How's your water intake?

So even before I was pregnant I sucked at drinking water and staying hydrated. I hate the taste of water, I'm never thirsty, and if I just force myself to pound it it makes me bloated and nauseated. I know with the pregnancy I have to force myself to do better. How are you guys doing? Any suggestions?

Im doing okay. Last pregnancy i rocked, this pregnancy id say most days i have 4 bottles of water some 6 and on rare occassions 7 or 8. 👍 i just do what i can and as long as she's okay im fine with it. My 9nly advice would be get in the habit of always always having water in front of you.

  • I'm doing pretty well with it. My tip is to keep a clear water bottle with you at all times so you can see how much (or little) you're drinking. I try to drink 3-4 750ml camelbak bottles a day.

  • Not doing great! With my last pregnancy I couldn't get enough ice water ( though that may not have been till the 3rd tri). I strive for 100oz a day and I'm getting more like 36.

  • Not great. My OB already fussed at me about it last visit.
  • @nikkiraqs same I'm rarely thirsty, at least not for water. I've felt parched as a pregnant lady and have been filling my 24oz water bottle mulitple times a day. But maybe this is how much normal people drink not pregnant? ::Googles recommended water intake when pregnant::
  • I was so much thirstier in the first trimester.  I feel like my thirst level has returned to my pre-pregnancy state.  My OB recommends 2-3 liters daily.  I doubt I drink that much though.
  • I was really struggling with this, as on a normal day I'd have maybe a can of La Croix and a cup of coffee and that was it. I got a tumblr with a straw and keep it at my desk. It's easier for me to drink more with a straw for some reason. I'm now up to about 80oz a day which probably still isn't enough lol
  • I thrive on routine, so I try to follow a loose schedule every day:
-A glass of water between when I wake up/ leave for work (office job)
-I fill a 25 oz S'Well bottle right before I walk out the door and try to drink it all by lunch time
-Refill the 25 oz bottle at lunch and try to drink it all before the end of the work day
-Refill the bottle one more time as I leave the office and drink it on the commute home and with dinner
-I usually end up having another glass of water between dinner and bed

Some days I don't hit all of those but this generally keeps me on track. The weekends are when I really drop the ball!
  • I generally drink between 80 -120 oz a day, even when not pregnant.  I am really trying to keep that up.  When I was pregnant with my daughter 6+ years ago, I remember some bad blood draws because I was so dehydrated.  I don't want that to happen again.
  • I have a 40 oz water bottle, and drink at 2-3 full bottles of that a day. If I don’t, I get seriously nauseated or a bad headache. Chug chug chug, pee pee pee, and repeat 🤷🏻‍♀️😝. I think we need more water in good ol Colorado tho, so probably not quite the necessary amount elsewhere.
  • @blitzybee Agreed!  I drink TONS of water, KO or not!  I have a 64oz bottle on my desk that I use as a carafe.  I drink about 1.5 of those a day during the workday, plus ~12 oz in the morning and about 30oz in the evening.  I end up around 160oz per day.  Weekends are harder - I feel like I drink half that amount - mostly because if I try to drink water DS HAS to have some from my glass, which is 1) gross because he drools into it and 2) prohibited per my midwife due to CMV risk.  Speaking of which have you guys ever heard of that?  My midwife has me terrified of it but no one else I know has heard of it.  I'll repeat this in the Great Question Thread.
  • Normally I drink an obscene amount of water, but this time around, I am lucky if I drink 24 ounces in a day. The taste has gotten to me, it gives me heartburn sometimes, but mostly it makes me nauseous. I try to drink more, but I just find different solutions. Even my doctor doesn't care and told me that I should look into popsicles, but they will take whatever I can do at this point.
  • @bubsalicious Have you tried adding lots of crushed ice?  Ice helps me get more water in.
  • @monkeysmom80 We don't have an ice maker so no, but I have tried ice and it just didn't do anything for me. It has gotten slightly better as time goes on, so I'm just staying hopeful 3rd tri makes the difference again.
  • I'm in the market for a new water bottle. What would you guys recommend?

  • @LJMoon6 I love my Yeti. I have the 36oz Rambler bottle. I like my water cold, and it keeps it at pretty much the same temperature all day long. I’m thinking about getting the 64oz one to help keep track of getting more water.
  • @LJMoon6 I like my Camelbak Eddy for carrying around while out and about. It's also nice that it's see through so I can easily track how much I have had.

  • @LJMoon6 I love the Life Factory glass bottles but they are heavy for carrying around. Usually I just grab the stainless steel Kleen Kanteen. I like the insulated for the hot summer weather.
  • @zuuls_mom reading that reminded me I have one of those, and should be using it!
  • @LJMoon6 I love my hydroflask (cheaper version of a yeti). My H2O stays nice and chilly all day. But you can’t go wrong with a camelbak eddy (like @zuuls_mom mentioned). DS uses them and they’re awesome.

  • Do you guys have any problems with mold? The last 2 bottles I bought would get moldy around the o-ring of the cap no matter how many times I washed it. Mold loves plastic. I used to do mold resistant testing at my previous job and I know how wildly unregulated it is.

  • @LJMoon6 yuuuuck! That would gross me out! Once I have a water bottle start to even smell slightly like mold I chuck it. I love my Klean Kanteen, I use a Bubba (plastic) at home and a Bubba (stainless steel) at work. They keep the water soooo cold! And if I have ice water one day and leave work with the ice still in it, there's still ice in there the next day which is crazy and cool, and then I clean it out and refresh it. I prefer the stainless steel one though, as it is easier to clean.

  • I am doing okay. Been drinking a lot of bubly bc I get so sick still and cant handle plain water. I'm normally not a soda drinker but some days it's all that will make me feel better. I buy the small cans though so I'm hoping that makes it less of a big deal.
  • @LJMoon6 No issue with mold but i think of that too. I won't by narrow necked bottles because I have to be able to see down in there well.
  • I'm not doing great... some days are better than others but I'm definitely not drinking the 80-100oz a day. I'm not crazy thirsty like so many people seem to be? I try to add a gatorade in (i know the sugar isn't great) but it helps me from being dehydrated. I keep a 25oz swell bottle with me all day and many days I barely finish 2 of them. Other (non caffeinated) liquids count too though and I have a glass of OJ for breakfast and lemonade with lunch sometimes. I know I've had a couple of days where I really dropped the ball.

  • I really try to stay on top of it . I've noticed days I don't drink much I get wicked headaches.  Summer should be fun
  • I'm trying to drink as much water as I can handle but it's sometimes hard to remember/do. With DS I had very low amniotic fluid, so I'm hoping that's not the case this time around!

  • I've found asking Mio or any other flavoring helps me to actually drink more.
