Thirsty Thursday, 3/28

We've been talking quite a bit about food, but how about drinks?
How are y'all staying hydrated these days?  Anything you're loving that you don't normally drink very often?

Re: Thirsty Thursday, 3/28

  • I've been drinking a lot of lattes and fancy coffee drinks. I usually just drink coffee with cream, but I'm craving the sweets. Plus I feel like I'm getting less caffeine because it is basically all milk and sugar. Should this be a FFFC? Also, I wonder why I'm gaining so much weight 😂.

  • @kgg2241 I wish I could stand coffee! Ever since getting KU I have zero appetite for it. It was my crutch 😩

I’ve never been a big drinker. I could go all day and have only drank coffee or a La Croix, so getting enough fluids in general is a struggle for me. I’m trying to make trips to the water cooler every 2 hours so I can get in some water and steps.

Im normally a soda water drinker, but Dr. Pepper has been sounding so good lately. I might have to cave soon.
  • MAMAS - I need your go-to mocktail recipes. Texas summers are NO JOKE and we spend a lot of time outdoors/on patios/on our boat. What are you guys drinking to stay cool, refreshed and hydrated?

I got through last summer with ice + plain la croix + a splash of juice or lemonade (usually cranberry). Anyone else doing any mocktail mixing?
  • I actually posted this for selfish reasons because I am THIRSTY recently and usually drink water all day.  Water just isn't appealing.  I've been adding True Lemon packets to it, which is helping, but I'm hoping for some new ideas!!
Lemonade and Gatorade have been tasting pretty good, but I don't want all the extra calories.  Artificial sweeteners give me stomach problems (is that a thing for other people?) so diet or reduced calorie stuff doesn't work.  I drink soda water with a splash of juice when I get home from work.

@duewithpu2 Dr. Pepper does sound delicious!!  I haven't had that in forever!
  • I've been longing for decent mocktails lately.

I generally drink excess amounts of seltzer water all day long (and am with @duewithpu2 on being a very sparse hydrater in general - I really have to force myself to keep drinking all day and honestly only have been in hope to keep the headaches at bay).  I have 1 8 or 12oz can of sugar free redbull every morning (which is WAY DOWN from my pre-preg self of 1-2 16oz's) and then force a few glasses of water and/or seltzers thru the day.

I've been drinking big glasses of flavored seltzer with a splash of gatorade or lemonade at night, or an iced tea (we hit David's Tea HARD a few weeks ago), or a hot tea if I'm freezing, or a glass of de-alcoholized wine (I buy St. Regis at the grocery store - I don't care for the Fre brand).  I also like a ginger beer at the end of the day (tho am still trying to find a brand I really like).

We have a few local restaurants with a decent mocktail menu.  As the weather warms up, I'd like to get some ginger, blueberry syrup, fresh mint, etc. to make some yummies around the house.
  • @nomangos23 I've actually been loving virgin moscow mules lately! H loves them so we make them often and I just have him mix mine without vodka and it's still so tasty! It makes me feel like I'm indulging even though it's just Ginger Beer, lime and crushed ice lol.

  • @RedBreast35 Artificial sweeteners make me sick to my stomach, too.  They always have.  Even in gum!  Plus the literature says they're not good for baby, so it's a good thing you don't want them!

I'm boring on yet another front!  I drink copious quantities of water KU or not.  Living in CO helps with it as it's dry AF here.  :)  I drink ~150oz of water daily, regardless of whether I'm harboring another living being inside of my body.  I was on a La Croix/Bubly/other brands kick for awhile before getting pregnant, but it gives me heartburn now (booo), so I'm back to plain ol' water all day e'ry day.
  • @RedBreast35 if you’re a Malibu fan, I’ve seen some recipes that substitute the Malibu with Coconut La Croix!
  • Water but now that it is getting nice out I'm breaking out the sparkling water to feel fancy. Pretty boring over here.
  • I drink tea all day (English Breakfast as my first cup, then it’s various flavors of green tea the rest of the work day). At night I drink crystal light, but I make it in like 24oz instead of the “reccomended” 16oz size. I really abhor plain old water.
  • I love Spindrift sparkling water.  I think mango and the half tea/half lemon are my favorites.  @nomangos23 I keep getting ads for Curious Elixirs on instagram.  They make mocktail mixers.  If it every warms up here, I may give them a try.
  • I absolutely suck at getting the recommended amount of water in every day. I feel guilty about it. I have OJ in the morning, I carry a water bottle with me all day that I'm supposed to fill 3 times to hit my amount, but I struggle most days to even finish 2 fillings of it. And ever since I was PG with my first daughter, blue gatorade is my go to. I limit it to 1 a day because sugar & calories, but Its the best way I know I can at least not get dehydrated!

  • @kgg2241 I've been getting lattes for the same reason when we get coffee on the weekends - DH always has some and always comments on how milky it is and I'm like, that's the point!
I've been struggling with plain water too - normally I don't have a problem drinking a ton of it, but it just isn't appealing now and I'm having to force it down; and sparkling water is the same. But I haven't found a good alternative. I drink tea in the morning. I like gatorade, but usually just drink a little before the idea of all the sugar has me putting it back in the fridge for later. I've been drinking root beer as a stand in for dessert this past week, lol.
  • Gas station slushies, Chic-fil-a lemonade, and half water half Gatorade mixes.
  • I've been drinking plain water all day every day, and so far so good. I have one of those giant Swell bottles (they fit a whole bottle of wine BTW...) that I try to fill at least once in the morning, once at lunch, and once when I get home from work. Plain milk and chocolate milk has also been hitting the spot every few days.

@nomangos23 I wanted a bellini last weekend so my husband tried out a couple different recipes. My favorite was just peach juice, ginger ale, and frozen berries (you're supposed to blend it with ice but I liked it not blended). I honestly didn't even miss the champagne.
  • @nomangos23 I'm looking for some good summer drinks too! My mom makes these coconut rum drinks while camping every summer that I think would be good without the rum. It's just lemonade, 7up, and pineapple juice. Super good and refreshing during the summer.

@cammie0526 Peach juice and ginger ale sounds sooo good too! Any juice with a splash of sprite or ginger ale I think would be really good.

  • @sparkles5275 We get Spindrift some. It's the only stuff I can find actually flavored with real fruit. Having something out of a can is extra special too!
  • I’ve been trying and failing to drink more water. I hardly had any today because I was busy at work. I’m a Diet Pepsi fan but have been making sure to limit because of caffeine. Though you need to drink a lot to get to 200 mg. Some days though...

I crave milk when pregnant for some reason. When I was pregnant with my son, I would drink 2 gallons a week by myself. It hasn’t gotten to that point yet this time, but damn a cold glass of milk is so good.
  • I drink water and tea, although I can’t find a satisfying tea these days. I want something simple and fruity/herbal! Nothing is hitting the spot! Will probably move on to iced tea when it gets warmer. Spring is in the air! Yay! As for a mocktale.. I love juice or lemonade mixed with seltzer water, and even throw frozen fruit in with it 😁
  • @blitzybee I just had this tea for the first time this am - it was quite good!

  • @janat1717 Ever since I read that natural flavors used to come from beaver anal glands (castoreum), I got weirded out by seltzer water and made the switch to Spindrift.  Not sure if the food industry still uses castoreum but I'll never look at "natural flavor" on a food label that same way again.
  • @calliah So I’m not the only one craving milk!
