Re: Group 2 Check-in (Aug 8-14) w/o 3/5

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug. 11/ 17 + 2

Baby is the size of a(n): Pomegranate

Upcoming Appointments: Had my 16 week last Friday, next is the anatomy scan in early April!  <3

How are you feeling?: Pretty good other than raging hormones and random aches and pains. I also started having really sharp stinging pains in my breasts last night. Apparently this is in preparation for milk production. Thanks, pregnancy!

Rants/Raves: Rant- MIL has been pestering DH about telling her DS's name! He's only telling her that it is a name in the top 100 of the SSA baby name list. She can be weirdly opinionated about things and we just don't need her (or anyone else's) opinions!

Rave- At my OB's office there are several docs that deliver and they want you to see all of them pre-delivery since any one of them could be on call during the delivery. Thus far, I had only seen my OB/GYN that I have treated with since before pregnancy. I saw another OB at my last appointment and she was super sweet! It really eased my anxiety about seeing the other docs.

Questions: None that I can think of.

GTKY—In honor of Fat Tuesday, what is your favorite food indulgence?: McDonald's shake- half Shamrock/half chocolate. Unfortunately the Shamrock is only around for a limited time!  :'(

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug. 10. 17 weeks, 3 days

Baby is the size of a(n):

Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan in two weeks!

How are you feeling?: Getting better...

Rants/Raves: Excited to know the sex of the baby in two weeks. I am confident we have a girl name picked out, but need help with boy names.

Questions: Why are boy names so hard to pick???

GTKY—In honor of Fat Tuesday, what is your favorite food indulgence?: Ice cream

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug. 16th (but planning either 8/9 or 8/14 c-section) / 16+4
Baby is the size of a(n): soda can - though weighs half as much - per TB
Upcoming Appointments: 20 wk appt on the 29th, I guess just for the pee and any blood draws (?) and they'll schedule my MFM appt for the anatomy scan at some point the next week
How are you feeling?: Good, just random slides back into first trimester symptoms: progesterone-based GI issues, random (minor) headaches, random tiredness with sore eyes (and I've even moved to 100% glasses), sometimes some weird uterine-stretching feelings.
Rants/Raves: Rant: Still *really* mad about a person getting a promotion, making them my indirect boss. They are - by far - the person I have liked least during my whole career - in any job, ever. It took me almost a decade to get the "dream job" that I'm currently in and this has me considering looking for another job. So, not happy and hugely pessimistic. Rave: I'm still down like 10 lbs (I lose weight in the first trimester, which I then gain back in the 2nd), so even though my belly's filled in, it's not uncomfortable ... yet.
    Questions:
GTKY—In honor of Fat Tuesday, what is your favorite food indulgence?: Every year for Lent, I give up "that thing," but then I never pick it back up again so I don't know if I have a true "indulgence." I do, however, have a strange obsession with meatloaf, but I don't know if you'd call that even remotely indulgent  :D And tomorrow *is* meatloaf day at the cafeteria on campus *squeeeee*

  • @lotus_2008 - I totally get it about the names, it really is no one else's business but yours ... and people take it WAY too seriously for it not being their child.

@elizabeth_1985 - I hate to break it to ya, but that probably means you're having a boy! LOL. Both times, we were 100% in agreement with boys names and ... this will be our second girl. So we're currently in debate status right now. Sigh. It's exciting to think about and it's sooooo close!!

  • @MamaK225 Exactly! IDK why people feel so entitled to knowing the name.

I'll ask people if they've decided on a name and maybe offer joke suggestions depending on how well I know them. I'd never go that next step and ask what it is.

  • @Lotus_2008 - Same! The same with family planning choices. I never ask "when are you going to have children/have another/etc" ... because you never know. Also, it's none of my damn business! Even close friends. If they offer a tidbit, I'll have the conversation, but all those things are very personal. I think it's silly others feel this entitlement to know these things.

  • @MamaK225 We have a whole list of girl names we like- Rose, Jane, Judith, Louise, Alice. You can steal one of mine if you can think of some boy names along that theme of girl names. 😀
  • @elizabeth_1985 - How beautiful! My grandmother's name is Alice (she *hates* it and goes by her middle name, Elaine), but I think it's so pretty :) Let's see ... there's Sam, Jack, Edward, Ben/Benjamin, Charles, Adam, Franklin, and Michael. Your tastes are very similar to mine.

We have a Charlotte Leigh (call her Charlie) and I'm gunning hard for Savannah Marguerite (call her Sam), but DH is concerned that they would both be "city" names and I told him he can shove it because - at most - they'll live together for 15 years (DD1 will have just turned 3 when DD2 arrives) and neither would go solely by their first names anyway. Marguerite (and Margaret) feature prominently in my family and I wanted to name DD1 that and call her Maggie, but that got vetoed and I'm not budging on it for DD2's middle name. He's really a fan of Freya, which I do like, but if he wants to poo-poo about treating the names like a bundle, then it doesn't go with Charlotte. I also like Selene - but it gets confused with Celine at every mention and I am not a fan of that. Other options are Sloane, Alexandra, Victoria, and Lilith.

I don't know if you've heard about the BabyName app; it's basically Tinder for baby names that you can link with your spouse. That way, you can peruse at your leisure and it'll tell you about your name matches. I'm a loyal Android user and DH is Apple, so I know they're available on both of those platforms.

  • @elizabeth_1985 Not sure if you've tried this, but babynames.com will suggest some boy names to go with your girl names.
I actually had a harder time coming up with girls names that I liked. Thankfully it doesn't matter at this point!  :D

  • @MamaK225 I'm a fan of Margaret. If we have a girl, Rose Margaret is a big possibility.

My husband likes Edward. But I work with someone we call "Lazy Ed" which kind of ruins it for me.
  • @elizabeth_1985 - LOL @ Lazy Ed. You could always go with Edwin? I know it still condenses to "Ed," but ... kind of differently ...? :)

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/12, 17 + 1

Baby is the size of a(n): pomegranate

Upcoming Appointment: Just had my first official visit with the midwife at the birthing center, a/s up next! Should be scheduled soon!

How are you feeling?: Starting to improve. I’m still so drained and feel so useless after work and on the weekends  I just want to clean my house but I have 0 energy to do it

Rants/Raves: Rant...still have a close relationship with morning sickness, like seriously? This part was supposed to be done by now, grrr... Rave...I am absolutely thrilled with the birthing center we’ve chosen! They have blown me away and I’m so happy I chose them!

Questions: Any suggestions for how you get all the boring stuff done when you feel so drained? I hardly ever cook, and that used to be an every day thing for me. And I don’t remember when the last time was I mopped my floors. I just don’t have it in me! How do you get it all done?

GTKY—In honor of Fat Tuesday, what is your favorite food indulgence?: Oy...at the risk of getting burned at the stake...sushi! But nothing with raw fish and from a very trusted restaurant! And I’ve cleared it with my providers!

No shame whatsoever! I've had California rolls a couple times during this pregnancy!

  • Oh yay! I’m so glad to hear that. I was feeling some real guilt but it’s also been the one thing I can count on not making me sick later too!
  • @emqbee - As long as the place has good quality ingredients and follows food-handling guidelines, you're safe. Limit quantity and frequency, but here and there is just fine. In fact, recent studies have been published, urging more women to eat more seafood (yes, even sushi!) during pregnancy since so many have sworn it off because of concerns ... but it's very healthy and healthful for the growing baby(ies)!
