OK, Sorry to get philosophical on you all, but anyone else feel like they're just pretending to be an adult? There are times I have to remind myself that I have a job, husband, 2 kids, a mortgage, all that stuff... And other times I remember but it feels like, "who thought it was a good idea to trust me with this stuff, I'm just a kid." DH's 30th birthday is in 2 weeks, and it feels like there is no way we can be there yet...
@mrosek91 Yes. I’m about to turn 35 in less than 2 weeks, and I have to say this is the first age that really has me saying “wow, when did I get so old?!” Meanwhile I don’t feel old at all. I love having the responsibility and life we have, but sometimes I dream of making stupid decisions on a whim like my younger days.
The other day I read something that was roughly "you become an adult, when you realize all the other adults are just pretending to feel like adults" Or something
Any Honda Odyssey owners?? I’m pretty sure we have decided on this as the family car. I was wondering if anyone has it and recommends a particular model? I definitely want navigation and entertainment for the kids so will get at least the EX-L but considering upgrading to the touring. I think the Elite is a little much unless I can find one just a year old at a great deal with low mileage but am open to suggestions if it has a feauture I just have to have!
@olivemomma we have an odyssey and love it. Though we have an EX. for us we didn't need the other features. I think if we did splurge we might go up to the EX-L but think the higher trims probably aren't worth it. @mrosek91 totally pretending to be an adult and I'll be 40 this year.

Is a video monitor really necessary? We have an average-sized house and the bedrooms are all on the same side. I'm wondering if I'll spend more time checking a video monitor incessantly than really necessary and if an old school audio monitor is just fine.
We live in the middle of nowhere on land, so Wifi interference is unlikely.
@mrosek91 I think what finally did it for me was having coworkers younger than me. Until my current job I was always the youngest, by a whole generation at my last job. But we moved to a neighborhood with mostly older families about two years ago and I feel like I have a justify to myself that I belong here as much as they do. Sometimes I still question my “adultness”.
@oklahomak I find them necessary. If I hear a noise, I like being able to check what the noise was before going in. Also, because I'm a little neurotic, I found it comforting to make sure DD was breathing before I went to sleep. We still use the video to watch DD during "nap time" (ie playing in her room for 2 hours) and at night before she falls asleep. However, many people are completely fine with just audio. I think it really depends on you.

@oklahomak we have a video monitor in all kid rooms. I'd say its necessary for us -- big house, kid rooms on complete opposite ends. But probably the best feature of them is when the kids are a little older you can see what they are up to without cracking open the door. Also, we have the type that you can talk to them over the camera. I call it the "voice of God" and it has gotten kids back in bed laying down or being quiet many times.

I used Samsung last time and really liked it, but we need a new camera and it seems to be discontinued. I think this time I'm going to go with Hello Baby. Some features I have found to be essential were VOX (the monitor turning off and then turning back on if there is a noise), 2-way talk, and pan and zoom.

@oklahomak to give you the opposite end, we don't even have a monitor. Our house is on the smaller size, and the boys both have good lungs. Occasionally if there's a noise in the middle of the night my husband will joke about getting me an infrared camera, but for the most part we're totally fine without it. I have an obsessive personality, and tend to be a worrier, so for me anyway I can force myself to calm down, and step back is healthier. But that's a very personal decision.
@sourlemon I eyed the Pacifica! DH just had a Chrysler lemon once so that’s a tough sell with him. It’s crazy how excited I am about a minivan - makes me feel old!
@oklahomak we have an audio only monitor and it works great for us. we don't really need to see whats going on, if they are super fussy we just go in...

@olivemomma We've had a bad experience with our Honda CR-V (trunk won't open in cold weather) despite taking it to the dealer several times. So...MH is considering a Pacifica over another Honda.
@mrosek91 yes! All the time! I’m 38 and don’t feel like it. Maybe it’s because we don’t have kids yet but I’ve often thought that I don’t feel like an adult.
@olivemomma We have a Honda Odyssey (2019 EX-L w/ RES & navigation). Love it! The ONLY feature I’ve thought about wanting (which I could still get as an upgrade) is the heated steering wheel for the winter. But that’s being pretty picky! Otherwise, it’s got everything I could want or need!

I got a fairly inexpensive one so I haven't committed too much money to it but I think it'll be good to be able to see if he's awake vs. the potential of waking him up.
Does anyone’s stomach get really tight in the afternoon\evening? My stomach has been getting so tight lately all afternoon and evening. Not like what I would think Braxton Hicks would be where it’s tightening and loosening. It just stays tight. Then there’s one spot a little bit higher than my belly button but farther to the right that’s really tender to the touch. Is that normal?
@purplg8r - I don’t notice tightening at specific times of the day, I just notice that there are certain days where my belly feels tight in general...it happened with my last pregnancy too, and I’ve always attributed it to baby growth spurts and my belly needing to stretch and expand. Everyone expands differently! Not sure what to say about your tender spot, tho. I had some tenderness last pregnancy when my abs started to split apart (diastastis recti), but that was definitely on my midline and much later in the pregnancy (3rd trimester). Maybe ask your OB next time you’re in?
@oklahomak we had an audio only monitor for a while. Switched to a video monitor and love it. DD is pretty quite in the mornings so it's nice to peek in to see if she's awake before we go in there. Also I like watching her weird sleeping positions. It cracks me up.
After delivery, what size clothes do you wear? I know everyone is different. I read some places say wear the same size home, some day bring what you fit into at 7 months pregnant. Any guidance from STM+?
@jrm_14 leaving the hospital I usually fit into clothes that I was wearing around 6 months. I always shower as soon as I can after delivery and change into real clothes because hospital gowns drive me crazy. My clothing preference for those first few days to weeks is flowy tops that are easily accessible for nursing with comfortable pants.

@jrm_14 I was every bit as big as 7 months (if not bigger) when I came home. I actually checked out of the hospital 6 lbs less than when I checked in (and DS2 was 9+ lbs, so not sure how that happened...). My belly wasn’t as round, but all the “mass” was still there. I would suggest a long, flowy, sundress since it will be summer. Pants are a no-go for me with repeat c-section. My sister in law, on the other hand, jumped up and put on regular (button & zip) jeans the day after (with a vaginal delivery). So it really varies person to person.
You'll look cutter than you feel and it will for and be comfier for a wider range of shape/size change than bottoms/tops separate.
If you prefer bottoms/tops separate, I'd plan for stretchy/maternity clothes. I didn't feel like I had a huge tummy leaving the hospital but I had a bunch of surgery gauze/bandaging over my c section incision that bulked up the area anyways.

@mrosek91 15 min before reading your post, I was actually thinking about how my 33rd birthday is next week and I’m having a baby, and it just won’t be appropriate to think of myself as a kid playing grownup anymore. Gland to know many of us are just “pretending”!
I wore scrub pants into the hospital and wore the same scrubs home (DH washed them). I have c sections so need something loose and comfy. Pajama pants also work well for a while. With my first, I wore a skirt home that I could pull up above the incision. I will bring both scrub pants and the skirt this time.
I wore maternity clothes for a few weeks after each kid. It takes time for the puff to go down and I was so swollen after each one. I left the hospital heavier than I walked it (thanks IV) but lost 15 pounds within the first 10 days with each (all water weight).
