Fit Mama Friday 3/8

How were your workouts this week?

Do you have a workout playlist or songs that pump you up when working out??

*I'll be on vacation next Friday, so if one of you lovely ladies would get this party started next Friday, I'd appreciate it!

Re: Fit Mama Friday 3/8

  • Yoga on Monday and OTF on Wednesday were both great for me this week. Yesterday, I got a long walk in. Hoping to get in a walk this weekend too.

I find myself listening to a ton of old school rap, Beyonce, and Britney while working out. My favorite OTF instructors use playlists that include pop and hip hop.

@heml great job as always! I can start the thread next Friday.

I have been down for the count with the flu again this week, but I'm checking in anyway because it motivates me to see what you ladies are up to.  I'm hoping to do just a short arm workout and stretching today, then either walk this weekend or go super easy on the Peloton.  My asthma is finally getting under control so I don't want to push it, but I need to do something.

I also love any old school rap.  One of my favorite Peloton workouts is to a Tupac vs Notorious BIG playlist.  I also have an instructor I love that does a lot of 2000s pop.

  • I've had more energy this week and have been sleeping better. Running and strength training 3x so far and hoping to get in a longer run tomorrow.

I've gotten sick of all of my music and have been listening to podcasts during my workouts. I also love old school rap - maybe I'll rediscover some of my favorites on spotify.
  • @sw1122 I've been doing podcasts during my workouts too. I usually try to find something that will make me laugh I'm sure I look a bit crazy just laughing to my self as i work out.

@mkrel sorry to hear you're still down with the flu. Give yourself a break until you're feeling better!

@heml 4 days of working out/physical activity is great! Enjoy your vacation!!

AFM, I got in two workouts this week and will hopefully make it either to the gym or for a walk with the dogs this weekend, but that will depend on the weather. I'm still recovering from my cold, so I was trying not to push it too hard this week. Hoping to get to the gym at least 3 times next week and then up to 4 again the following week.
other than podcasts I like to listen to  90s/00s pop/rock.

  • @heml @mkrel I love old school rap too! (Or booty music as a I call ). Anywhere from 1996ish-2002ish

@sw1122 have you changed anything in your running since you got pregnant?

@Avrilmai hopefully you can kick that cold this weekend

got 6 miles in last weekend. I still can’t manage to get up and run before work.  We do another 6 on Sunday

i have a variety in my playlist—booty music, pop, show tunes, Disney

is anyone one paying attention to their heart rates when working out? At book club last night there’s another girl who is due the same time I am. She mentioned that her OB told her that she cannot get her heart rate above 140. Then the other girls there were talking  about how when they were pregnant their doctors told them the same thing. My doctor said I’m fine to run but didn’t mention anything about heart rate. Should I be paying attention to this? I do watch my heart rate because it’s part of my running watch and I think the highest it’s gotten  is 156 but it usually hovers around 148.
  • @purplg8r - my pace has slowed pretty significantly (about 2 min/mi). Have you had to make any adjustments?

I’ve been monitoring my heart rate since my OB told me that my HR shouldn’t exceed 150 for longer than an hour. I run around 50-60 mins and it gets up to around 154 by the end.

I forget which of the August mamas mentioned the “talk test” a few weeks back. But apparently if you’re able to carry on a conversation, you should be fine.
  • @purplg8r my doc didn't mention HR at all. Like @sw1122 mentioned all I've been told is to monitor myself using the "talk test." The rationalization is that we all have different levels of fitness/resting HR and it is hard to put a blanket number on it.

  • My OB said “talk test” too. I’ve read the 140 HR is kind of an old school mentality and lots of studies say high intensity workouts are great for baby, as long as HR isn’t high for prolonged periods.

@purplg8r Since Orangetheory specifically monitors HR, I pay a
lot of attention to mine. I’ll let myself get up to 165ish, then I know it’s time to slow it down/take a water break.
  • @sw1122 I’ve lowered my pace by about 2 mins and started my run/walk intervals right away instead of after a few miles.

And thanks for the reassurance ladies!!
