Membrane sweeping?

Hi,
I am currently 38 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I had my membranes swept today at my second to last prenatal appointment before my induction date. Has anyone had this done? If so, did it work?

Re: Membrane sweeping?

  • I was 41 weeks and my doctor did it and the next morning I went into labor.  Best of luck to you!

  • I had a membrane sweep with my first at 39+4 and I had him at 40+4. So, for me, it didn’t appear to work but who knows.
  • I went into labor the day after my membranes were sweeped with my first :) I was 39+2
  • The doctor believes my baby is pretty big so she did a membrane sweep at 38 weeks. I lost my mucus plug and had contractions but those stopped about 24 hours later. Had another sweep yesterday at 39 weeks. Still 1 cm dilated (no change between sweeps). I guess he’s not ready yet!
  • I have in the past and it didn’t work any of the times. Just painful for fun.

  • Update: I apparently had my membranes swept today and the dr said she swept the crap out of it but I didn’t know she’d done anything at all. It didn’t hurt and I didn’t feel it even. She said it was probably bc my baby’s head is so low so I guess it’s not always painful. Hope that helps!

  • Had mine done on Wednesday and while it was uncomfortable, I wouldn’t call it painful. Sent me into 12 hrs of prodromal labor, but it all petered out by morning.
