Upcoming Appointments: next Monday for glucose test and growth scan
How are you feeling?: great!
Rants/Raves: My SIL and BIL are visiting for the week with my nieces! Should make for a fun and hectic week! Excited to celebrate Easter this weekend!
Questions: nope
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
Best: it gives us time to find our new normal as a family of 5, without rushing back into school, and other activities! Looking forward to some lazy days at home, and not having to immediately worry about school drop offs and pick ups. Also, it’s easier to get out with a summer baby than a winter baby!!
Worst: it gets pretty hot here, so just making sure baby is nice and cool while big brothers are playing outside, or we are out n about
How are you feeling?: GREAT. Except for the fact that she’s been pushing out of one side and it’s been extremely uncomfortable
Rants/Raves: I can’t think of any at the moment lol
Questions:
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
There’s nothing bad. I LOVE having summer babies. Flu season is over, I can get the older kids outside, to the park, splash pad, etc. while keeping the baby cool in the shade. My depression isn’t as bad because I don’t feel stuck in the house. I love having summer babies!
Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 27 weeks, 5 days | Due July 10th
Baby is the size of a(n): head of cauliflower
Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): pink!
Upcoming Appointments: this Fri for Glucose test and growth US
How are you feeling?: Pretty good for 3rd tri. Mostly just uncomfortable regardless of how I sit or lie down. Also I can I’m getting hotter faster than I usually do. 🥵
Rants/Raves: no rants at the moment, only rave is that Easter is this weekend and we have some fun celebration/family time planned!
Questions: none for now
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
Best things: longer days, better weather, no sick season, not trapped in the house with DS, less layers to wear (baby AND me!), easier/less expensive to plan outdoor bday parties as they get older, + many more
Worst: only two I can think of are the heat here (sweating + babywearing) and not being able to swim for 6 weeks or longer after birth. Beach days will be pretty hot without the water. Still beats the winter though.
Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 7/15, 27 weeks. She's due 3 months from today!
Baby is the size of a(n): lettuce (been disappointed with the comparisons lately)
Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): pink
Upcoming Appointments: glucose screen and OB appt today. Starting the two week cycle, so next one is 4/29.
How are you feeling?: fine. Sleep has been hard, but overall I feel good. I really need to ramp up the nursery prep before I get too uncomfortable.
Rants/Raves: I feel her regularly now! I just want to lay still and have her kick me all day. It's so wonderful to know she's really in there and growing strong. DH got some good kicks last night which just made my heart swell.
Rant: totally had a hormonal breakdown on Saturday. I cried for 2 hours because I just wanted to be "normal" again. Thankfully DH was very supportive through it and helped me break the crazy cycle.
Questions: n/a
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby. I'm so thankful our miracle will be a summer baby. I always love sitting outside on our deck and having all day to do that will be a blessing. I am worried about sun/bugs for LO, though.
Baby is the size of a(n): flat basketball, apparently
Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): green
Upcoming Appointments: GTT and OB appt. today
How are you feeling?: Decent. Went to the gym today for the first time in months between nausea, soreness, and De Quervain's...
Rants/Raves:
Questions:
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
Worst is just that I'm afraid I'm going to die of heat the last remaining bit of this pregnancy. I'm from up north and currently living south, and OMG I cannot deal with it being 91 in April. Only one day where it was THAT extreme so far, but at least DH is aware our electric bill is going to be insane starting now. Already had one night where mid-insomnia I turned the thermostat down. We have a Nest, so I did it from my phone, but ugh.
Upcoming Appointments: prenatal + US in a couple weeks
How are you feeling?: good
Rants/Raves: Work has become immensely stressful. I don't even want to deal anymore.
Questions:
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby. I fucking HATE winter so there's that. But summer heat sucks too lol. But I would take it over snow any day. Ready for spring to stick.
Upcoming Appointments: Nothing until the end of the month. I do need to schedule our hospital tour though.
How are you feeling?: Still good. Although I ate too much at dinner the other night and got so nauseous I wanted to die. Apparently the heartburn symptom appears more as nausea for some people? So weird.
Rants/Raves: Got a prenatal massage this weekend and it was worth every penny. It was so nice just to be able to lie flat on my stomach. Also like @cindler I'm really into how much she's moving around in there. I find it SO entertaining.
Questions:
GTKY: On the plus side: not cold/sickness season, lots of daylight (which makes me way happier), also it'll be nice out which will make having people over to visit with the baby easier since we have a small house that can feel cramped if everyone has to be cooped up inside, getting to eat sushi again (the only thing I want when it's hot out). Negatives: this one's more of a UO but I hate baby sun hats. I only learned about the no sunscreen until 6 months when we started touring daycares and I'm bummed that she'll have to wear those dorky hats. Also, I didn't even think of the no swimming thing @mamahmh. That totally sucks.
How are you feeling?: Just really huge. My back and sciatica are like a million times worse than they were at this point with DD. Also, whiney.
Rants/Raves: Rave: we made it through moving weekend! Rant: OMG the unpacking to be done.
Questions: nada
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby: I'm VERY excited about a summer baby. I really love being outside and I'm stoked to not be trapped inside with zero daylight or sunshine like I was with my December baby. I'm a little concerned that I have some pretty rosy remembering going on, but I'm feeling optimistic that it'll be easier. I am hoping for a somewhat mild temperature summer, but at least the new house has both a basement and AC.
Upcoming Appointments: Next Wednesday, glucose test
How are you feeling?: Good, just feeling big all of a sudden!
Rants/Raves: Hubby and I celebrated our 7th anniversary yesterday-woo hoo! Our anniversary gifts this year were new living room furniture and we went out for breakfast yesterday. No rants that I can think of.
Questions: Anybody going to a chiropractor? I've never been to one before, but thinking it might help. I found one that will also do newborns and I've heard that can be very beneficial!
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby. Best- can rest outside after he's born! My other two were born in October and January, so I'm looking forward to getting out! Worst-um, nursing in the sticky heat? Though I don't sweat that easily and with AC it probably won't be too bad. Not like I've never nursed in the summer before!
Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 27W today (hellllooooo third tri)
Baby is the size of a(n): Head of Cauliflower
Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): pink!
Upcoming Appointments: Had one today to check a bright spot on her bowel. Luckily we’ve been cleared from high risk and will only have standard appointments!
How are you feeling?: Not too bad. I’m sleeping great but the swelling has taken a toll on my body.
Rants/Raves: heartburn can suck it and I miss wine. That’s all.
Questions: Sweet girl is now measuring ahead by almost two weeks and 89th percentile so we’re getting growth checks. DD1&2 were average and never measured like this. Anyone have experience with a baby measuring big but being “normal”
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby: DD1 is a summer baby (Birthday around Memorial Day every year. Honestly it’s amazing. We always have nice weather for her party and there’s no flu season! Maternity leave will be spent at the beach and with my children during their summer vacation!
Only downfall? I die when it hits 75° (Yay for growing up in the north!) I can’t imagine what it will be like being pregnant in June/July! 😩
Baby is the size of a(n): an echidna 🤷 It's like a little anteater.
Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Pink
Upcoming Appointments: Moving up to every 2 weeks - makes it seem like we really are getting closer to the end!! Getting a new ultrasound at 32 weeks, ostensibly to look at the baby's heart again, but really just for fun! 🥰 (Had good-looking labwork and passed my glucose screen last week too, so thrilled about that!)
How are you feeling?: Decent - having intermittent sciatic and pubic bone pain that range from annoying to OMG I can't move.
Rants/Raves: I've said this before, but I love that we have a spring full of fun things to do and really am looking forward to all the trips, parties, celebrations, etc. But am also getting anxious about finding the time to move into the new house, paint and set up baby's room, and all the other house things!
Questions: Related to our GTKY... anybody have tips/plans to keep cool, especially when it comes to baby-wearing??
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
Best: Not RSV/flu season!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Don't have to bundle baby/self up and can wear comfy dresses post-partum.
Worst: Being sweaty and hot of course. 90s and sunny are frequent for us in July here. Dreading the thigh chafing already.
@kingdommom I have been seeing a chiropractor since the second trimester started. I was starting to get sciatica and wanted to nip it in the bud. She is a holistic chiropractor, so she's done more than just "bone bending." Early, when babe was starting to grow out of my pubic bone, she did some sort of valve closing in my stomach area that really helped with RLP and other growing pains. She also treats my sciatica and I have had very, very little pain. I would recommend to anyone having sciatic pain (@acgx) to see a chiropractor! I believe chiropractic care is important in total body health too, though, so I always recommend them. Make sure they're trained and experienced with pregnant women though!!!
I totally get having a cry about wanting to feel normal again! I wish someone had told me pregnancy is a symptom marathon!! 😅
And work stress...ugh. How to stop thinking about the no way in hell timeline for my enormous project? I really don’t know. Some days after work I head over to the piles of baby stuff just to switch gears and remember that soon I’ll have an actual baby wearing that bib! Whoa! So FTM over here. 😄
Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: July 15
Baby is the size of a(n): dunno! Wiggling all over my belly these days, though- I’m feeling horizontal expansion more than I expected this soon...
Team (Green, Blue, Pink, Finding out): Blue
Upcoming Appointments: Just had one
How are you feeling?: Well, my sleep gets interrupted by HUNGER. So the nightly bathroom break is always a risk to turn into the undeniable snack time, and getting back to sleep after that is a toss up. I HATE working on 4 hours of sleep...which I did today!
Rants/Raves: Husband gets 2 days paternity leave. 2!!!!!!! What the hell is that? He will have to add vacation days to it, but I just think 2 days is an insult to fatherhood. 2 days is for a bad cold!
Questions: How are you guys handling the decision about when to reduce/stop working in the last month? I can’t pretend to get the same amount of work done, but don’t need to totally stop working either. Any experience with navigating the unknowns of the last month?
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
There’s actually no “summer” where I live now...just 70s that sometimes peak at low 80s...however there’s no AC either. I hope the fan I now have at full blast on me while I work will keep doing the trick! Hate looking a melted mess in videocalls...
Upcoming Appointments: Just had my 28 week appointment yesterday
How are you feeling?: Good. Baby is currently head down which I am excited about. She was breech earlier and even though I know she could still flip again, DD was breech and never moved at all so I'm excited that there is chance I'll get my VBAC
Rants/Raves: I would just like to stop feeling like someone kicked me in the vagina.
Questions: None
GTKY: Best and worst things you can think of about having a summer baby.
I had DD at the end of June and remember that I loved being able to go outside during materinty leave. I am friends with lots of teachers, too, so I am looking forward to having some mom support while on leave with this one.
@wineandcoffee your rant is awesome. Monday, LO was in a position where that is all I felt, all day. Repeated kicks over and over in the vag. Rude. Rude. Rude.
@expatmom39 2 days is absurd! I agree, it is insulting.
My husband and I work for the same hospital, which apparently means we have to share our leave... ie: every day he takes, is one less I get. That pisses me off too!
@hakele Virginia. Apparently it's an FMLA loophole. I've worked at two large hospitals in this state and both had that policy 🤷 Luckily, we work in the same department and our boss thinks it's bullshit too, so she's like don't worry about it, we'll figure it out.
@acgx That policy is somehow more rude than 2 days paternity! Like a weird social experiment...who gets to bond with baby and what’s it worth to ya? You want to be home together? Then you both get less time!! Sounds like an evil character came up with it...I get the logic of the hospital not losing staff, but...
@expatmom39 We are due date buddies!!! I plan to work as long as possible. I have already started preparing my department for the potential that I could be gone as early as July 1. As July get closer and closer, I'll send more and more updates and ensure that my appointments are on someone else's calendar as well as mine. I'll take the time to prep them for the appointments and deadlines, just in case. FTM so no clue if that's the right approach, but that's what I'm doing.
@wineandcoffee@hakele I get kicked in the vag all the time! The podcast I love (Guys We Fucked) had a pregnant comedian who was 30ish weeks. She made the joke that when her daughter kicked her in the vag, she'd tell her "no, no, that's daddy's place." I LOLd when she said it and think of it every time my vag gets jumped on!
@cindler I made plans today for my last couple of projects to make sure that my project based work is getting wrapped up around June 15. That way those last few weeks will just be about tying up lose ends and covering things with my interim coverage. My boss said she is fine if I phone it in for the last couple of weeks. God I love that woman. #BestBossEver.
