Just an FYI, the out of pocket cost for my NIPT (Panorama) is $650. Luckily my insurance covers it but thought the info might be helpful for some of you.
When you call them, they drop the price. Something about being unable to charge that full amount if you call to pay within 30 days
May I ask what these abbreviations stand for? I think I know the NT, but I'm not positive. I did scan to see if it was answered, but maybe I overlooked it.

NT- Nuchal translucency, ultrasound screen usually with blood work NIPT- non invasive prenatal test. The tests that draw the mother’s blood and looks for fetal cells within to do genetic screens CVS- chorionic villus sampling, invasive test that draws cells from the placenta and makes genetic determinations
@geminigirl16 I agree completely. Do all the testing! Get all the peace of mind! I’m doing the same thing. This time we’re doing NIPT in addition to chorionic villus sampling . The CVS is to test for CHARGE syndrome. Our first baby had CHARGE. And unfortunately, NIPT doesn’t screen for CHARGE.
I’m trying to understand your doctor’s recommendations... NIPT (non invasive prenatal testing) is a blood screen. What kind of blood test is she scheduling in addition to that?

Going to be me and say it sounded to me like it was the general NT bloodwork 🤷🏼♀️
I feel so behind, I had a blood draw at my 9+2 appointment last week and they asked me about screening for Trisomy and Downsyndrome, I have a special U/S scheduled for it in 2 weeks but I somehow didn't realize that that and NT were the same thing. I'm joining this thread now and plan to read up more on this testing and alternatives.
Thanks for sharing ladies and so sorry to the moms here who lost their babies
@PleaseSendPicklesNow I assume that it is the regular blood work that they generally do like @cmbt2 mentioned although I have no idea what that is since I’ve never done it before. My NIPT was one vial and that was it! I really wasn’t expecting her to change her recommendations with this pregnancy and may still push for the NIPT regardless of the NT results.
I am sorry about your experience with CHARGE. I am hoping that you have good results with all your tests.
I just got my results back from the NIPT. All low risk!! Such a sigh of relief!! I’ll post the sex on the appropriate thread 😉
I asked about also doing a NT Scan and she is pretty confident in the NIPT results. She gave me the weekend to decide if I want to proceed with one or not.
@elle-0409 And @galentine I got my results back in 7 days. I actually called because I didn’t want to wait all weekend. Hope you both get yours back just as quickly!
@emily1052, what did you end up deciding about the NT scan?
We decided not to schedule one, yet. We have our 12 week appointment on Thursday and will ask all my questions. However we feel pretty good with our odds from the bloodwork results. I’ll let you know if anything changes after our appointment. How are you holding up waiting on your results?
@emily1052, I'm pretty anxious. I'm obsessively checking the status of my test (as if it will switch from "processing" to "lab review" since I last checked it 5 minutes ago 🙄). The results are expected to be returned to me on Saturday, although I'm tempted to call my provider Friday to see if they have the results yet.
@galentine I felt the same exact way. I had my blood drawn on Friday and called the following Friday and my results were in. If I were you, I’d definitely be calling Friday. It’s nice that you were able to follow the processing! I didn’t get a case number so I couldn’t. Fingers crossed you get the results Friday and everything is low risk!
Hey all!! FTM here and will most likely be doing the NIPT test next week. Question-is it recommended to do NIPT prior to the NT scan? I’m getting all these tests mixed up and for the life of me can’t remember what my doctor said so much information and it’s so overwhelming! Thanks

@fit-mom2b I did my NIPT blood work last Friday and will have my NT done this Friday. I chose to do them on different days because, like you, they are not performed in the same location. Plus, I knew that I could get the NIPT done as early as 10 weeks, (though I waited until 11). Good luck!

So I had my genetic counselor appt today and after our talk I opted to do the MaterniT21 NiPT whether my insurance covered it or not (I'm 41 and I've been getting pretty nervous about that this last couple weeks). Luckily I'm 10 wks + 1 day so I just made the eligibility to be able to do it today.

After getting home I called the insurance company to see if it was covered, which it was, but I was heartened by the personal story the associate told me. She said that when she was pregnant and did her NT work up she tested positive for Trisomy 18. She was terrified of the possible choice she might have to make and ended up going ahead with the amniocentesis for diagnostic confirmation. Those results, and particularly her follow up US ended up confirming her initial test was wrong and her child was negative for that abnormality. She now has a perfectly healthy young man of 15 and was very glad to have had the further diagnostic tests and tools to help guide her decisions. It was SUCH a relief to hear a story like that at this time that I wanted to share it with you ladies. It was comforting to me to hear a testing scare gone right. I'm hoping that everyone comes back with boring negative / low probability results! But if an early diagnostic screening comes back with questionable results, don't hesitate for further testing.

I get my results, plus baby's sex, in 8 to 10 days (though the counselor said she's seen them come back in 6 or 7 sometimes) rather than the 3 weeks from now I'd be waiting for NT results, which I was originally expecting. I hope all of us get them before it causes any more agita than baby is already giving us.

I had my Panorama test done last Thursday and I’m eagerly awaiting my results. I should hear hopefully hear back before the end of the week. The wait is grueling.
All results came back low risk! I did not even realize how anxious I had been waiting for the results until I was crying tears of relief. ❤❤❤
Yay!!! I’m so happy for you and your growing family!! Now I’ll be (im)patiently waiting for you to reviel the sex 😂 even if we have to wait another 6 months.
Does anyone else's insurance require a prior authorization for the Panorama or similar blood tests? It wasn't even an option for me when I had my second son (he will be three in May) but I would really like to do the early blood test this time around. I'm not sure if I would qualify under insurance since this is my 3rd pregnancy. I don't have any known complications and I am under 35.

This is my situation with insurance, and I have yet to hear of anyone getting the approval. I pay out of pocket for it
@lmarie2009 I suspect mine will require it as it is genetic testing and they just changed their policy for that this year. But have not yet made it that far. Last time I called and asked about it they told me if my Dr deemed it medically necessary, it would be covered. Obviously every insurance is different but I think it would be difficult for your Dr to convince that in your situation.
I finally tried to talk to DH about wanting to get it done. He didn't really seem to understand why (even with the loss history). I feel like he's mostly worried about me worrying for nothing, which I do understand. I'm so torn on which way to go.
@lmarie2009 I was under 35 my last pregnancy in 2017, not high risk, and my insurance covered 100%. I talked with the NIPT company first (don’t remember which one), they gave me the billing codes, and then I called my insurance company to ask what would be covered. I was pleasantly surprised.
This time around my doctor uses a different NIPT company. They said that after the blood is drawn, the company will contact my insurance and figure out how much I owe and then email me the quote. If I don’t want to pay that amount then I can tell them I don’t want them to run the test.
Bottom line: worth a phone call to panorama and your insurance company. The billed amount to my insurance last time was something crazy like $15000.

@greenbean-2, I didn't think about calling the company for the billing codes! I will try that!
I appreciate everyone's help.
