I haven't really tried any pranks as an adult, but my sister and I pulled a prank on my dad when we were kids, and it was epic. We still tell the story every year on April Fools Day.
My dad was a pretty straight-laced, strict parent, and he expected my sister and I to be on our best behavior at all times. And for the most part, we were. We were perfectly behaved, got great grades in school, and never got in trouble. Our elementary school had something called an "Opportunity Room," which was a small room off of the main office where kids were sent when they misbehaved. It was basically an in-school detention, I guess named for your "opportunity" to learn from your mistakes and do better next time. The room had a desk in it, and you were expected to reflect on your poor behavior, have a quick chat with the school principal, and write a note of apology to your teacher. And when you were sent to the Opportunity Room, the principal would write up a pink "Opportunity Room Slip" detailing your offense, and both your teacher and the principal would sign it, and you had to take it home to your parents to sign.
Obviously, my sister and I were perfect angels and were never sent to the opportunity room. But on my sister's last year in elementary, she had a really fun natured teacher who helped her get a fake "Opportunity Room Slip" for both of us, signed by the teacher and principal. The slip said my sister and I were messing with a kid during recess, and we shoved him off the play structure, where he fell and hit his chin, needing to be sent to the hospital for stitches.
I remember walking home to our dad, and he happened to be outside washing his car when we got home from school. We acted our hearts out, walking up to him with gloomy faces and pretending to be ashamed and scared. We told him we got in trouble and that we had both been sent to the Opportunity Room. I will never forget the look of shock and disappointment on his face when we both pulled pink Opportunity Room Slips out of our backpacks. He was super calm while we read them, and said something about how disappointed he was in us. It felt like the whole thing lasted hours, but I'm pretty sure we lasted about 30 seconds before shouting, "April Fools!!"
I was always the well behaved kid in school but for some reason in 3rd grade I took it upon myself to organize classwide pranks on my teacher for April fool’s day. There were some classics in there (*cough cough* overused cliches *cough*) like a whoopee cushion under the pillow on the teacher’s chair, and chalk stuffed in the eraser so it drew when you tried to erase. It was all hilarious for a group of 8/9 year olds, and my poor teacher was a good sport about it.
So my grandpa was born on April 1st and he’s always been a good prankster, not just on April fools day. One time we went up to his house to visit and where the bathroom entrance was was now a book shelf and I was like what the heck where did the bathroom go?! And he just casually said “we made it a secret entrance, figure it out” and I kept pulling everything off, and couldn’t figure it out, until a couple hours later when I had to go to the bathroom so I just walked around the hallway and they just changed the entrance to another wall that you couldn’t see from the original room when they remodeled 😑 he thought he was pretty funny for that one!
As for myself, it wasn’t a huge one, but MH always complains that I screw the toothpaste cap on too tight, so last night I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth and when I went to screw the cap back on I was like I’m going to tighten this so hard and I was dying while doing it and he was in our room just a couple feet away. He went to brush his teeth probably 5 minutes later and I can’t even keep it together laying in the bed under the covers cracking up! I wanted to play it cool like I had no idea what he was talking about but I totally failed 😂 he walks into our room and goes “Ash! Are you kidding me?! This is out of control!” Holding the tooth paste and I just busted out laughing. So I guess it was worth it because I had such a good time 🤣 he said his fingers hurt after finally getting it open.

I am pretty gullible (or I prefer to think TRUSTING!), so I have fallen for many 'a prank!
