I was planning to take a half-day so I could get my hair trimmed (it's been six months) and get a pedicure - mostly because DH makes such a big deal for me getting 60-75 (depending on wait and traffic) to get a pedicure ONCE A MONTH. You know, when I often tell him to go see a movie - he's a big movie guy and I'm just not in the mood to pay for a sitter, stress about times, etc. - at least as often. SIGH. Anyway. Instead of doing that, I'm feeling petty. So I made an appt to get my haircut AND get a pedicure right after and then come back to work; and if anyone says anything, I'll just blame it on having to wait a little bit before I was able to get in the chair for my haircut :D #comeatmebro #didnthavetousevacation #ireallydoneedavacation

ETA: the original plan was a half-day because I live about 30 min away and was going to do these things in that town. Current plan is doing it all in the town I work in, so it's a 1.5 mi drive there and then 1.5 mi drive back.

  • @wabash15 in the winter I usually only shower once a week...
  • @wabash15 I debated last night on the last time I washed my hair. I'm still not 100% sure. I'm guessing it is a side effect of pregnancy, but my hair looks fine, I'm loving this. (i used to have to wash it every other day)

  • @EmilyA724 I gained 20 pounds in one month with DS 1 (I think it was month 6 or 7)... 60 lbs total.... then 69 total with DS2... I’m alreadv up 20+ on this one. I just can’t stop eating when I’m pregnant.
  • @peachy0709 at least she is having a party. DS turns 3 on Tuesday and we aren't even doing a party for him.  He has a doctor's appt in the morning, that afternoon he will stay home with DH while I take DD to OT and dance, then we will come home to do pizza, cake, ice cream and presents just the 4 of us.

About a month ago I signed DS up for a parent tot sports sampler class at the Y on Friday mornings. I pulled him from it after 1 week because I missed our lazy Fridays and did not feel like chasing him around a semi structured environment. We were going to start a different sports sampler class next session (he will now be old enough for no parent) but none of the times are super convenient. He is doing soccer instead because it is the same time as DDs gymnastics class. Poor second child.

I really hate the amount of pressure put on women to only gain a certain amount during pregnancy. Some workout and eat well and gain 60+, others only gain 15 with no effort. When I saw a NP around 11 weeks she made a rude comment about how I was clearly eating because I gained 2 pounds in 1 week. As of Monday I am somehow only up 3 total (trust me, I have PLENTY to spare) and I have been sitting on the couch, eating whatever sounds good. With my other 2 I gained right around 30 total and imagine this one will probably be similar in the end.

  • @Beauxbaton - Same! I try to keep up on the few that I'm in, but that's about all I can handle. If there's more than like 10, I'll consider dropping out :D

I think as long as numbers (sugar, blood pressure, etc) stay in check - who cares. I mean, you don't want to put on triple digits, but ... some people just gain more. Especially the ones who started out thin. Thankfully, I have plenty of reserves and I'm still chilling where I am.

I have gotten on a schedule where I wash my hair on Wednesdays and Sundays, but shower every night. And I'm about to ask my housekeeper if we can move from a semi-monthly to a weekly schedule when I hit around 30 weeks because I just don't know what I'll be up for at that point.

  • @olivemomma - I'm there with you on the laundry baskets ... that was me for 2-3 weeks until this past week. Sometimes you just need a break. I've also resolved to teach DD1 where/how to put away her laundry in the coming weeks. FX.

  • @olivemomma our robot vaccum was one of the best purchases ever! It really helps with cleaning up the animal hair and crumbs so thay we do not need to lug out the big vacuum as often.

I have been behind on laundry for the majority of the past few months. We had it covering our kitchen table for a few weeks so we were eating in the living room or at the island. About a week ago I got caught up on laundry and was so proud...clearly that did not last.

  • Aww thank you ladies! You made me feel better!❤️
  • @Avrilmai I thought it was just me!  I take a shower every night but only get my hair wet/wash my hair every night.  But lately I’ve been able to get away with washing my hair every 3-4 nights!
  • @chillycanadian when I was pregnant with my first I was with a different ob than I am now. He wanted me to take the glucose test at 18 weeks even though I have no family history of diabetes or anything. When I asked him why he grabbed my stomach fat and said "because of this." I found a new doctor the next week.
  • Wow! @Beauxbaton! That is Completely unacceptable!!!!! 😠😠😠 How could he possibly think that was ok?!

I got sick of my hair and cut off about 8 inches a few days ago.  No ragrets lol

Your weight gains are making me feel better.  I dont' keep a home scale and according to my doctors scale I gained 7 lbs in 1 month. Thats with a full bladder and full clothed.  I was really shocked to see a number that I've never seen in my life.  I know I went into this pregnancy heavy (Looking at you Thanksgiving and Christmas), but the number had me reeling. I know the weight is temporary but I really don't want to gain that quickly.

  • My last pregnancy I think I was weighed 3 times total,  all optional. "Do you want to see how much you weigh today?" And then I could tell her the number or not as I liked. One at intake,  one at the end,  and one in the middle for curiosity.  Maybe it would be different if there was a specific big concern about it,  but it seems they make it into SUCH a big deal in North America and I've had so many friends stressing about weight during pregnancy.  :'(

They also don't even do the glucose test here unless your blood sugar is high (which they measure regularly) or unless you've had it before/runs in the family.  But no general population glucose test.

    TTGP history (*TW*):

    Started TTC Oct 2015
    BFP #1 June 2016: EDD 16 March 2017, MC July 2016
    Re-started TTC Aug 2016
    Started IF testing Nov 2016
Spontaneous BFP #2 January 2017: Rainbow Baby Boy September 2017
    BFP #3 November 2018: Baby #2 expected August 2019

  • My midwife has never weighed me and when I asked this week if I should be doing anything about weight, she was just like eat well and healthy. I only know what I gained thus far because the internal specialist weighed me for my thyroid appointment. I don’t even own a scale. North America puts too much pressure on weight. Unless you’re eating unhealthy and baby is being impacted, live life. Your body will gain what it wants/needs.

Also, like @BigBadWolf12, they don’t do the glucose test here unless those same reasons. I have to do it because I’m indian origins so higher chance and my sister has diabetes. But my sugar has always been fine so without those two, I wouldn’t have too.

  • I'm pretty sure at the clinic I go to if you decline it they treat you like you have GD
  • Even though I started my pregnancy "heavier" (5'7" and also a size 12, @chillycanadian), my OB hasn't commented about my weight once. He knew it was a sore subject for me with DD1 - when I had switched to him at 16-17 weeks from my original OB who was just awful. My weight/size trending nearly identical with DD2 so he's not concerned (and doesn't comment on it). I don't test for GD until 28 weeks; I was kind of surprised because I swear I did it at 24 with DD1 and he seems to be really hung up on the AMA aspect this time around. I would think if I'm higher risk, I would be tested earlier, but I'm ok waiting a few more weeks. I just hope they have the same "flavor," I hear the others are just awful.
