Total newb question, but there's no u/s at the 16 week right? Just listening for the heartbeat and maybe a urine sample? I'm worried that they'll miss if something is wrong.
@themadcamel No ultrasound at 16 weeks for me. Just a routine appointment. Next U/S is 20 weeks, then at I believe 36 weeks for a growth scan? I cant recall exactly when the last one is (but that could be because I'm over 35, I don't recall getting a 3rd scan with my first)
@themadcamel Honestly, it depends on your OB. Usually there are only three US’s per non-high risk PG (dating, NT and Anatomy)...but my OB did a random one at like 32 wks because the equipment was there and she wanted to, lol. (Naturally I freaked out because WHOA CHANGE and I thought it was going to cost me more money...damn you US healthcare system 🤣)
Officially confirming gender on Wednesday at an elective ultrasound (blood test with SneakPeek said girl at 9 weeks but I'm such a skeptic! And I wanna see baby more!) Then we have a regular 16 week appt Thursday! We have the anatomy scan exactly one month from today on May 1st! Eeeeekkk!
16 week appt tomorrow and AS 4/26. With a typical low risk pregnancy in my town we only get the scan at 20 weeks. I’ve had a couple complications so I have had 2 looks at baby already! And with my first I had one at 41+2 to make sure everything was still ok.
@kiddiesandkitties@MsBeachNJ thanks, I guess that sounds about right. I think I was spoiled early on because I had a couple of scares. I’ll just have to ride it out until the anatomy scan! @lillywonderland I have a coworker whose husband is Canadian. He’s pushing her to move to Canada/become a citizen for when they get pregnant. I’d be seriously considering it!
@themadcamel I can’t imagine thinking about how much having a baby costs in the US. And if you have higher risk meaning more tests which I assume means more money? Craziness. Being a Canadian definitely has its perks!
@kraane it really is a pain in the ass. I think maaaybe insurance covers some of the extra things if you're high risk, but I'm not 100% sure. It depends on whatever policy you have and difference between policies and companies can be drastic.
@kraane I was high risk my entire 3rd trimester with DS. I was being seen by my obgyn plus an MFM and having numerous tests per week including non stress tests, growth scans etc. I had q csection and we were in the hospital 11 days. We had EXCELLENT insurance and only had 2 $20 copays OOP.
NT scan (I think?) on the 10th. I've already been told that if they don't cooperate I'll be back in that week and/or the next for the tech to finish.
I have decent insurance, they cover just about all of everything, for the year I have to hit 2k in deductibles before they go up to the next level. Total oop for the year is 5k and then they cover 100%. I know I'll be hitting that with this pregnancy and we budgeted for it.
@lillywonderland - that's my first thought with the ultrasounds too - I'm like errrr is this considered normal? WIll they pay for all of this? I'm currently battling my insurance over the bloodwork at my 8w appt. It was coded "missing menstruation" or something but not "pregnancy" so they were refusing to cover it. ::eye roll::
My next appointment is the anatomy scan at a little over 20w. I accidentally planned an entire work trip at 18w-20w so I have to wait until after 20 to see my little guy/gal again!

I just had my 16 week appointment with my doc. Not much new. Heard the heartbeat, had my ultrasound requisition printed to book my 20 week U/S.
The exciting thing is that I met with a midwife, and she is taking me on as a patient for this pregnancy! In my province it is extremely hard to get in with a midwife. We don't have nearly enough and it is regulated by our health care so it regulates how many patients each can see and how many midwives we actually have. I had less than a 50% chance of getting in, and thanks to a few connections I have, I was successful! So excited as I was really unhappy with my doctor's care, and now I can have a say with how my labour and delivery will go!
I had my 16w appointment today. My OB said as she was reviewing my chart in preparation for my appointment she finally saw my message about my headaches. I haven't had as many of them but when I do the intensity is pretty bad. She's happy that tylenol is helping and thinks it's probably just hormonal. But if they get worse and/or the tylenol stops working she will send me back to my neurosurgeon for evaluation. I am super happy she said that. I got the vibe that she actually understands my condition in my particular case. I'm liking her more after today's appointment.
On another note, I had mentioned in the weekly updates that my breast has been itchy and I have this bruised looking mark in the same spot. It's not all over, and only in one boob. It started about a month and a half ago and hasn't really changed. When I first noticed it I googled itchy breast and the first thing that came up was inflammatory breast cancer. I laughed it off because of course you Google any symptom the first thing that comes up is cancer. Well a week ago I decided to Google bruised looking mark on breast and the same thing popped up, inflammatory breast cancer. Needless to say I had a major panic attack. Not only do I have one symptom of this but two. So I brought it up at my appointment today. She thinks it's probably just hormonal but does think it's weird that the itching is in one specific spot only and there's the bruise (although the bruise could be from itching, not really sure). She's sending me to get an ultrasound of the spot and I'm so freakin relieved. I truly don't think it's IBC but I'm so happy she's not just brushing it off, even if she is just doing it to ease my mind.

@LJMoon6 very sorry you're dealing with the itchy spot (and headaches), that sounds stressful!, but that's great your OB is getting it checked out and was understanding of your concerns about the headaches too. ETA: good luck at the ultrasound! I really hope it's nothing to worry about.
@LJMoon6 Is there a lump at all in that spot? Or is IBC different from the “traditional” BC? I had an u/s a few years ago for a pea sized lump in my breast that turned out to be nothing but a cyst that went away. FX it is nothing!!
Thanks ladies! You all are so amazing. @lillywonderland There's no lump. My OB couldn't feel anything either. From what little research I've done on it (I haven't done much because I don't want to freak myself out more than I already am) it sounds like IBC is different than regular BC. It's cancer in the lymph node and there's usually no lump. It's super fast growing and has usually spread by the time it's caught. If there's any Grey's Anatomy fans out there, I think it's the same cancer that Maggie's mom died of.

@LJMoon6 I'm glad to hear your doctor is listening to you and being proactive. I hope its nothing but best to have it checked out for sure! When will you know the results of the ultrasound?
@LJMoon6 I’m glad that your doctor is being proactive and sending you for follow up. The waiting must be so stressful.
On a semi related but but much more light hearted note, a while back I had this weird red spot near my nipple. It was sore and swollen and literally like a second nip and H and the kids all got a big ol kick out of it. I got all paranoid and scheduled a doctors appointment and the night before, I squeezed it and pop - it was a full blown big swollen pimple. WTF?! Disgusting and hysterical. It was literally totally gone the next morning.
