Restless Legs?

Does anyone have restless leg syndrome? I have it not pregnant and manage it with meds usually, but it just started up and it's so bad.  Does anyone know of any tricks or tips?  I am doing everything they say you should do - limiting caffeine, exercising etc. but it's not working.

Pre-pregnancy I sometimes would take Comfort Calm - which is a calcium/magnesium supplement - has anyone used this pregnant? I will call my doctor, but I just wanted to check if anyone else had success with it.

Re: Restless Legs?

  • @cookie510 I'm sorry you're battling this when sleep is already hard. I've had it all my life, magnesium definitely helps during pregnancy and you can still take Calm, and even double-up, without repercussions (plus it helps with constipation). I've been told by literally all of my prenatal care providers to take Calm or another form of magnesium. Pregnancy often makes you magnesium deficient, which can lead to more RLS.

Another thing that helps me is getting my circulation going. Sometimes a rough massage of my legs can help, other times, putting on or taking off pajama pants and socks (depending on if I'm bare legged and cold or cold even with layers on) but the most effective thing is usually bringing out the heating pad to warm up my legs and feet in bed. After that, I'm usually good for the night.

  • @mamanbebe ok good - yes everything I'm googling is saying that most people are deficient.  Sorry that you understand what I'm talking about - it's so hard to explain it to people!
Last night I finally tried an ice pack and that seemed to help, but ugh it's so frustrating!  I'm going to go to whole foods later and pick some up!
  • @cookie510 I hope you have better luck tonight!
  • @cookie510 the other thing that helps me is a weighted blanket. That seems to be perfectly safe to continue to use as well.
