    • How far along / EDD? 31+3
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Feeling good except for little heart burn. I am traveling to Arizona this week for work and than to St. Louis and I guess this will be the last travel before delivery.
    • Upcoming appointments? Next week
    • Questions? Have you started shopping for car seat, crib, stroller etc ? What options should I consider ? Are there any deals for these ?
    • GTKY: what are some of the midwife tales that came true for your pregnancy. One of the major tales that came true was no or very few symptoms I had from the beginning for a boy baby. Although scary for IF journey, thankful for very little trouble
  • Loading the player...
    • How far along / EDD? 30+4
    • How is everyone feeling this week?  still doing okay, no swelling or reflux... mostly just the frequent peeing in the night and being out of breath when doing stuff. i laughed at amy schumer's video about putting socks on and thought, i'm not there yet... but it's getting close. trying to bend over smushes my diaphragm, so i'm literally breathing heavy/panting as i try to put on my shoes and socks. haha
    • Upcoming appointments? next week for 32 week OB and MFM scan
    • Questions?  what are you most worried about as you enter the final stretch?  the things that have been popping into my head lately have been will i make it to full term... and if i do, will i go into labor naturally or will i need to be induced.  after hearing @kristimh80's induction story... i'm even more worried about not going into labor naturally.
    • GTKY: what are some of the midwife tales that came true for your pregnancy... i don't know them all, but i think i mentioned that i'm not sharing the gender with friends/family even though we know. everyone's been guessing and i think how i'm carrying (high) is a wives' tale for being a girl, so my colleagues are all guessing girl.
@bkatp ugh, doing all the "gear" research was exhausting.  i found lucie's list the most helpful in running you through all the categories of stuff and making recommendations. i didn't always go with them, but her reviews helped me consider what i valued most and wanted when researching.  i think babylist's top 10 things was also a source of help for me.

i ended up selecting the britax travel system. i was trying to find the most lightweight set with good ratings that was also semi-affordable.  uppababy has a super light weight system, but it's in the top-tier price range. the britax comes with an infant car seat and adapters to connect to the transitional stroller. you can also purchase extra car seat bases for multiple cars which we liked (but also think that's standard).  the last thing was that the car seat can also be used WITHOUT the base, so if you were travelling or in a cab or something.  set up was pretty easy, no screw drivers or anything... everything just clicked into place.

my big weekend event was suv shopping.  i currently have a mini cooper which only has 2 doors and tiny trunk, so not baby-conducive.  i think i decided on a Honda HR-V... my husband wanted me to get a big SUV but i'm so used to my tiny car, it was very jarring to be in such a big car. I liked the HR-V b/c the trunk space was large and even bigger when folded down. dunno when we'll pull the trigger, but glad to have narrowed suv options down.  baby shower is this saturday, so i'm ready to start nesting once I have stuff to organize. :)

  • Hi Ladies! So excited to be joining you in the 3rd trimester. It feels great to be in the final stretch. I have a 2yo son from my 1st round of IVF in 2016 and this time we are having a little girl. This pregnancy has been soooo different than my first. I am still having to take nausea meds every day. I think if this had been my first pregnancy, I wouldn't have had another. lol.
    • How far along / EDD? 28w 3D- EDD 6/21 but c-section scheduled for 6/17
    • How is everyone feeling this week? I feel pretty good this week. Just tired.
    • Upcoming appointments? not until I start my every 2 week appointments on the 15th. Still haven't done my GD test which is that day. I feel like it's kind of late this time.
    • Questions?
    • GTKY: what are some of the midwife tales that came true for your pregnancy. - they say having a girl drains all of your beauty and I am feeling that! My skin was breaking out a bunch, my nails are still brittle and break easily. the only thing that wasn't true is I've been having great hair days. lol!
bkatp - I am using the same infant carried that I had for my son since it is only 2 years old and he was only in it for a few months. We switched to a convertible probably by around 6 months. We have used Graco and really liked it. I think it just depends on how much you want to spend. I bought a whole travel system that came with the infant carrier and the stroller. We bought an extra base which made it really easy to switch between my husband's and my car. I've seen them go on sale pretty frequently. I think you can use your 20% off coupons to buy buy baby as well.

  • @northbeach3 Oddly enough, the month before our successful transfer, my car broke down so we had to buy a new one (we weren't risking it breaking down -again-). My husband decided he would give me his car (a hatchback, no complaints) and bought himself a sporty car. He is beating himself up now about not buying something more baby friendly but he keeps reminding himself - 'you weren't pregnant yet!'.

Don't worry too much about the delivery -- it will all work out in its own way. I also had a failed induction and while it wasn't fun, you completely forget about the rough parts when that baby is in your arms. In the end, that's all that matters -- not how you get there.

  • Now I've had the baby, my old wives tales that lots of acid reflux / heartburn meant baby had hair came true lol
I had no symptoms / morning sickness really of being preggo at the start and had a girl. And during pregnancy, my skin and hair was never better. lol I was always planning on looking the worst while pregnant with a girl.

@northbeach3 Your car shopping sounds exciting!!! I use to also have a mini cooper and loved it...esp could basically park anywhere! I ended up trading or a nice sized 4 door car, that still feels sport, as I wasn't ready for a big suv either. Now MH is convinced I need an SUV, of course.

  • welcome to 3rd tri @Griffin5413!  you missed all the babies last week! :) sorry to hear you're still dealing with nausea and on the meds. at least you have them!! people have started asking me how i'm feeling more regularly... i don't want to jinx it b/c i'm still doing okay -- none of the biggies like acid reflux, swelling, or hemorrhoids... just constant peeing and being out of breath. wonder how many more weeks I can make it like this.

lol @kristimh80, yes... despite being a super cute/fun car, i used to live in the San Francisco bay area where street parking is the norm, but also a nightmare. I loved having a tiny car to fit in tiny parallel parking spaces.  my old girl is now 12 years old and is definitely showing her wear.  the sales guy asked me if i'd be trading in and i laughed given that my car has 130K miles on it. i was telling him how fancy all the new gadgets are like back up rear cam and apple play. i said my car was fancy at the time b/c it had a cd player! :D  i'm so used to parallel parking from my sf days, i never needed a back up cam. i was trying to use the one on the kia we test drove to back into the dealer's tight spot. i literally didn't know how to use it and was worried about the big dimensions of the suv and nicking another car.  my husband swears by it, but it makes me uncomfortable to not know the "feel" and dimensions of my own car.  *shrugs*

@mbradfo2 ha, i made my husband purchase a "kid friendly" car when it was his time to upgrade. he also likes the sporty cars, and i said that was fine, but the car had to have four doors so a car seat could fit in the back easily. he was a good sport and found the sporty Ford Focus ST hatchback... of course, it took us 2+ years to get pregnant, but he still seems to be enjoying his car. but now i think he's using my purchase as a chance to get more storage and the ability to haul stuff around since even his hatchback doesnt afford much usable cargo space.

in other news, i found the website to order the breast pump -- I used edgepark and it was a relatively straightforward form that allowed me to put in my OB's contact info, so they'll reach out to her.  I decided to go with the Spectra S2.  Anyone else have experience with this model?  What storage bags go with it?

  • @northbeach3 Yes!!! That's how I was when I got my new car, now looking at suv's I've become a snob because you get so use to all the fancy gadgets and big nav screens, etc. And now living in Texas, I refuse to give up venilated seats due to summer's here. When I got my mini years ago, I had an old bmw that had a million miles on it too. I ended up with the mini 50th anniversary camden and thought it was cool because had an SD card in it that made the mini talk funny things while driving. I remb thinking I was "cool" just for that alone lol I hope you find what you really want!

On the breast pump ? I have a Spectra 2 and like it so far. I tried the hospital's Medela while I was there and it was ok, but I feel like my Spectra does a little better. Granted, my supply has just started coming in. I also ordered a Haakaa hand pump off Amazon. It's been nice to post-bfing let down so you don't waste it in your pads. Girls on my BMB swore by it and it's super cheap!

Our 'family' car is actually a Ford Focus hatchback haha and my husband hates how little space it has! It fits the stroller and that's about it so we usually carry Anne around alot so we have space for groceries/etc. His sports car is one of the civic model sports cars and it's manual so I can't even drive it if I wanted to....

  • @mbradfo2 oh no, that sucks! that's actually the other adjustment i'm going to have to make. i've been driving manuals my whole life... there aren't many manual speed SUVs and they few that there are... they're all the "base" model.  the sales guy told me i wouldn't want to be shifting while driving around a kid, but i didn't appreciate his comment... it's automatic to me now.  the only real time i don't want to drive a manual is in stop and go traffic! :)

@kristimh80 oh so glad to hear you like the spectra!  let me know which storage solution you go with once your get more milk. i tried googling best storage bags and there's a lot of poor ratings for leakage and wonky storage when frozen.  i put some NUK bags on my registry, but i'm curious what it looks like in practice.  the other decision was to try to pump directly into the bags or into the bottles then pour into bags. i get the sense that most bags are not "accurate" in calculating amount pumped, so seems like a lot of women used the bottles then poured into bags.

@Griffin5413 welcome. My SIL has nausea right until her delivery with my niece.

Thank  you both for the suggestion on travel systems. I saw a travel system in amazon for 180$ I think I like that I’ll go with that. Also I am planning to go with Graco pack and play for baby for sometime.

@northbeach3 I feel and fear exactly same as you do. I keep telling myself that once I cross 32 weeks he is safe in nicu once he crosses 35 weeks he may not need nicu. And yes after reading all induction stories I am also worried about going beyond 39 weeks. But I guess I am preparing myself for c section as well.

We are also shopping for SUV. One of our car is Chevy equinox which is a 2014 suv but has 90k on it. So planning to take a newer version. I consider my husband as car crazy person so I let him do all the work.

@northbeach3 I ordered Madela electric pump which is wired but can be operated by battery as well.
  • I have the spectra 2 and love it. I don't mind being tied to an outlet - it's become my "me time" and I'll catch up on netflix or on my phone and have come to find it relaxing (as relaxing as pumping can be at least!). I've seen some women order a battery pack from amazon and attach it to the spectra 2 which makes it portable then. I pump into the spectra bottles and then either pour into a medela bottle (since that what Abigail drinks from) or into the target brand milk storage bags. We've had no issues with them over the past almost 11 months! We had some freebie Lanisoh ones and those are the only ones that we had some leaking with when defrosting.
  • @northbeach3 I ended up with the Medela storage bags. But mainly been dumping into other clean slow-flow / newborn bottles for the time being.

@bkatp Your smart by letting your husband do all the work! I've looked so much, that I've about talked myself out of it.

  • I really have no negative feelings about my c-section. It was quick, pretty much painless with the drugs, and I had a quick recovery. Your mileage may vary, of course. I was pretty much prepared for one since my RE said my cervix was super long and thick at my scans and said that greatly increases the chances that you end up with a c-section.

  • @mtpbadger interesting tip about the target brand bags... i also saw some positive reviews on another board for those as well as the ones sold at kroger -- called comfort, i think? seems like leakage during defrosting process is most common for the big name brands like lanisoh.

@bkatp oh, i definitely let the DH do all the research/comparisons. i told him i wanted a crossover, not a full sized suv... and my top asks were good cargo space/lay-flat backseat and good turning radius. lol he made me a google sheet with all the specs and then i looked at photos and we went to do some test drives. all of the things to cross of the list are endless... but slowly making progress!

  • @northbeach3 - just think of having to turn around every 5 seconds to entertain your toddler and give them a snack or a toy or whatever else it is they keep asking for (when they get to that age  ) as the equivalent to stop and go traffic. lol. I really enjoyed driving a manual but I can tell you that I would hate it now with a toddler in the backseat and a new infant on the way!
@bkatp- I'm thinking that is going to be the case with me too. My ob said that since I'm only on diglecis it's not harmful to the baby so I'm not even tempted to try to not take it anymore. At least it's working. With my son, I threw up 1 time the entire pregnancy.

  • @northbeach3 I pumped directly into the Lansinoh bags. The volume on the bags was wrong for anything below 2 oz and it accurate above that. I ended up putting an ounce of water in an empty bag to get a feel for the correct amount. I had a handful of issues with the bag getting a small tear at the ziplock area until i got the hang of putting the bag on/off. I didn't have any issues with the bag leaking during defrost or storage. But I rarely thawed in hot water, mostly thawed in the fridge. I used a ton of bags (46/week), but not dealing with the hassle of dumping into storage bags was awesome.
  • Wow, it’s only half way through the week and the thread is super busy!!
    • How far along / EDD? 32wks
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Overall, good but still have the acid reflux, slightly more tired now. I also had my baby shower this past weekend and it turned out really great! I don’t really enjoy being the center of attention so I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve notice some mild swelling since the baby shower too. And LO is definitely making his presence more pronounced with more movements / kicks.
    • Upcoming appointments? 4/16 with ob regular check up.
    • Questions?
    • GTKY: what are some of the midwife tales that came true for your pregnancy. - I’m really not familiar with them. But I’m assuming this baby boy will be suppppeer or better be super hairy like his dad for me to be suffering with the acid reflux.
  • hi ladies, hope you had a good week! just wanted to check in re: a few questions.

i assume entering 3rd tri brings new changes... just wanted to check what was normal/within reason.

    *TMI warning!*
discharge -- more of it? what would be concerning?  at first i thought i was just hot and had more crotch sweat than usual, but then i think i realize the toilet paper was a bit more soaked than normal after using the restroom. guess i should start using panty liners again.

also, what does weight gain look like in 3rd trimester? i'd been putting on significant weight in 2nd trimester, sometimes more than the 2 lbs/week, but it seems to have slowed/even reversed.  it's been a busy week, so i think i have been eating/snacking less, but i lost 5 lbs from the start of the week. i'd been eating out a lot last weekend which i think lead in increased sodium/water weight, so loosing some of it makes sense, and i know my food intake was also less this week... i assume everything is within reason, but i thought i'd check.

  • @northbeach3 I went thru something similar. I swear, a lot of days, I felt like I was peeing myself a little down there! They told me also after around 32 weeks, baby would gain around 1/2 a pound a week. But I swear for me, my own weight gain seemed to fluctuate depending on how much water I was retaining. And when reached around 36 weeks, I started gaining a lot, where it was very obvious I was preggo. I went from strangers never saying anything, to them all asking when baby was due and making comments.

@northbeach3 I can also vouch about discharge. I feel more liquidy.

My weight has been fluctuating from the beginning.one appointment I gain nothing another I gain a lot
  • For those worrying about weight, don't! I can attest, it all melts away very quickly as soon as baby is born. Nothing else, soon as you deliver, you'll feel "skinny". It sounds crazy, but I remember a couple days after thinking...gosh I look skinny, even thought I still had a 4-5 month preggo bump  :D But every day, I've noticed everything going down a lot. Long as you are happy and baby is good...try not to worry. It'll all be over so fast at this point!

@bpietronicco good to know that you are being monitored closely. And swelling is common after 34 weeks I think. But you have 4 weeks more that’s it
  • @bpietronicco sorry to hear about the swelling... sounds like @mrsyng has been dealing with it too. hope you've been managing your GD and that you have good updates from your upcoming visits.  you're getting so close!!
