This weeks GTKY is curtesy of @thirdtimesacharm2019! If anyone has any great GTKY ideas feel free to inbox me 😊

So - what’s something that really anyone in your home SHOULD be able to do, but you are the only one who can actually do it?? What’s your mom (or wife) super power?!

Bonus: if you participated in last weeks GTKY, reveal your lie

  • @olivemomma - I'm right there with you: I can (and am expected :| ) to find EVERYTHING around the house. In fact, the sound remote has been "missing" for about 3 weeks and I can tell you that it is under the couch where DH sits, but I refuse to get on my hands and knees and get it. Instead, I make him get up and adjust the volume as needed directly on the sound bar.

I think my other mom super power is being able to get DD1 to take a bath, get dressed, go to bed, pick up toys, put on shoes/jacket/etc, have her hair done, brush her teeth, and/or eat WITHOUT a temper tantrum. Nearly every time I task DH to do so, it ends up with her screaming or crying or him coming out, frustrated. I've tried to explain things a billion times: it's annoyingAF, but if just take your time (and not expect instantaneous compliance) and engage her and talk to her like a capable person ... and these things can be done without all the drama.
    **History in Spoiler**
    Me-35, DH-36 - TTC since 08/10
Me - anovulatory, non-Insulin PCOS, DH - low end of "normal" sperm count
       IUI#1   - 02/15 - Cancelled due to scrubbed sperm count <1MM
       IVF#1  - 08/15 - 13x5-day blastocysts (ranging from AA-BB, most are 5 or 6), not PGS, on ice
       FET#1 - 10/15 - 1 emb - BFP (DD 07/16) (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
       FET#2 - 07/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
       FET#3 - 08/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
FET#4 - 10/17 - 2 emb - BFN (changed to estrace + prometrium because of allergic reaction to PIO sesame oil)
    ERA Testing - 12/17 - window moved (-1 day)
       FET#5 - 03/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
    Karyotype Testing - 04/18 - Negative (we're ok)
       FET#6 - 06/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
       FET#7 - 10/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
FET#8 - 11/18 - 2 emb - BFP; looks like one baby is going to make it, DD is due 8/16 (though likely to be 8/9)

  • Superpower is knowing where everything is in the house, even when its out of place. DH would say my superpower (as defined as something apparently only I can do) is to clean toilets. I think he's cleaned a toilet once since we've been married (6 years).

My lie was the rollover accident. I've never gotten a ticket, let alone been in an accident. I have been nearly hit by lightning 3 times but never truly hit/hurt (running to a car: I grabbed the handle to open the door and the car was hit; camping: the tree next to my tent was hit and lucky exploded in the other directions; and in my house: I was washing dishes when lightning hit the fireplace exhaust and jumped through the vent system to the electrical outlet near me to the faucet...that caused about 20K in damage to the house 9 months after we bought it). I have died twice: once a few minutes after I was born and once while giving birth to DD1.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

THIS^^^^ uggg this is my life and my superpower... they are 15 months and 3 years NOT 10 years, you will need to ask 1000 times and coddle... I would way rather gently nudge along then deal with the inevitable melt down...

ahh and my lie is I'm a veterinarian. I thought about it briefly when I was a teenager but nope, I love meat.

  • @wabash15 a veterinarian?  :D
  • @olivemomma I was going to go with finding/retrieving  things, I know he's only 3, but the number of times "I need my sippy!" "It's on your bed" "No it's not!" *stands-up, walks to room, picks up sippy from where it is lying right on top.* I should charge...
If I have to pick another, I would say handling the the boys between the hours of 4 am and 7 am, I don't know if I can really claim it as a super power because there are times I doze on the couch while they play, but since DH cannot get himself out of bed early in the morning, and they always cry for me even when he manages it, I'm going with it. Most of the day he's their favorite parent, but for some reason first thing in the morning they only want me.

My lie was loving horror movies, I am the youngest of 4, and I applied to my college using a special "early admissions" process which let me go straight from 11th grade to college. My sister and I are 9 years apart, and our favorite game is making people guess which of us is older, no one can do it.

My super wife power is time management.  I can line things up and get it done very efficiently.  It probably stems from my laziness and not wanting to make multiple trips.

  • I was literally talking to my best friend about my super power this morning. My super power is getting more done in 30 minutes than my husband gets done in a day.
  • My superpower is realizing when leftovers need to be removed from the refrigerator. I’ve done experiments and DH/DS1 will let them sit there indefinitely. DS1 helps cook and with dishes so he’s perfectly aware of the last time we had said meal.

Here lately I’m also the only one that knows how to put an empty milk container in the recycling bin. It seems the proper place in my house is on the counter (Which I cannot stand extra stuff on kitchen counters!!!). DS2 is getting it better than the “big boys” and he’s only 6!

It appears I spend a lot of my home time in the kitchen 😂😂.
  • @wabash15 - YES! I mean, is it a pain in the ass to make a little game out of the most trivial shit or act SUPER pumped about an outfit to generate enough enthusiasm to get her out of her pajamas? F@ck yeah it is, BUT ... I'd rather do that for 10-15 min at a time than deal with 4-5 tantrums a day that require 30+ min of tantrum then return-to-normal then start-over. I don't see how it's that damn hard to do!

@agpandme - Absolutely. I like to say I'm efficient, but I'm just lazy. My life is one never-ending Gantt chart, trying to overlap as much as possible to maximize "do nothingness" time in a given day.

@thirdtimesacharm2019 - I swear DH would let the fridge turn into one singular bacterial mold if I let him. How hard is it to throw things out on a rotating schedule? Also ... what's with the empty containers on the counter? The recycling bin is a solid 4 steps from there. Ughhhh. Re: throwing away leftovers - I started passive-aggressively putting ALL leftovers into the fridge in the garage (1 - it's out of my line of sight and - 2 - that's the "adult beverage fridge" so it DOES get thrown out when there's no space for beer to sit in it ... you know, since I don't have a use for that fridge right now ;) ).

  • @MamaK225 That’s a great idea!! I’ll start placing them where he has to move them. I don’t mind being passive aggressive. For a while the dryer sheets (which DH insists we use) kept ending up in my laundry pile... so I started putting them in his jeans and jacket pockets. Also, the kitchen hand towels - like I’m only person who uses them.

(Yes, DH is home all day and just recently started working in the evenings, so he does most of the laundry. I know, I shouldn’t complain).
  • Being a fur baby mom—my super power is getting our dog to let me sleep in. She’s litter box trained (so doesn’t need to go outside) and free feeds (so always has food in her bowl) but she’ll always coming whining to H to wake him up.  If it’s just, she just comes and lays on the bed until I get up.

My lie is that I love the beach. I hate sand and I won’t go in any water where there’s live animals (unless it’s a pool to swim with dolphins). My brothers birthday is the day before mine and I was born in September so I was 17 when I started college.

  • Guys! I THINK I have got all the lies right so far! Haha though I'm too lazy to go back and check all for sure. But it sounds like all the ones I intended to pick haha.

My lie was the spelling bee. I'm a terrible speller lol. (Grammar freak, but shit speller).
I was in the TV show as a child, and lived in the same house (though I moved to a small town for 8 months during paramedic training, but maintained my official address and bedroom at my parents, and went home basically half the weekends).
  • I think my superpower would be to know where DH left something he had not 5 minutes earlier.

My lie was about the broken leg. I've never broken a bone in my life. I do still have 2 baby teeth, and I'm loosely related (4th cousins or something) to Danny Cooksey, from Diff'rent Strokes and Salute Your Shorts.
  • My superpower is planning vacations. I have an iphone note of vacation destinations listed for the next 10ish years (some of them change or get rearranged from time to time). Using points and upgrades typically involves a lot of advanced planning, so I've got that down. I'm already planning our trip for Christmas 2020 to Christmas markets in Austria and Germany. Planning early so we can book business class with points.

My lie was that I'm an avid hunter. I don't like donuts, I'd rather have anything else. And, in college, I was on the Hulk at Islands of Adventure when it stopped as it was going up the incline. They had to come let us out of the seats and we had to walk back down the stairs.
  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 - Sounds like he's already been playing this "game," so enjoy playing back ;)

Fun fact re: my superpower: DD1 got up at 5:15, ready to go. She went into our room (where DH currently sleeps, I'm in the spare room, enjoying the quiet and my Snoogle) and demanded the usual line up: milk and TV. They did foolishly try to come into my room around 5:30 (I'm assuming DH did it to be sweet, not "I'm up, so you're up"), and I had shared that I hadn't been able to sleep from 2:30-5:00 and needed an hour. As I'm drifting off to sleep, I heard DD1 screaming because DH was trying to change her out of her night diaper and into a pull-up. SERIOUSLY!? Sigh. **FFWC** Truth is, I did have difficulty going back to sleep after my bathroom trip, but I really just wanted to sleep since there had been so many nights where there was a 2+ hr gap in sleep and I was still expected to wake up and function per my usual superhero duties :| .

  • @MamaK225 I feel you on the sleep. I’ve barely slept the past few nights (worse than my new normal) and contemplated taking a day off work to sleep... then I realized taking a day off for “no reason” would cause extreme anxiety, then I probably couldn’t sleep...
  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 - I've thought something similar, but then KNEW it would only mean day-sleeping because there is 0% possibility of me not being woken up to get DD1 out the door. And day-sleeping might affect the quality of sleep that night ... endless cycle, endless anxieties.  :#

  • I wonder how I missed this last week, guess remembering things is not my super power, lol. Although, I take pride in making DS stop mid tantrum and cry fest most of the time which is probably my super power.
And my lie was my pets- don't have any pets.
