Monday B*fest, 2/4

Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!

Re: Monday B*fest, 2/4

  • Had a really rough nausea night last night, which sucked.

Also have 2/3 tenants waiting to pay rent to the last second. Sigh. Come on guys, the first comes every month

  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 I feel you. I have to speak to a board of selectmen/women tonight and I just don't want to. It's 40 minutes from my house and at 7pm. Plus I I am the awkward fluffy stage where I don't look pregnant, but nothing fits. Yay for attempting to look professional with nothing to wear.
  • @Amdogger82 Ditto on nothing to wear. I generally don’t have dress too nice, but this meeting and another one on Thursday are in our main administrative building and it’s super fancy. I should be wearing a suit or at least a blazer, but the room gets super hot and I’ll die in that many clothes. Plus I’m trying not to spend a fortune on maternity clothes since I’m positive this is the last kid.

    Tired AF today.
  • DD2 has strep throat.  I could write a lot about this, but I'll just summarize in one word: Crap.

  • @WinchesterGirl I applaud you managing 3 tenants. We rented out our condo for a few years and I couldn't wait to get it sold and not have to deal with rent and tenants anymore!

I too will need more work clothes soon so we'll see how long I can last in my current pair of maternity work pants before I need more bottoms and tops.

I also got pulled into an all day training today that I didn't know I was supposed to attend. And obviously I'm paying attention since I'm writing on the Bump right now :D I've also hit the stage where when I sneeze, there's a 50% chance I pee a little.

  • I'm so sorry @agpandme. His health issues do not negate your difficulty in dealing with him! Is there a plan in place to get him into a care facility?
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • @WinchesterGirl YES!  The facility said it will take a while to find him a place so we are setting up a trailer on our property for him to stay in until then.  He will at least be out from under my roof.
  • Went on a 1.5 mile walk today, trying to be healthy and all...and ended up with chaffed thighs from my dress pants. I think the seam is sitting wrong now that I'm wearing them a bit lower than designed due to my belly because I've walked in these pants a lot over the last year and never had a problem. Never. But OUCH!

Oh, and I had to wake up and go to work today. That was also painful.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

Omg, my 2-year-old. A couple weeks ago she went on a nap strike. She JUST turned 2, and clearly still needs a nap. I thought we got over it but nooooo...it started up again yesterday. She has become “The Girl Who Cried Poop.” She says “poop, poop, poop” because she knows we’ll come running to change her diaper. And 95% of the time...no poop. So now I ignore her poop cries, and then feel all guilty wondering if she really does have a poopy diaper!

  • Not really bitching but a frustrated position I am in.  I need a better job and have been job hunting since before I was pregnant.  Now I nearly 16 weeks along and the ideal job is calling me for an interview. I REALLY want this job. It would be a great step up for our family, and a perfect opportunity. However, it is does require vehicle operation.  I am praying and hoping that this does not hinder my ability to obtain this position.  I would like to be completely honest with them and tell them upfront. I know I am not legally required to and I know its illegal to use pregnancy as a reason to deny employment.  The idea of trying to deceive them doesn't sit well with me but I am also scared to be honest.
  • I agree with @lilmamabebe3 !! I know it's hard - I was interviewing while pregnant.  I did not disclose until the offer phase

  • @lilmamabebe3 Thank you for all of that! It does make a lot of sense and I can see myself explaining to them that I wanted to be hired based upon my qualifications and not cloud their decision with the pregnancy.   I just told my sister I think it would be best if I do not mention it during the initial interview but disclose it when offered the position.  I do actually feel a lot better and more hopeful now!
  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 @MollyH1987 I’m with you ladies struggling with work clothes to wear. I’m wearing maternity workout leggings under my dress today (that’s def on the top right side in the boobage area) because it’s cold and I haven’t bought a ton. I finally broke down and ordered stitch fix maternity today and it’ll be here on the 16th

Good luck!! I am staying in my current role now (I was offered a position without interviewing from a previous boss today, but I declined), but I did take a new role at 15 weeks pregnant with my second and they were great! You got this!! Fingers crossed, and all the good luck!
  • @aecm uggg I remember the twins nap strike... some of those afternoons I nearly lost my mind... that being said it was not permanent. It went on and off for 2-3 months and then they were back to napping pretty regularly. They occasionally have days they don't want to nap now but Mom NEEDS those naps! I am not looking forward to the day they give them up all together.

@agpandme I did not tell my current job I was pregnant when interviewing... Actually I didn't say anything until I started...

  • I just found out that one of my husband's Aunt's is a plague enthusiast who didn't vaccinate any of her 4 children.
They are all adults now (early 20s), but it seems none are interested in getting vaccinated.

As I'm sure most of us have heard,  Thanks to all the plague enthusiasts in North America, measles has made a come back. We've had 2 confirmed cases in our city.

Which means baby and I will not be attending any family functions. Which sucks. We have to talk to our OB about possible dangers of exposure while pregnant to know if I have to start avoiding them immediately, or just once baby is born.

I'm pissed that baby and I will be the ones punished and miss out on Christmas and other family functions, just because some people are stupid.
I can't believe our family is some of the stupid. I  had no idea. So much shame...

@chillycanadian That’s so stressful!  Do you usually enjoy those family gatherings?

We told ILs the sex of the baby this weekend. BIL&SIL (also pregnant) were very excited, as was FIL. MIL looked like a deer in headlights & told BIL that they still had the chance to have a girl. When BIL&SIL said they wanted a boy bc we were having one, she told them not to say that bc she wants a girl. When I said people, including aunts, etc, will need a tdap+flu shot if they want to hold baby, she responded, “Does that mean me, too?”
  • @jrm_14 yes! I love family, and get togethers and holidays. Even though it's a big family and can be overwhelming haha. They are all lovely people and I love spending time with them. So it's super disappointing.

*Facepalm* how is it that some people think they are special exceptions?! Also, kind of unfair of her to say they can't want a boy because she wants a girl....does that mean she will be upset and love a boy less? My hormonal ass would probably end up crying about that
  • It’s 1:30am I woke up to pee and can’t go back to sleep. DH is snoring so loudly I came into my DS room to get some quiet, however, there’s a beeping sound on and off I can’t find.
I cannot stand MIL, she stays with us because she does not drive and during the week she watches LO. She gets paid to watch LO but does not respect our wishes. It’s a weekly argument because DH will not talk to his mother about it. I work for the school district so I look forward to every single break we have. She’s a nice lady but thinks raising 4 kids makes her all knowing. LO is starting daycare in September thankfully!
I haven’t been able to eat much most things make me nauseas and I think it’s affecting my sleep so cranky all the time this pregnancy 😢
  • @chillycanadian, ugh people are the worst. My cousins don’t vaccinate their daughter and it’s so irritating. I already told my parents they can’t invite them when we visit for Christmas. I didn’t even think about her attending the shower. I did get my MMR boosters 3 years ago because I like to make sure all my vaccines are up to date so hopefully that covers me.

  • @chillycanadian I’m sorry that’s so frustrating. People argue that they have the right to not vaccinate their children based on beliefs or religion. Fine, but your kid is not allowed to attend school, or be a part of society, in my opinion. I just don’t understand it
  • @Allycat11 holy day batman! wow.... I'm sorry you had to deal with all of that.
@chillycanadian ugg that is super frustrating. Though I like the term "plague enthusiast"

  • @jrm_14 my mom said something similar about her grandchildren. She said she doesn't "click" with the boys, girls are so much more fun. I'm like "You are grandma, you just have a be grandma and love them all equally even if you think boys are icky".
  • The vaccine thing is odd to me.  If your child is vaccinated, why would unvaccinated people matter? Your child has the vaccines, so in theory they will be okay, right?.  Personally I'm not a "plague enthusiast" (LOVE this term :D) with people but I do practice minimal vaccinations with my animals. We do titer tests instead.  The different opinions are interesting to me.
  • @agpandme Yes, like @aecm it's the spacing of the doses.  You can ask my friend about her daughter who got chicken pox before she was able to receive the second round of the vaccine.  I think some take as many as four rounds/boosters if I remember correctly.

  • @jrm_14 When I was 21, my boyfriend had whooping cough because his vaccine had worn off.  I echo what you said about it being terrifying and that I could never imagine a baby coughing that hard.  I haven't kept up with him but I bet after that he was super pro-vaccine.

  • @chillycanadian choosing not to vaccinate is such a privileged choice, and I'm so sorry that you'll be left out in an effort to protect yourself and your baby. I just read an article about an 18 year old in Ohio who was not vaccinated as a child and has since done research on vaccines and is choosing to get fully vaccinated, even though his parents don't agree with this choice. So there is hope.

@AKuzReve I'm so sorry! I know it's hard not to be stressed about that, especially when pregnant. When I was pregnant with my first I was around someone who had just been diagnosed with shingles and she chose to come around to a work event anyway. Even though I had chicken pox AND pediatric shingles as a child, it still freaked me out. All was okay in the end!

@sw1122 Yes! Your kid, your "choice," but your choice should not be allowed to hurt someone else.

@agpandme Unvaccinated people aren't the concern for the vaccinated population, they are the concern for those who are unable to get vaccinated and are more susceptible to disease: people who are immunocompromised, babies who are too young to receive vaccines (MMR vaccine isn't given until 12 months of age), cancer patients, asthmatics, people who have allergies to certain ingredients in vaccines (like people with an egg allergy can't get the flu shot because it contains an egg preservative), etc. Herd immunity is only effective when somewhere between 83 and 94 percent of the community is immune. Ultimately the pro-vaccine argument is about the responsibility of members of a society to do their part to protect those who are unable to protect themselves from preventable illnesses.

Thank you for all the thoughtful answers!  It is quite interesting how Measles was essentially eradicated but is now making a steady "comeback" since 2010 and the devastation that it has brought upon early populations.  Yes the MMR vaccine CAN be given at 6 months but generally they need an extra dose when it is given early as the efficacy is lessened due to the influence of the mothers immune system.  Fascinating!

If anyone is interested to learn more about diseases, there is a great podcast called "This Podcast Will Kill You".  Very entertaining and informative.  Although it sounds like many of you already know enough to get by :)

My interview went well. I suppose I will know soon if they offer me the position.  It would require a 1.5 hour commute for 6-8 weeks of training which I do not look forward too but it will be worth it when I'm working in my own town.
