine my stress level and thankfully he's been back to normal since then.

Rants/Raves:  My rant is my Axel is a healthy boy safe inside my belly

    Questions: Nothing today

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Well he's due 1 day after my birthday so that is the best thing for me, hoping he comes on 6/30! Worst I'm imaging is not really getting to utilize my pool like I normally do.

@indulgentgypsy highly recommend the below - plus it's matte so it will keep that oil at bay. I also highly recommend tony moly products - they are affordable and amazinggg - anything with an egg base makes a really good face wash

Est due date/weeks + days: July 2nd 29 weeks today

Baby is the size of: his thumb is the size of a honeybee today 🐝

    Team Blue

Upcoming appointments: ultrasound next week then midwife on the 2nd of May and OB on May 3rd

How are you feeling? Lots of pelvic pressure, backaches and just aches and pains when waking up/laying down. Also shortness of breath because baby is still liking the breach position so it feels like he’s really crowding out my lungs!

Rants/Raves: apparently my thyroid is slightly high, like within normal range but slightly higher than they like it during pregnancy so the OB wants to send me to a specialist, which I’m feeling is unnecessary since I’m so far along and not comfortable starting new medication this late into pregnancy unless 100% necessary and with such a slight elevation I just don’t think it is. So between all my appointments, with the monthly growth scans and shared care between my midwife and OB it’s just another inconvenient thing to add to my schedule. Not to mention all the appointments/commitments I have with DD and all her activities. I feel like we never stop, it’s something everyday and it’s just exhausting.

    Questions: Nada!

GTKY: best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

The best is definitely being able to get out of the house and walk/take DD outside and to the park rather than being cooped up inside all day. DD is a February baby and I hated being stuck inside so long and worrying about her being cold whenever we’d go out/worrying about snow storms when we had appointments booked. I’m also excited about being able to do outdoor birthday parties! Worst things are not being able to put sunscreen on baby and worrying about him overheating. Also not loving the idea of being postpartum and feeling big/gross during summer.

@cb123391 I’m having tons of pelvic pressure too! And I’m only having one baby so I can imagine with 2 it would be worse. I definitely don’t remember it this early with my DD but I’m just assuming since my body already knows what it’s preparing for so everything’s happening earlier.

Baby is the size of a(n): acorn squash

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): blue 💙

Upcoming Appointments: regular OB appointment next week. Every 2 weeks now!

How are you feeling?: ok. My doctor told me to cut my iron pills in half since they were making me so nauseous which has helped. But she said I have to up it once I start feeling better.

Rants/Raves:  rants: I work with such an incompetent person. She apparently went to my principal saying I “bullied her”. Well if me telling you to do your job is bullying then sure I guess I did 🙄 sorry I need you to work with the kids and get off your phone.

    Rave: it’s FINALLY spring break!

Questions: none this week I can think of

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Best: lots of daylight, my husband will be home more since he’s a teacher also.

Worst: being a teacher and not getting any paid time off for having a baby in the summer since I don’t get paid in the summer normally. So my leave in the beginning of the year is all FMLA which is unpaid because it will be past my medical leave dates. I could go back when school starts in August but I want more time with the baby. So we are going to make it work until November.

@gbud630 I'm so glad you are both ok!!! Falls are so scary. Especially when baby's movements change. I hope you're feeling better!
  • Options
@mama_bear19 Yes to the swimming. I am also so worried about not being able to swim for 6 weeks. DD is a little fish and 90% of what we do in the summer involves us being in the water. I'm not sure how I'm going to navigate not being able to swim with her.
  • Options
@Panaceia I’m planning on having my dh or mom go with us so they can get in with ds and I can stay with baby since I can’t get in.  I’m planning to put my feet in, but it’s not the same!
  • Options
@mama_bear19 SO works stupidly long hours so he won't be around except for maybe weekends. My mom is planning to stay home for a few weeks to help out but she is in her mid 70s and wouldn't be able to get to DD fast enough if something were to happen...and of course since DD really started swimming she refuses to wear a life jacket because she loves diving and swimming under water. I'm hoping she'll agree to compromise when she realizes it's life jacket or nothing. At least we'll have part of August...but until then I'm going to have to get creative:/
  • Options
@Panaceia that stinks! DH always works weekends so we’ll only have evenings with him. My mom would be more available, but she has yet to join the pool.  She said she’s going to 🤞, but I could see her not.  She said she was going to join last year and never did.  Hopefully you figure out something that works!
  • Options
@mama_bear19 You too! I have this secret fantasy where SO decides to take one day a week off plus the entire weekend for the whole summer. Unlikely but still...my back up is putting DD in private swim lessons for the summer, so she at least gets to go once a week, or seeing if one of the outdoor pools that isn't over DD's head will let her in without me (there are a couple that are virtually empty in the mornings so it would be pretty safe since they are fairly small).
  • Options
Ahhh I've missed you all! My phone is broken so I had to wait to check in until I was home with the laptop.
@gbud630 SO SORRY you had such a scary fall. That's the absolute worst, but I'm so glad you were able to get the care you needed and of course am super relieved that everything is okay.
@sarahtram2018 Has cutting the iron pills in half helped? I really feel for you; nausea is awful.

Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: July 3; 29 weeks, 2 days

Baby is the size of a(n): Very large pineapple, by the feel of it.

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Girl!

Upcoming Appointments: Monday morning I'm going for a maternity ward tour, growth scan, and checkup. I didn't realize I was getting an ultrasound (I thought it was going to be blood tests or shots or something), so when they called me yesterday to confirm my appointment it was a pleasant surprise.

How are you feeling?: Good! Tired, but good. I'm not sleeping too well during the week and my diet could use some cleaning up. Ever since I started my job (yay!) I've had a lot less time to obsess over anything and everything, but it's brought its own level of anxiety that wasn't there before.

Rants/Raves:  My mom offered to buy us a nursery chair with her Pottery Barn gift cards! I just want to go test them all out! My rant is that baby girl is growing (yay) and WOW CAN I FEEL IT. Haha. I just feel so uncomfortable most of the time. Just a couple more months, though, right?

Questions: Anyone else having calf cramps? I'm not a fan. Especially at night/early morning--they've been waking me up; it's not fun.

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby. Best: The timing of the first trimester. I LOVED the cool weather when I was feeling so nauseated.  Also, my sister and her family will be coming into town for two months right when the baby is born (they live in France and will stay with my parents); I'm excited for my niece to meet her cousin. Worst: I don't really love summer to begin with, so most of what I want to say is just stuff I don't like about summer and has nothing to do with a baby. I learned from one of you a while ago that sunscreen is not okay for babies, and I had really been counting on using sunscreen!! I'm also a bit concerned about the drastic changes in temperature from outside to inside--how in the world will I keep her comfortable when even I have a hard time? (I live in Texas where we really really love air conditioning!)

  • Options
@pizzaplz I started getting calf cramps overnight so I started eating 1-2 prunes a day.  They have helped!   I normally would have gone with a banana, but feared more constipation.
As for the sunscreen, you want to use shade, clothing, and hats to help the most, but when those aren’t enough the AAP says minimal sunscreen is ok.  If it concerns you, talk to your pediatrician.

Baby is the size of a(n): Guinea pig

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): blue

Upcoming Appointments: next Wednesday How are you feeling?: meh

Rants/Raves: Rant-  I found out after my last appointment that my ob would no longer be my ob and was leaving the practice to become the on call at one of the hospitals. I meet my new ob Wednesday and I’m nervous. I really LOVED my ob and now I just feel lost and sad. Rave- Hubby and I are taking our first kid free mini-vacation next weekend to Colorado to see one of our favorite bands. I cannot wait! It’s been a long time since we’ve had and kid free time so it’ll be nice to reconnect and just be us for a little bit.

Questions: if you’ve had to switch ob’s how did you handle it? What questions did you ask?

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

Best- better party options. I have 3 June babies and birthdays are always super easy because we can have their party anywhere.

    Worst- heat

Baby is the size of a(n): New England Cotton Tail Rabbit

Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Need to make one for next week, but doctor's office never called me back.  They also never called with the results of last Friday's glucose test.  Hopefully that means I passed rather than that they are just slow.

    How are you feeling?: Tired!

Rants/Raves: It's Friday.  I have to write a brief this weekend, but at least it's an easy one, and the weather will be good so I can do it outside.

Questions: Anyone feeling baby move above where your visible bump is?  I definitely have a noticeable bump now, but I'm carrying really low, to the extent that I still basically look normal from my natural waist up. But parts of baby apparently extend almost up to my boobs because I frequently feel movement up there.  So bizarre!

GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.

FTM, so I don't really know, but off the top of my head:

Best - Being able to just wear dresses all the time.  Today, I finally had to put away the last pair of regular jeans I'd still been able to fit into (they were stretchy and on the big side, and I'm still small for almost 30 weeks), but a surprising number of dresses still work.  Thinking having a summer baby will help minimize the number of actual maternity clothes I have to buy.

Worst - Falling right on the edge of age cut-offs for school, sports, etc.  She'll either be one of the youngest or one of the oldest.

@hellmanpartyof5, I had to switch because I moved halfway across the country last month.  It wasn't that huge of a deal for me because I was in a large university practice before and hadn't actually met an OB.  The few prenatal appointments I'd had were with a PA.  Chose the new one based on preferred hospital for delivery, location, insurance, and reviews online.  I probably should have asked more questions, so I can't help you there.  So far, the doctor seems good.  I'm less impressed with the office staff.  In addition to failing to return my calls, they tried to tell me I owed them over $2000 for a 5 minute initial consult with the doctor in which they just got my weight, got a heartbeat with Doppler, and asked if I had any questions.   They even threatened me with collections when I told them I knew that couldn't be correct (it's higher than the out-of-pocket max on my plan) and that I wanted to see a bill and check with my with my insurance before pulling out my credit card.  Turns out they screwed up the insurance claim and were trying to make me pay entirely out of pocket.

@pizzaplz, yes! On and off.  I got one when I was in the pool the other day, and I thought I was going to drown!  Had to grab the lane line for a second.

@hellmanpartyof5 Which band are you going to see and where’s it at? Hope you have tons of fun! Maybe it’s at Red Rocks! ;)

@jenniferjoy37 that was my thought, Too! Best place on earth for a concert!
I’m so bummed I have to miss my favorite band this year! Their show is the week beforehand my EDD, so that is unlikely. I’d die on the stairs, haha.

@hellmanpartyof5 Who are You seeing and where? I’m so curious!

@mama_bear19 Oh, thanks for the tips! I actually do like prunes quite well; I'll put them on my shopping list. Thanks for the link re: sun protection, too. What I got from it is that I absolutely SHOULD go back and buy that cute little baby hat with rainbows on it that I saw yesterday because THE BABY NEEDS IT FOR HER SAFETY.

@hoodevil0611 OMG that would scare me so much! It's bad enough to get a cramp in the safety and comfort of my own bed, but the pool? Glad you're okay and had something to grab onto.

@jenniferjoy37 @hakele we’re going to see Architects at the Ogden in Denver. I really wish it were at Red Rocks. Regardless, 5 days until we’re kid free!

pretty sure I’m having an allergic reaction to my insulin. I meet with my ob and diabetic specialist Wednesday and was advised by the on call to holt use until then. My injection sites have knots in them that are radiating heat and hurt to the touch. GD has been rough this time around.

@hellmanpartyof5 that’s an interesting part of town to be in while 6mo preggie.
I hope you have a lovely time. Let me know if you need any suggestions or help. I love my city, so let me know!

@hellmanpartyof5 The Ogden is one of my favorite places to go see shows! Parking isn’t the best, so Uber it for sure! I usually go early and try to go to the upstairs section. I think they’ve got some seats/chairs, so if you get there early, that’s probably the best. You won’t want to be standing for 3 hours... I’m pretty sure there’s a bathroom upstairs too, so that would be my suggestion! I hope you enjoy yourself this weekend!
