Marianne

Does Marianne come across as too much of a smoosh name? We’d probably go with Marianne Gladys (not the prettiest middle name but so meaningful to both my husband and I). I like it for girl #3 but not sure yet. Any impressions? Thank you in advance!

I don’t love that spelling but it doesn’t strike me as a fake smoosh name. I think Gladys is kind of pretty, and great if it’s meaningful to you both

I like it! I wouldn't consider it a smoosh name because it's been around. Wasn't there a Marianne on Gilligan's Island? I think of smoosh names as way more recent than that!

It’s not my cup of tea, but I definitely don’t think of it as a smoosh name.

I like Marianne but I view it as an older lady name. Maybe because I've only known older women with the name. I like Marion or Maren more and think they're more modern or at least "younger." But I dont hate Marianne. It actually goes with Gladys which is hard to do!! Its a combination name that's well known so people are accepting of it. If you want less combo name/less smoosh, Marion or Maren or just Mary. But Maryanne is well known and Mary technically withstands a lot of combos: Mary Ellen, Mary Elizabeth, Mary Angela, Mary Kate. At least Maryanne is one word.
